There is another form you can fill. All you have to do is convince them that you can't reach your hubby to go notarize the form.
see the attached DS-5525: Statement of Exigent/Special Family Circumstances - For Issuance of a Passport to a Minor Under Age 16

Congratulations on the arrival of your princess which by the way is my mother's birthday mate.
Please I will want you to keep the house updated on how you sorted the notary issue out because i dont see my DH having the time to go to Abuja or Lagos embassy from PH for notary.

God bless you.

Also anyone with info on flight promo please share

There is a form for such situation it is attached
Xclusivemaama:

This new year will bring us uncommon testimonies.
I had my princess on the 12th of Dec. 2017. I was so misinformed that I delayed the process in getting her international pas

I got there in time for the appointment and gave all the documents needed only to be told that the notary our DH sends to us is no longer valid as DH has to go to the US embassy in Nigeria to get the notary or be present at the US passport agency.

Apparently, this is a new rule that started yesterday 1 JAN., 2018. DH needs appointment date to get this notary and this is another delay for me as I need to get back to Nigeria soonest. Please, is this the same in your state. The social security is not needed when obtaining the international passport. Let's share this and talk about it.

I just got a mail from the US passport office too now...Same notarization problem...My hubby is in Ph and im scheduled to leave US next week Thursday...
How do i fix this quickly? Have you done anything bout urs? U guys shud help me o

Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by chibertha(f): 12:12pm On Jan 04, 2018
To the best of my knowledge It is valid for 90 day except it has changed.
I stand to be corrected

ladeonas:

i didnot date the notary form DH signed. i know the form is valid for just 30days. i am also not going to downtown dallas, would just apply from the closest postal service to me , so they would deliver at my location.

thank God the sun is out today Dallas is @ 7C

If you ask me I would say use the closed America embassy or consulate
Mamatukwas:
Hi Everyone. Pls with this new Notary development for absent DH's, can anyone share how they were able to handle for hubbys resident in England? Did they have to travel to the American embassy there or it's something that can be handled via post or email? Thank you.

Eg if someone is due for late April can DH schedule the embassy visit in March so the person can travel with the notary or is it after birth that the DH can go to sort out the thg in Abj or Lag embassies?
Secondly what documents does he need when going to d embassy
Pls help enlighten confused peeps like me

Thanks mamaron and jullzz for your response. Am so grateful. I Will stay At The general area at Heathrow.

My visa is expiring in February 29 and I intend to travel January 30th for my missionary journey. I do not plan to renew my visa until after delivery when I return back to Nigeria. Kindly advice as i am of the view that I do not have to renew my visa now since my visa would still be valid as at the date of entry into US in January 30

Hi beautyuche, compliments of the season. the only way your hubby will avoid going to the embassy is if he’s present when you are applying for the passport in the US or in Nigeria ie you return with Nigerian Passport otherwise he has to go to the embassy to get the notary.

Hello, I’m not sure they’ll give notary before child is born. You can get appointment date 2 weeks after your EDD.

Either way is their choice, from my little experience, since he's obviously going to join soon after she gives birth, its better they apply together and boost madams moral/support been her first time and also it will save him the stress of having to come for his own interview again.
In fact for me booking together will be a better option as he plans to stay back for work/otherwise, this might give the VO the impression that ohh he has ties to his home country and would not run away.

Please can you help me with the web site of the travel fare aggregator you were registered to.

DonDraper:

You asked for it so here it is. I hope after eating all that rice and chicken you still have energy to read my long post. grin On a lighter note, it may help speed up your digestion wink

Greetings everyone, firstly I would like to appreciate all the contributors on this forum. Your inputs have been invaluable to me resulting to a seamless missionary journey. It is heartwarming to read posts about members getting visas after the period of visa denials. To those who got theirs I say congratulations and to those who didn’t, work on the feedbacks received and reapply. I look forward to good tidings in 2018. Amen.

This post is to give back to the community I have learnt so much from. It would also be my pleasure to share some tips I got from members offline. Truly, CBPs and VOs read this thread so I would use the opportunity to lend my voice to the discussions on discounts and packages for international self-paying patients. Kindly bear with me if this post is too long, although, I’ve divided it into 3 parts (Pre-trip, Pre-LO Arrival, and The Return Home) to help with that.

PRE-TRIP
Online reviews proved useful in choosing a hospital and an associated OB-GYN among the usual suspects around Houston: WHMC, Oakbend, HNWMC, Methodist Sugarland, Memorial, and Doctores Para Ti etc. Moreover, the right decisions are made when you invest time in reviewing pros and cons of options available to you. I highly recommend this habit. So, look out for my review on the hospital and OB-GYN in subsequent posts. Furthermore, I ensured that I read all the recent POE experiences posted on this thread especially those related to Houston IAH – our POE. In addition, I sent the unnecessary Change of Intent mail and got the usual response. With these knowledge, I armed myself with the advised burden of proof listed below:

1. About $9k cash
2. Return ticket
3. Bank account statements: Naira and Dollar accounts
4. Dollar Debit card
5. Employment letter
6. Correspondence with Houston North-West Medical Centre’s (HNWMC) Financial Counsellor.
7. Correspondence with Dr Xydas’ Office Manager
8. Appointment letter from Dr Xydas’ OM stating total bill
9. Details of HNWMC package for self-pay patients (called Miracle Moments)
10. Marriage certificate
11. Airbnb receipt stating house address in Houston
12. Change of Intent correspondence

I was at 34 weeks when I left Naija with DH aboard an Air France (AF) flight. In-flight service was just ok; the flight crew could have done better by truly giving special treatment to pregnant women as stated on their website. Notwithstanding, the layover was short and we benefited from the Flying Blue Programme so overall the trip was great. While booking my flight I didn’t request for a wheelchair because I am Wonder Woman. LOL. But seriously, I didn’t feel I needed it besides walking is good for you and the baby. Consequently, yours truly strolled the distance from boarding gate to CBP. At Houston IAH, the length of the queues was fair, hence within minutes of joining the queue, it was our turn with CBP. See transcript below (bear in mind encounter was less than 3 minutes):

CBP: Hello
DH: Hi
CBP: Can I have your passports, please?
DH: (Hands over our passports)
CBP: What are you here for? (as he tries to locate DH’s visa page)
DH: We are here for vacation and to give birth to our baby.
CBP: Oh cool! Congratulations! How much do you have with you?
DH: About $9k
CBP: Any food stuffs?... Oh I see you declared some.
DH: Yes, Nigerian food stuffs.
CBP: Please place your fingers on the machine (takes our biometrics and stamps us in for 6 months and directs us to luggage area) Enjoy your stay and all the best.
Me: (Chuckling and wishing him well as DH picks up our passports)

With pleasure, I checked to confirm the stamp so what happen to Okon won’t repeat itself. LOL. I remember someone posted here that CBP forgot to stamp her PP after their encounter therefore I had to double check. Anyway, after picking up our bags, an officer stopped us on our way out and directed us to Agric. At Agric, chicken noodles, chicken flavour Knorr (bird flu issue), tubers of yam (pests transfer issue), and one pepper soup spice (can’t remember the local name) were seized. Fortunately, others scaled through - ground egusi, beans, other pepper soup spices, Knorr, ground pepper, poundo, semo, garri, and ground crayfish. At the airport back home, we got a thumbs up from Nigerian Customs and Immigrations during the baggage search because we used Ziplocs to package food items neatly….. *badt gal*

PRE-TRIP TIPS
1. Register on a travel fare aggregator website for price alerts on your travel dates to your destination of choice. When the price is at or below your budget, hurry up and book. Confirm the airline baggage policy of the cabin and for infants to enable proper planning. What is applicable to Delta Air Lines may not be to Qatar Airways. We fell into that trap. Watch out for Part 3 (The Return Home) of my story.
2. Proximity to the hospital and OB-GYN’s office (for the regular ante-natal and post-natal visits) is very important. It will save you a lot on transportation, time and stress. I’d advise that you stay in an apartment close to these places. If you plan to stay with relatives/friends who reside far, ensure you do your Cost Vs Benefit analysis before making the decision.
3. You may already know this, nevertheless, I’ll drop it here. Travel light so you can have space and weight allowance should you decide to shop. Additionally, you can travel with an XL foldable duffel bag (without rollers) that weigh almost nothing instead of carrying those weighty luggage despite being empty. Bear in mind that most airlines kick against matted woven bags aka Ghana must go.
4. Last but not the least, is the burden of proof. Ensure you have it ready and neatly arranged for your POE. Having it gives you the confidence to face any form of interrogation if the need arises.

MEANINGS OF ABBREVIATIONS FOR PART 6 NEWBIES
FTM – First Time Moms
PP - Passport
LO – Little One
VO – Visa Officer
OB-GYN – Obstetrician-Gynecologist
IAH – Houston George Bush Int’l Airport
CBP – Customs and Border Protection Officer
DS/DD/DH/DW – Dear Son/Daughter/Husband/Wife
MIL/SIL/BIL/FIL – Mother/Sister/Brother/Father In-law

My POE transcript

Collected my passport from DHL 3 working days after interview....was nervous about this, as @Fyorgyn's took longer.....previous visa cancelled without prejudice and new one issued.

Travelled at 32 weeks plus with, Virgin Atlantic via London. Transit, just 3 hours....POE: New York City, JFK.

Was directed to the automated machines. Scanned my visa as directed....guess machine read that it was a B1/B2 visa...machine asked if this visit was B1 business or B2 tourist/medical..... I chose B2....ticked yes that I have food. Used machine to scan finger print and to take a photo.....print out from machine had a circle....joined the queue. Had my interview folder in my hand luggage...ready for any questions.

CBP (very cheerful young lady): hello
Me: hello...handed over my passport
CBP: looked at print out...stamped my passport.....asked if I had any food.
Me: yes and gave her a list that was already written out of the food items I had.
CBP: are any of these fresh?
Me: no
CBP: thanks....hands me back my passport
Me: thanks very much....(with small smile...so tired.....was stamped in for 6 months).

Picked up luggage...a good samaritan helped me get them off the conveyor belt and placed them on the trolley... luggage was not checked....wheeled my load to the ladies; (sorry too much info) used it and walked out of the bagage area to meet my sibling.

Food wise I declared garri, elubo (yam flour), semo, poundo yam, ground egusi (melon seeds), dried fish, ground pepper... Nothing was seized or checked or scanned...at least to my knowledge.

It was after i left her that it occurred to me that she didn't ask what I was in the U.S. for whether holiday or for baby; I choose to assume my efiko interview details are in their system already.

Hospital has matched me with an OBGYN...i choose 2 doctors based on their profiles on the hospital websites and healthgrades reviews....and asked them to book whoever is available... first appointment is in a few days...hospital communication was by email...a few other hospitals said I needed to call or fax....difficult to document information from a phone call...and who still uses fax in this day and age...

Birth and passport story to follow, DV. Patiently waiting for LO to arrive and missing home already......its freezing!!!!.....

Thankful is my middle name!
hi dear.. im guessing you're giving birth in NYC. please which hosp are you using. thank you

happy new year to you all. Please i need help, i was planning to go for US Tourism visa application interview last year but was changed to this year January, fortunately pregnancy came in and its now very obvious. please what do i do because i don't have any obs/gyn doctor there that can help me out even if they ask or better still if anybody can help me with any doctor's contact even though it wasn't part of my initial plan. The place am going is New York, Park South Hotel. Thanks.

Are you saying that you originally applied for a tourism visa and decided to use it for birthing now? If that's the case, you have plenty work o. Since this is a do it yourself forum,I'll advice you to get a jotter and start reading, taking notes and making calls. Come clean at the interview by telling them your original intention,go prepared with Dr&hospital correspondence, budget sheet, bank statement to cover cost etc.
Worse case scenario, you can go the Elapse route and pay dresparatti and get correspondence from them since you don't have much time left.
Good Luck!

I must commend you for your support, because if you had discouraged her after the 2nd refusal, she would have given up,you were her main source of encouragement.Your story shows that determination and perseverance pays.
