Report filled with half truth. No wonder Trump could say those unprintable words about us. Nigeria importation dropped since 2014, while rice importation to Benin rose sharply. Those Nigerians importing to Nigeria, simply changed route and started importing through Benin and smuggling same into Nigeria without paying duty. So who is losing at the end of the day? Nigeria Government. Still qondeing why the rice is now a little bit cheaper. Smugglers are having a filled day and their business is thriving. This is because there is no scarcity of premium parboiled shortex rice in the market. If in doubt , visit various rice markets within our border towns. Ogun state still has cheap rice and their locally produced rice (ofada) is out of the reach of the common man. So where does that leave us? No where. We are simply not a honest country and we are not honest with our selves. Was Donald Trump right about us? I leave you to answer that. Good morning. 1 Like |

Liars. When you feed IDPs with confiscated rice after stealing a reasonable percentage and compelled the importers to pay for import duties at higher rates, what else do you expect. 1 Like |

Do the math. No matter how you look at it there is still 200, 000 tonnes less import to either Nigeria or Benin Republic. In addition, the government isn't supporting the dollar demand for such transactions meaning less pressure on our forex. Face it, there's a vast improvement in the local production of rice. 1 Like |

This is another work that Jonathan's government started in 2014 and had targeted an earlier date for a far lower (next to nothing) percentage of rice importation. |

Here is the link of the Thai Rice Exporters Association where they posted that data: http://www.thairiceexporters.or.th/export%20by%20country%202017.html Check out how their rice exports to Benin Republic are increasing with inverse proportion to the decrease in exports of rice from Thailand to Nigeria. Nothing has changed. We're simply importing Thai Rice through Cotonou. 1 Like

mumayyez: Nigeria's increased production of rice is a good thing but the fact that Thai exports of rice to Benin has more than doubled in 2 years tells you all that is really going on is that rice meant for Nigeria is being routed to Benin. no politics, just common sense. |
Re: Thailand’s Rice Export To Nigeria Drops By 91% by somehow: 9:11am On Jan 15, 2018 |
What the government need to do now is ban anything rice coming from Cotonu. Promise all customs officers posted to the borders of Benin republic with mouth watering incentives by the amount of smuggled rice recovered. lexy2014: Issue is that the increase is as a result Nigerians changing the direction of where the rice come in from. Nigerians and cunny cunny. It's in the blood. Build your own mba, chop the ones the few of your own are building Mba. But always ready to chop what other countries are building! Lazy thinkers! |
