terzurum5: The problem of the Nigeria league is not independent of the many developmental issues affecting Nigeria. They are not only related but are part and parcel of each other. You can build the most beautiful stadiums and have great officiating but the standards of football will still be poor because the players and the football community are part of the poor masses suffering from the ineptitude of our leaders. For Nigeria to have a decent league that will have people coming out to watch in big numbers we must fix our infrastructures viz a viz electricity, roads , transportation ,security and all the basic amenities and social services. For instance , you need clean toilets at the stadium and maximum security. Nigeria is a poor country with no food on millions of peoples tables and you think all of a sudden our league will just grow on it own and rival the north Africans. The problem is rooted in our bad governance. 2 Likes |

BascoVanVeli:I beg to differ. Reason being that based on years ago, salary structure was wacky. Thug hiring was rampant, and discipline, club philosophy were absent. The reason the tanzanian women's league is fast growing is cos there is a healthy, consistent benchmark of salary payment. That alone is the attraction to sec school graduates to turn pro over there in tanzania instead of going to university. Its small, but consistent. Now how is that not totally assuring and relaxing to hear?! We both know we have a sh!ty salary structure in the npfl. 70k/week, and you wont smell beta alert for 7months? Let govt hand ova to private and watch how running clubs as profit-org wont make lots of mishap fall in place. |

Modified We're talking of ways of invigorating and reinforcing our squad for the impending world cup and beyond and some persons think hyping our players like some north african and english fans do is the way to go. What have the north africans and england achieved in the past decade with their "patriotism"? Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of ross barkley and the english media is awash with "reasons why barkley will oust fabregas". This is why england as a team can never record any remarkable achievement. The england team comprises a bunch of pretty overhyped players who think they're world class(save for few good ones tho). I dont even want to mention the north africans. Guess I should start singing that moses is better than ronaldo or iheanacho is better than kane before you guys see through my "patriotism". I give up! 3 Likes |

daveP: Let me be completely honest here, I am not blind to the fact that there are probably players still being owed salary as we speak but for the majority the NPFL is actually a well paying league compared to what is around. We have internationals from all over West Africa, players come back from abroad to play in our league. I can tell u that we have some players earning over 500k a month right now. If u are playing for Kano Pillars or Enyimba of Aba my brother u dey chop money small. There has to be a buyer first, the government cannot handover to the air. The reason Dangote wants Arsenal instead of a local club is that there is no money to make in our football yet. People cry handover but u don't know that the government is basically keeping our football on live support. Look at Ifeanyi Ubah the billionaire, at a point his players were reportedly not paid for 5 months. Hearing that issh if u were a business man interested in profits will u take a club even for free? 1 Like |

Next, relate with the home community where the stadium is. Give kids jerseys, organize mini-tourney and reward the talents in insurance ways. Then set a time to come watch a big game and cheer the team. These acts above can win them over anyway. Kogi stadium is situated in a sparse area. How does that help the home team? As for discipline, stadium conduct, obeying club rules, etc that is far fetched till ogas at the top ensure independent bodies to play their roles unhindered. Make rules that ensure anyone that assaults a ref is a scapegoat for the entire season. Connect this to their profile when foreign clubs come to get them and watch unruly behaviour reduce. I can go on. But the govt remains a large, giant problem of why our league is unsellable to even nigerians. This rot started in 2002/3. 1 Like |

daveP: You are very right... On your last statement what happened to private clubs that died long time ago... Julius Berger, Abiola babes, stationery stores and the likes... What happened to them? It is true state govt her not putting all the got into the team rather use it for political agenda this is one of the reason they won't sell the On pitches for past three season now all NPFL teams have a very good pitch of you don't have a good pitch LMC won't allow you to play in your home ground... Think LMC should do more of repackaging and more awareness... We have one already, the deal with NTA and LMC... Let see what will happen.. We just need to be patience better days for the league are coming soon.. 1 Like |

Exactly my point@ bascovanveli!! How definite are you that the collecting of half a milla is consistent? Those in charge ruined it. IUFC owed players too, so its not about having the cash, but the discipline to keep paying. Oga come watch hin team, and tv caught him chasing another player to beat him up!!! Jizos is lawd!! League should sit down and see if the 20teams have a budget, cash at hand to execute half a season, or take action. Its why crystal palace play in the epl asides the cash given them for promotion. Set pillars in place, and watch the structure go up to skyscraper length&strength |

Which league are you talking about here? Have you gone close to our league players before? I am not talking about 5 years ago, I'm talking about our players since LMC took over. Don't be surprised if you discover they are fresher than you. I have had close contact with them and I put it to you that alot of them are fresher than office workers. Go to the field of play hungry and angry? Maybe some of the new comers but certainly not known names. Some clubs owe salaries but majority aren't. Horrible pitch? Now I know you no nothing about the LMC led NPFL. OMANBALA1: |

Just irritating reading comments on the league from people who know little or nothing about the league. Some have never gone to watch a league match for years now but are quick to use 10 years ago incidence to judge the league. It's personal to me because a country with no working league is as good as useless future wise. Oasis007: 1 Like |

somehow:Thank you Concerning the pitches I can see caterogically that NPFL team have a very good pitches... I have seen some live matches with good fans and sold out ticket of popular stand.... People are coming out to see the matches especially with this LmC organisation.. Just need to give it to Oga Shehu Dikko he has done a great job... Last season oyo state govt turned down nairabet proposal to buy the club... And he signed a sponsorship deal with the team with coaster bus.. We need as public private partnership ...it will help and go a long way... And new set of younger players should be introduce to the league |

somehow: A few weeks ago, we saw Rivers United players begging Governor Wike for their wages. There was a similar problem with Rangers, i believe, during the season. As much as LMC has done good work and the league is much better, we still do have hungry and angry players. This improvement has been gradual. Salary standards were introduced just a couple of years ago and it was not followed by clubs at the start. There are still serious problems with the league. |

Mickael2: The difference between Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson with respect of handling Mikel Obi had to do with ideas. Ferguson had a plan for Mikel Obi. Had a carved out Niche for him. Sorry, not a creative midfielder as some think but a midfield marshall. Mikel Obi played lots of intelligence, strength and reads the game with pinpoint accuracy. The Obi Wan Nickname given by Sir Alex Ferguson showed absolute faith in Mikel Obi's talent to be a leader of a club like Manchester United. Mikel Obi was to replace Roy Keane. SAF had Roy Keane mingling with Mikel Obi. A kind of master - apprentice relationship. The room was going to be there with Roy Keane leaving Manchester United in a short time. Unlike Mourinho who had zero idea of how to use Mikel Obi or had a role carved out for him. Logically, Sir Alex Ferguson was a better pick. Wish Mikelele picked Manchester United but he was lucky to study a genius of the game on Makalele. |

You only mentioned 2 out of 20 clubs. How's that a fair judgement of the league? Hungry players? Rivers State owed those guys for 5 months and the governor claimed there was no money which was a lie because few months before then he traveled with Entourage to Spain for some yeye football meeting. You can't use that isolated case to judge the rest who made sure the players were paid. Rangers wasn't really salary, had more to do with bonuses. tbaba1234: Problems caused by Nigerians. |

We had about 2-3 privately owned clubs in the season that just ended, with time, more will come in. No stadium in the league is horrible, you won't even be allowed to host any match there. soetanoreoluwa: He has truly and really tried, also with the introduction of youth teams and kids league (primary school) pupils before 15 years. Are we there yet? No, but we have left the old for the new. For anyone to still paint the league with the brush of 10 years ago is wickedness. 1 Like |

Take one or two clubs and do documentary to be aired.. show how they relate, connect and create. each club should sell their brand, philosophy and managers also. If we don't upgrade to international standards of how a fc is, we would not play kpim at continental competitions. Now that's not progress. Cry all that the league is good now, but some logistics are just stil there. Overall, i twale for the LMC!! Now it lies with each club to make it way bigger. Club stores where fans can connect.... these are lil things that go a long way with Nigerian fans. Liamm i see thru the 'patriotism' too |

terzurum5: That question ❓ is too deep. You could probably do a PhD dissertation on it. Where do you start our Presidents and it didn't start with PMB all go abroad for just a medical check up. It goes beyond football. As a consequence because of very limited investment in our football it hasn't progressed. The gap in quality is considerable to put it lightly. Particularly when compared to European football. As a result patronage of the local football is abysmal. We have huge potential but almost zero investment. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by BascoVanVeli(m): 11:49pm On Jan 05, 2018 |
terzurum5: Refereeing. I am not talking about those criminals who call imaginary penalties at 89 minutes, what I want is a more offensive league. The league needs more goals in it. For the most part defenders are allowed to get away with murder on the pitch. Do Nigerian refs even carry red cards? Alhassan Ibrahim was getting kicked so badly at a point last season that I was ready for him to go abroad. The rules should protect the forwards so we can see more goals. A yellow card for a rash tackle has a major effect on a football match but our referees overlook everything except rudeness directed at them. |

BascoVanVeli:The year i followed the league like madt was the year Heartland FC and Kano Pillars made it to the CAF semis and TP Mazembe won that year. AIT aired it till end and see, i no go lie, i had to start getting expectant. Visitors to our home thought it was a barca, manu, chelsea match ongoing, but they were wrong. They both played 'sweet soccer' and that is why i still have Heartland etched in my head. Angered when i heard they got relegated, and i lost interest. Efe Efugh was my best to watch then asides Ike Thankgod. Then Gambo of Kano Pillars....all cos of AIT...if only that continued. My euro league friends could not just understand why i was even 'hyping' these 'mediocres'. I need a name to latch onto. |
