23. Honourable Mention: I, by the power vested on me by this thread, unanimously give this category to THESUPERNERD. Whoever does not accept should go and report to Buhari. tongue

Any other categories I'm missing?

PS: Apologies the get-together could not happen. I am out of the country.

I tender my unreserved apologies if your name is not here. Let's have some fun.

Most Controversial...without doubt oo Forgiveness, he can just type something that will make you shout 'what!'

Most Interactive....without doubt over the entire year has to be TheSuperNerd, I am not sure he left any of his mentions unattended to, and he had the highest number of comments too.

Most intelligent poster.... Easily Mujtahida, not just about sports but the way he combines sports with real life education is just top notch, I like reading his comments, one advice sha don't be too optimistic, I always tell you that.

Most resourcesful....Tbaba and Joebie, nothing else.

Most respectful..... I would give it to Tbaba and Icon4s, not sure they've had any dint on their image at all.

Most consistent.... Over the course of the year, I am not sure anyone deserves this at all so blank.

Most positive.... Ah them plenty ooo, Mujtahida, Icon4s, Tbaba1234, Humility, Kog45 abeg them too plenty.

Best sense of humour.... Goldfish grin

Most critical.... Goldfish and Komekn to a lesser extent

Nicest poster.... Tbaba1234, he is always very very diplomatic.

Most influential....has to be Komekn and Safarigirl. Their comments will always turn your head, sometimes they may be negative(well most times for Komekn) but the fact is that so long as their comments leads to a reaction from a lot of people, then they are influential for me.

The next two categories, we already know them na. Komekn for foreign and Bascon for local, finish.

People's favourite has to be Icon4s

Most Sentimental has to be Humility without doubt, and Safarigirl too.

Most impressive thread newbie,,,,Mujtahida. He has barely been here for 3months and he has already won the most intelligent poster award, that is nothing short of impressive.

Die hard SE fan... Eh no comment.

Best friends..... Forgiveness and Icon4s grin grin grin

Most outstanding poster and best poster are the same for me, and I will give it to Tbaba1234 for his top top diplomatic approach to matters.

Honourable mentions: them plenty o

INTERVIEW – Ogu: Why I Believe Super Eagles Will Go Far At Russia 2018 World Cup

Completesportsnigeria.com’s JOHNNY EDWARD gets Super Eagles and Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder, John Ogu talking, about his stint so far with the World Cup bound Gernot Rohr’s team.

# You were an unused substitute in the Super Eagles’ first five games of the World Cup qualifying campaign, but finally got a chance to play in the dead-rubber clash against Algeria which ended 1-1. What went through your mind during those period?

To be honest, nothing went through my mind during those period. I was there trying to stay prepared to give my best whenever the chance comes. I felt like that at some point, but the joy is that everyone was doing well and we were winning games. I’m happy that at the end of it all we qualified and I got a chance to play against Algeria. As a team, we played better. We were in control and coming out with a 1-1 draw was great. We were just out to do the country proud and I’m glad that it turned out well.

# Did you lose faith in the system, especially with a self belief that you possess the quality to start games as well?

Hmmm no. There wasn’t a time I lost faith in the system because of the qualitiies of players starting the games. Also my relationship with the manager gave me more confidence before I got my chance which was very key. I was just excited to be called up to the team and the fact that we qualified for the World Cup in Russia seamlessly. We achieved qualification without struggling a bit unlike in the past when we had so many difficulties. So for me, that was something to cheer about, rather than sulk on the bench.

# The current Super Eagles managed to stay unbeaten during the World Cup qualifying campaign. Just how good is this team judging from how you all played against Argentina, in which you were a beast in the midfield?

The win against Argentina says a lot about the Eagles and we won’t rest on our oars going into the World Cup. We have been together and we keep reminding ourselves we are here for a reason. Kudos to the coaches, the NFF and the fans who supported us all the way.
First of all, the unity in the team has been key as we reach out for one another. Fighting for ourselves made us stronger too. The Super Eagles qualifying for Russia 2018 without losing was no fluke, and we showed that in the friendly against Argentina despite the fact that we were without five key players and the Argentine team paraded top quality players as well, regardless of Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuian and Mauro Icardi missing the game.

# You have played in different formations at club level. How difficult or easy was it playing in a 3-5-2 formation with the Super Eagles against Argentina?

It wasn’t difficult playing in the 3-5-2 formation, but the fact that the Super Eagles had one training session saw the team struggle in the first half. But we picked up in the second half and showed the class we were made off. Scoring four goals against an Argentine star-studded side isn’t a fluke at all. We worked it out with our bond.

# Would you prefer the Super Eagles maintain this 3-5-2 formation when the missing players return, or rivert to the old 4-2-3-1?

That is for the manager to decide. I’m just in the team to carry out his match-day plan.

# Nigeria has faced Argentina more than any other team at the World Cup. Are you comfortable facing the La Albiceleste again in Russia, with the likes of Lionel Messi and Mauro Icardi in the squad?

There are no easy teams all the teams that have qualified will be tough. We have to prepare for a game as it comes. It’s the World Cup and not a friendly, so other factors will come to play. It’s going to be Nigeria vs Argentina and not Lionel Messi vs Nigeria. As a team, we have the quality to break them down again even with the inclusion of Messi. They have had it smooth in the past, but it’s time to end that jinx against Argentina in Russia.

# How far do you think the Super Eagles can go in Russia?

It’s not going to be easy. We will be out there to win games and play quality football. We have the talent and quality to go far.

# Watching the World Cup as a growing kid, tell us your best memory as a fan?

Watching the world Cup as a fan was the game involving Nigeria and Spain in France 1998. We won 3-2, I remember the goal Sunday Oliseh scored won us the game. That team showed determination and great strength which is what we are also imbibing. We will go far in Russia.

After watching the Algeria vs Nigeria dead-rubber tie and the friendly against Argentina so many times nobody can convince me Onazi is a better option than Ogu in that defensive midfield. I paid close attention specifically to Ogu, Iwobi and Ekong just to better understand their strength and weaknesses but I will focus on Ogu for the sake of this post. In positioning Ogu is better than Onazi of today, he knows how to cover the gaps that could open penetration from opponents. In tackles, Ogu is more cleaner and hardly draws any caution. He knows when to drift and when not to, his ball control and short swift passes are beauty to behold something Onazi has no knowledge of. To add to these great qualities Ogu can play both defensive and central midfield.

Onazi's place in the starting eleven is not concrete anymore and if I were to make the selection as it stands now Onazi will have to start from the bench.

If I remember correctly , it was baba Icons that said that most cadet players dont end up becoming what was anticipated of them and rightly so this has manifested and kept going. In the case of Omeruo, this guy was like a rock and great ball player during the U20 world cup that had Ajagun,Musa,Azeez, Kayode and co in the team and though we have finally found Uche Okechukwu replacement but lo and behold I watch Omeruo depreciated and was playing like grandpa. I think he is picking up his pieces and hopefully he makes the team.

Omeruo was not a starter during that U20, there were two northern guys playing the defence then. Infact Omeruo didnt play a single minute of that tournament

you still missed the point. Is he just going to Madrid because he wants to be a madrid player? Or he wants to be a starter? Do you think he will be a starter in Real Madrid?

Even before the SA loss I've opined on his inclusion ahead of Onazi (this after watching him play severally at club level) but I was called Onazi hater by his supporters grin.
Ogu utilises his weakness to his own advantage (not pacey). The reason he sits deep to protect the defenders and allow Ndidi with pace to surge forward and help in the attack.
Ogu sits comfortably as a DM or CM. The goal against Algeria (though inconsequential) was from a CM position and we'll struck. His passes lovely and short.
My joy in this Rohrs' team is that every department he's trying to get replacements and not substitute though and ability of them to play a false 9 system (against Argentina). Iwobi and Iheanacho played as AM.

Madrid already has a standard DMF, two if you count Llronte/Kovacic. If they buy Ndidi it will be for who? The assistant captain of the brazillian national team(Casemiro)? If he going to bench Case? James had a vacant position to fill, Ozil already left and Di Maria was posting highly inconsistent results, but Case's case is way way different

just watched arsenal vs WBA highlights...
iwobi really impressed wit his long range shots.....just unlucky not to get a goal from one of his attempt

and for those arsenal fans always picking on him...their frustration I understand...being that the lad opt for Nigeria instead of the 3 lions....they've had no peace within....

so you guys wanna play two non pacey midfielders (mikel and ogu) in same match....?

please....ogu can't start same match when we have mikel....in the field...

onazi work rate is something of value...ogu i understand is a good addition but can't replace onazi in that team so easily...

as regard good passes onazi makes good passes too...his assist lead to the 4th goal against Cameroon..

The most succesful tackles in the EPL, the only dmf that goes in for a tackle and comes out without a booking. That clinical stat would surely attract them cos Case and Kova don't come that close. Mind you he tops the EPL by these stats. But he's still a work in progress.

not that I care much for either of Onazi or Ogu, but we have seen Ogu and Mikel start a match against top opposition and it went fine, so, why can't they both be on the field together?

the Argentina squad we played against will be very different from the one we will be playing come June this year....likewise the change in the Nigeria side....

I am not against both playing in same match...but it will do better we have two fast Midfieders to compliment mikel lack of pace in the middle......

sometimes, slow and steady is a far wiser approach than fast and reckless.

I say the opposition should determine who plays between Onazi and Ogu....eg, I would start Onazi against Iceland

Didn't Mikel and Ogu play together against Argentina? Was the MF slow? Didn't you notice Ndidi in the opponents final third? That's what Ogu provides you.
Yes Onazi has good work rate but that is his own disadvantage as most times he's off positioned and Ndidi too might have gone to try his luck upfront.
