Canada visa lottery? Never heard about.
I also haven't heard of it...A topic was created indicating Canada visa lottery was out,it was misleading ,though it was yanked off almost immediately...

Happy New Year to My naija people ooo. Waiting for mine to arrive here in BC. 2017 has been a year of great change in my life and it wouldnt have been possible without the support, advice, guidance, inspiration and FREE information I got from you guys in this group, the express entry group where I successfully graduated from, And the entire nairaland family. I want to use this opportunity to say a BIG THANK YOU to you all. You are all amazing and lovely people. May God bless you all in all your endeavors. Na una help me enter Canada so. At the start of 2017, this would have seemed like a daydream. The type u have when u have malaria. I'm at home doing some chores (which I wouldn't ever have had to do if I stayed back in Naija ooo. Wetin my nanny dey collect all dat salary for nw?), my wife is at work (cos she has a Sunday shift. She even has a new yr day shift sef. Wahala!) And im thinking back to this time last yr and it seems like ages away. Landed in September and a lot has happened since then. Now I value a lot of things I used to take for granted in Abuja. Especially the cheap labour and childcare. Thank God I'm a handy man sha. Now I understand why people abroad appear stingy sometimes. Chai. God forgive me for those misconceptions I had back when I was in Naija. Here the hustle is real... And chilled. No sentiments attached. It takes some adjusting, But we r fitting in gradually. God bless all of u who I answered my private messages when I needed help. God bless u all. I'm presently in BC, and will be glad to answer any questions I can answer to the best of my ability. I plan to start a movement for the owner of Nairaland to get a National award from the federal govt. He is our own mark zukerberg and he deserves to be celebrated. God bless you bro for creating this forum. You are a living legend. Make I go back to my house cleaning duties. Wish us all a more successful and prosperous 2018. May all your Good dreams come true this new year

My spouse is totally against relocating to Canada. I thought he will change his mind after receiving PUM but he has stuck to his guns and said the kids and I can relocate and he will visit from time to time. We are both in our late 30s.

I am not down with his idea so I am slowly giving up on my Cannydream.

Has anyone had a similar experience and how did it pan out?

Ehyah...so sorry to hear this.

The issues with most naija men to my mind are some of these;

1. Fear of starting almost all over in a very unfamiliar terrain.

2. A society where the woman is free to do as she wishes (no cultural restraints as instituted in Africa) and may easily "misbehave" and to top it, the laws and the society will side her 100% against the man, that unknown is scary to some.

3. Children loosing touch with the "home" culture and values...etc

Try to search what his innate fears are and try to genuinely address them (I know what I'm saying, some of us men are just ready to embark on the journey with the divine assurance that we will go with our spouses and the family won't disintegrate in the foreign land)

Some men know their wives' attitude and won't step a foot outside of this Naija to relocate elsewhere with them because they are fairly certain that their families may not come back in one piece...

Sis, keep praying and hoping for the best. I pray the future will deliver the best to your home and make everything end in your favour.

Hello House,

I just got my COPR and I am trying to book my flight to Edmonton with Ethiopian Airlines, I notice there is a stopover at Dublin. Now the question is "Do I need an Irish Transit visa?"

No you don't. You won't even disembark from the plane. The stop over will probably be due to crew change and refuel.
Congratulations on your copr...

Just a short response : you can travel with whatever amount you wish to travel with as long as you declare. Traveling with Over $10k cash is not a crime in Canada. You can also come with a part of it and leave the rest in your Nigerian usd account with an active atm card and/or Internet/mobile banking for transfers. A friend/family member of yours can also help transfer funds to you when you get here. Your choice

Thanks alot

What a wonderful thread,I have almost read all the 200+ pages

A quick questions please

If I secure a rent lease for say 12 months, and before the expiration of the 12 months, I get to buy my house and I want to walk away from the lease, what options are available to me in getting this done without having to hurting anybody nor breaking the law

Thanks for your response

Hello guys. Nice to see the thread progressing good. So since I landed in Canada in October I decided to study to pass the much dreaded medical exam (MCCEE).
I took the exam this January and it wasn't bad at all. Still waiting for the result but I know I'll get a very good score.
Just want to encourage other doctors to take the exams. The Canada Qbank questions used in preparing for the exam is actually harder than the exam itself. So just try and go through the questions twice and aim for a high score.
Presently trying to get a job while I wait for further tests. Getting other health jobs like pharmacy assistant, office assistant isn't looking easy. I'm trying out the Acces employment program in Ontario.
Would appreciate any advice that would get me something to do.

Hi, in your lease agreement should be a sanction clause for breaking your lease. This clause varies from agreement to agreement but essentially, you pay a penalty and may also forfeit your last month rent or the remaining months to complete your lease. You might also not lose your last month rent if you pay the penalty. Like I said, it all depends on the terms of the agreement you signed. I was in a similar position as I bought my house with 2 months left on my apartment lease. Rather than pay the penalty, I waited out the lease and spent the time furnishing and finishing my house to my taste. On the weekend my lease ended, I strolled out of the apartment and into my casa, no penalty, no issues. Hope this helps you smiley

Then, my experience here in Nigeria is in Downstream/Terminal Operations, Maintenance and Projects and am also a PMP. But I intend to go into Process Engineering(Process Engineer) in Canada.

Please, how do I go about this and what do I need to do with respect to getting a job and career switching?
I will appreciate detail response from the seniors in the house.

Please is the bank letter the same thing as the reference letter? If not, what is the content of the reference letter?

Thanks as you reply.

Bank letter is different from the regular reference letter. But any of them can be used along with presenting only TB as POF. Bank letter contains the bank details as required and specified by CIC on their website.

Look up conferences in Canada for this year. And try to book an attendance. Once successful, the organization body will issue you an invitation letter with which you can now process your visa application.

Greetings from Calgary! And Happy New Year everyone...

Moved over from the other thread post PPR, our application was delayed at the dreaded London visa office over 6months

Landed a month ago (on the first holiday snow day in December) Eeek! With my husband and 3 month old , other than a stomach bug that started just as we left Lagos, baby was super well behaved (thank God for pacifiers)

I hardly remember running into customs at the airport, cos check-in was a breeze (1 duffel bag with food stuff), weighed 5check in and 4hand luggage bags accurately from home, so no reshuffling..

Flight was great, layover in Amsterdam for 6/7hours and then to Calgary

Landing procedure didn't take more than 5mins after waiting in a short queue, declared $10k +, and all food stuff so I think that helped, also printed a goods to follow form ready when they asked...

We had a friend help us check out an apartment, filled out the application and all, only to find out while in transit that she declined our application cos we didn't have jobs (though my friend had told her we are new PR immigrants before she sent us the application),anyways, we found another place just before Christmas..

1st January: Had to go get formula for my lil'lady and decided to go with the bus for the first time since I was going alone (we had been uber-ing around with the baby cos of subzero temperatures)
Needed to get 2 buses there...planned the journey with Google Maps...the first bus was delayed 40mins!!!, this should have been a good time to go back to our warm flat, but I was determined (BTW, did I mention it was -20degrees with wind chill of about -35?)
Second bus was delayed another 20mins...at that point I was sure I was going to freeze to death...my fingers were freezing in my gloves! Got to the store and wandered around to get warm, bought the formula and decided Uber cos I cannot come and kill myself, got my phone out, and the battery just drained suddenly from 60%...
Stood by the exit asking people to help with uber so I give them cash, but most people have cars hence no uber app, finally got a Congolese guy who was kind enough to get me home, thank God...a 30mins store run took about 4hours...oh well, got a story out of it...

So far, so good...we have met with settlement and career advisors with different agencies while applying for jobs...general advice has mostly been NETWORKING! Based on this, I have revived my LinkedIn account smiley

Would really appreciate advice from those who have settled in who might have an idea of /leads for paid or unpaid internships in the public health/ not for profit sector and Architecture as well...

Hi cathymia. My wife is a public health person and we plan to land in Calgary also in March. It will be nice if we can connect and share ideas, if you don't mind. We have not been able to get a lot of info about Public/Community health in Calgary. You can reach me via bukolajayi@yahoo.com. I am having issues with sending PMs.

Renting a house, does the landlord/manager ask to know the number of people that would be occupying the house? Would they allow a family of 5 rent a 2 bedroom apartment?

TheCongo2,

What do you think about those high rise apartment in London, particularly those owned by drewloholdings. I was in London recently and I visited some of them, they appear nice from the outside, but I want to know if you have ideas about those high rise building .Which one would you recommend between those apartment and condos

Do you still think it is possible to do this online before arrival (besides Airbnb). Some landlords are used to signing leases with new immigrants and would waive the requirement for a credit check or employment history. If you have someone on ground willing to meet with the landlord prior to arrival, that would help
I am shocked to hear about the bus delays. Isn't there a way to track the movement of the bus. [font=Lucida Sans Unicode]The delays are usually due to the weather as there are more accidents and navigating the roads when snow accumulation is 20cm and above is tricky. Google maps would usually tell you what delays are along your route. However i find the calgary transit app more useful.

Finally, please how long did it take to get your health card upon landing? I mean how long did it take for you to access the free healthcare in Calgary? I landed pregnant at 32 weeks. I went to the registry to apply for my health card and went back the next day to ask if i could get my health number written on a temporary card so I could use this to visit my intended gp. The gp clinic accepted that temp card but not all clinics would.(read as no written on cardboard paper with registry info). The health cards came in the mail within 5 days or so.

I have a baby who is less than 2 months and we looking at landing in Canada next month. How did you manage your baby's clothing given the weather in Canada? As per the cover up...
layer up as much as possible for landing....for example, body suit, pants, sweater, another pair of pants, hat, gloves, socks, booties then a jacket. When you land, you can buy a snow suit for the baby that you can zip her in and it keeps em really warm. However don't fret too much, you most likely won't come in contact with the elements for long on arrival.

Ok... you have a point
But you may use the line of questions asked by the hiring manager to determine if the lack of Canadian experience could be a factor
It may take only one wrong word from the hiring manager for you to have a strong case with the commission

And once the commission is on the case, trust me that everything will be revealed
They are very good in their investigation
You don't need strong evidence to contact the commission. You only need clues. And the commission will do the job of finding the evidences.

P.S. alford1 , I hope we aren't confusing requirement for Canadian experience and reqirement for Canadian certification on regulated field. Two different issue here
