somehow:its easier said than done.what amount of incentive can b more than confisticating bags of rice, cartons of Turkey, fish, tin tomatoes, vegetable oil and cars that they will share & take home 4 next 2 nothing?what amount of incentive is more than d handsome settlement they get from smugglers? What Nigeria needs in this situation is leadership, not just 2 wake up and ban all sorts. If buhari can provide leadership by patronising made in Nigeria (which is very unlikely), then attitudes will change. But not when d cuttlery he uses 2 eat was imported then they will now tell us not 2 eat imported rice. Bullshit. Giving subsidies and incentives is one way 2 encourage local farmers to boost production. Providing infrastructure, farming inputs that will help drive down d cost of production & by extension d price of rice. when that is done foreign rice will become unattractive & d govt can then begin 2 ban |

This is the biggest success story in Nigerian history to me. So it took less than 3 years to go from one of the world's highest importer of rice to one of the lowest and some wailers still compare Buhari to their failed years. God bless Buhari. 1 Like 1 Share |

explorer250: that police to band imported rice was one of the best though it was tough at the beginning. speaking from experience, I am into local food supply (source from kano). so many people abandoned farming in kano because they invest so much in farming at the end of the harvest they couldn't sale their produce because; one *Nigeria believes in anything imported *foreign product appears to be so cheap *who will invest in a place u wouldn't have a good return. so many people in kano that I know are happily returning back to farming. I know of someone from KIRU Kano state Alhaji Dambata a rice Farmer. last year, he invested about 3million naira to harvest 800bags of rice. if you want to know if there is an improvement, go to kano or other northern state (DAWANU market) am speaking of kano because I source from there. I sale a cup of local rice for #65 per cup and #68 per cup for Nigeria stone free and long grain rice. why are things so cheap in the north ,(ask those that supply it to ur state ) a basket of tomatoes do goes for less than #1000 in kano but it surprise me when I discovered that the same basket is #6000 in pH same to onions potato, rice, beans etc. this is what Nigeria needs and not those that seat back to play the blame game. people who will provide jobs and not job seekers government can't do it alone no government has ever done that. 1 Like 1 Share

They are not supposed to share it but to burn them. That's their rule of engagement so that alone is not an incentive Lol leaders are only few on number, it's the people below that actually run the country, not really the leaders. Ask me why Let me give you this analogy. You're told stealing is corruption and if you steal and you're caught, you go to jail. (What the leaders said). Those who will exceute this law aren't the leaders but the ones below (followers/civil servants), these people end up conniving with the culprit, derive another means of stealing without the leaders knowing and even if the leaders know, if he sacks those involved, the new one will still continue doing it. Those you see being caught are the ones who didn't do the biddings of these civil servants/followers. Until we understand that Nigeria is not working not because of the leaders but for the followers, what power does a leader in a democracy have without the people/followers? lexy2014: |

Hah hah, Naija dulling. The Thai rice you're looking for is right here
Since Benin's population didn't double from 2015 to 2017, guess where that extra rice is going? So if anything I'd say Thai exports to Nigeria (indirectly) is still doing very well thank you. 4 Likes |

somehow:I love d language u used, "they are not supposed to....". That means they no d rules of engagement but they don't follow it. Obviously, its more lucrative not following d rules of engagement than following. Like in my earlier post, I asked what kind of incentive can d govt give 2d customs guys that can b more lucrative than d " incentives " they collect on their own? Of course without leadership theres no followership but according 2 john maxwell, an authority in leadership studies, everything rises and falls on leadership. If u are d leader of a team of say 10people, it is ur duty 2 ensure that d people in d team keep 2d rules regulating conduct within d team so as 2 ensure that d goals&objectives 4 which d team was set up are realised. If ur team members are acting outside d ideals, norms, vision & mission of d team, it will lead 2d failure & collapse of d team&a reflection of ur poor leadership abilities.when this happens, d team leader takes d lions share of d blame. Just d same way if a team, succeeds, d leader takes d praise. Leadership isn't about numbers, its about access to&control of power and economic resources. Its about access to&control of d machineries of state which can b used 2 regulate how every one should behave. It lends credence 2d 20/80 and d 80/20 principle which states that 20% of d population control 80% of d resources & power of a society and 80% of d population share only 20% of power and resources. Politically, d power of our elected representatives derives from d constitution which by extension derives from d people. D leaders hold power in trust 4d people in a social contract 2 ensure that d vision/mission of d federal republic of Nigeria is realised. Do d followers have a role 2 play?absolutely. But where there's no leadership, everybody becomes a law unto himself which will lead 2 chaos, impunity, corruption & in extreme cases war |

More reason why I said the followers make the leaders. You can't be a leader without followers and if your followers don't obey what you say, then you are as useless as P in psychology. You have to have people before you can be a leader. It's from the people leaders come from, not the other way round. lexy2014: |

lexy2014:. Funny. You mean that the 180 million people are eating rice everyday? For more than 4 years now,we don't know what is imported rice in our rice. Like majority of Nigerians,we have gone local and our rice taste better than those Thai chemical preserve rice. Have you ever watch how Thailand people prepare this rice and the preservative chemicals they do add so that they don't get bad if they stay in their warehouses for long? Me and my people do with local fresh rice and we are in good health with that. Not all the 180 million Nigeria population do eat rice every day and still know that some people do still have way of smuggling rice into the country |

PHILipu1:d question u should b asking is do our 180million eat rice?if d answer is yes, do u expect an importer 2 wait 4d day u will eat rice b4 he imports?he makes provision knowing fully well that a veritable market exists. Local rice has been part of our diet 4a long long time d question is what proportion of our population eat it or fancy? Again, does it compare favourably with d foreign brands?I remember way back when d likes of uncle bens started making in roads into d Nigerian market, d selling point was d convenience, no stones, no blowing & no parboiling. But tnx 4 ur last statement about smuggling. Now we agree that that's its stockpiled rice we are eating, but smuggled rice |

Re: Thailand’s Rice Export To Nigeria Drops By 91% by lexy2014: 8:11pm On Jan 15, 2018 |
somehow:d question isn't about were leaders emerge from or from who or where they derive their authority 2 lead. D issue is what responsibility does a leader have?d leader carries d burden of d success or failure of a team, country or company. If ur team or followers aren't obeying u, it calls to question first ur legitimacy and or ur leadership style or qualities. Leaders have several tools, behavioral, intellectual, financial to motivate their followers 2 conform 2 norms and buy into d vision & mission of d team or whatever set up they lead. It is d responsibility of d leader 2 ensure that his followers obey him so he can succeeded as a leader. A leader who blames his followers 4 his failings isn't ready 2b a leader |
Re: Thailand’s Rice Export To Nigeria Drops By 91% by somehow: 8:36pm On Jan 15, 2018 |
Leaders can't be bad without the permission of the people in a democracy. If he's bad and still there, then it's the people that caused it. A good leader can't also lead if the followers are bad. In Nigeria, civil servants are the biggest looters. Quote me anywhere and anytime. We have less than 1k leaders and more than 15 millions civil servants. Do the math. lexy2014: |

somehow:obviously u haven't led people or u don't understand what leadership is. A leader doesn't need or depend on his followers 4 validation or permission 2b bad. 4d fact that Democratic leaders obtain authority from d people doesn't absolve them of d RESPONSIBILITY OF LEADERSHIP.Take note of d terms I used b4 like social contract. social contract helps u understand y we have democracy better& y we have more followers than leaders. Leaders are always supposed 2b fewer than d followers or do u expect d followers 2b fewer than d leaders? It still boils down 2d theory of social contract &d 20/80 principle. A good leader can ALWAYS lead even if his followers are bad that's y another word 4 leadership is INFLUENCE. D ability of a leader 2 influence those around him, either makes or mars him. This entails creating a new culture and instilling a new mental&behavioral attitude. Its either a leader sees his followers as problems or resources. Whichever way he sees them, he is right cos that's what they will b |
