hello guys. i have been taking a rest from poultry, unfortunately an elderly friend sought my advice on his layer.according to him he bought 1000doc layers from zartech. he gave them gendox and vitamin accordingly.he gave gumboro on the eight day, then lasota on the seventeenth day. the birds reacted and started twisting their necks . few days later after some mortality ,when the mortality seemed reduced, with the mixture of gendox and conflox , he gave 2nd gumboro.since then he has recorded much mortality. today alone he recorded 30.he said he has place them back on gendox and tiviral ,this afternoon.pls note that he gave them gumboro only yesterday, and he has not given them the 2nd lasota yet. he said the birds are fine from the color of their faeces and their consumption is great.the birds will be four weeks on monday.the major symptons are twisting of neck, paralysis, and dropping of feathers.these are all signs of NDV, but i dont know what to tell him pls help!

Hi. Placing them on an antiviral drug isn’t going to work. He’s only making their resistance to antibiotics stronger. All he has to do is this: Isolate the ones with droopy feathers and twisty necks, administer Polidine/Neodine/iodesteryl for 5 days and then vaccinate for NCD. Neck twisting is a sign of nervous NCD or a lack of vitamin. He should also make sure he gets his vaccines from a reputable source as well as discard his vaccine vials properly after usage. Many farmers lack the vaccine disposal ethics. If symptoms persist, he should take a fresh carcass to the LAB for an approite PM. All the best to your friend.

How can you give Doxygen for two weeks? What does the dosage on the label say? Doxygen shouldn’t be given for more then 7days. This is antibiotics abuse at its peak.

Here are some questions for you:

*Your chicks are from what source?
*Did you get a vaccination schedule from the hatchery?
*What antibiotics have you given?
*Whats your management practice like?

House pls I need some experience advice, my birds are eating less and laying more. I have only 95 birds and they are laying 92 eggs daily for a month now, and they eat 9.6kg daily. My worry is that it might affect their health in future.

Again is it wise to vaccinated laying birds,

They’re at their peak and this is every farmer’s dream. Their uniformity is almost 100%. Your birds are doing great and for this, you ought to be glad. There’s nothing to worry about other than keeping up whatever management practice yours is. All the best!

Thanks turks, but pls what can I do to make them eat more. Is it advisable to vaccinate them and when will be the best time to vaccinate them
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Turks: 5:33pm On Jan 13, 2018
They’re not down with any ailment, you need not vaccinate or give any sort of antibiotics. Just give Vitamins. We recommend giving them ‘Amin’total’ by Laprovet or ‘Vitaminolyte’ by animal care as often as possible. Remember, everything in moderation. All the best.

My brother EMMAACHILE, please I need your advice. I know u must have had the experience of using gas to brood. How long will a 12.5kg gas last? Because using charcoal is becoming kind of stressful. Thank u.

Those I’ve heard of consume 0.25-0.29kg per hour. It’s good when you have large number of birds. Charcoal can be too stressful.

Am looking at both or what do you suggest.
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Turks: 4:51am On Jan 17, 2018
I’d rather you try your hands on broilers first before forging ahead. Raising Broilers will open your eyes to a lot of things regarding birds generally.
