I can understand and appreciate this. But if state governors looked inwards and capitalized on their unique strengths, they won't need to go hand in cap, and over decades, can assert more and more of their own independence and authority (which is really only possible with growing economic strength). This would actually be much more productive than the calls for restructuring which - by itself - won't put food in peoples stomachs, or suddenly result in great healthcare.

You mentioned the existing constitution was carefully negotiated by the federating units... including the ones clamoring for break away. Weren't they the same who agreed to the Constitutions, and to be bound by them?

When IPOB was doing its own nonsense last year, I said the same thing... Igboland would be much better served focusing on improving economic conditions, and grooming its children so they become part of the ruling elite. As an example: an Igbo child is more likely to go into trade than to go into government administration. Conversely, you'll find a lot of Hausa/Fulani children going into the civil service as recruits/clerks/porters/guard/cleaners. As the years go by and promotions are made, the core of leaders in the civil service will consist mostly of people in the civil service (i.e. Hausa).

Yes, there is solid evidence of Northerisation agenda, as made explicit by Sir Ahmadu Bello (who I respect for his position and efforts towards his people, yet am sincerely disappointed in his positions towards people like me not from the North), and being continued till this day under Buhari.

Nevertheless, I think we have made great progress away from the mindset of people born before Independence. I think we owe it to future generations of Nigerians to continue to seek more fruitful ways of nation building together, rather than seeking the exit at every opportunity, in spite of whether we were thrown together in a marriage of convenience or not.

No need for rhetoric....
The present unitary system isn't working...
It makes states non productive....
How can we be sharing the wealth of a nation based on land mass, population n number of L.G.....
It makes no sense....
If states are in control of their own police force, fulani herdsmen wouldn't enter a community and massacre over a thousand at will.....
States governors have their own share of the problem but centralisation of power really limits their ability to get things done in their respective states....
Look at how federal policies destroyed the TINAPA project in cross rivers....
F.G ineffectual port policies ensured we have only two fully functional ports in the country both in Lagos leaving the rest redundant ...
Look here, so many things are wrong with naija n the fundamental flaw lies in getting almost everything done in Abuja.....
That thing called exclusive list must be ripped apart and any state bold enough to take charge should be allowed to chart its own course independently.....
There's nothing wrong if states are allowed to keep 100%
revenue from farm produce exports....
Don't u think that will motivate governors to do more for agriculture in their respective states......

Why not? A simple call for referendum can do it. The president just needs to show leadership.

Joblessness at its peak. If they had a shred of integrity they would have approached their representatives to introduce areas of restructuring but once again they assume Nigeria is a dictatorship where the president can just order reatructure and it is. poor reading culture. U didn't see where they said they aren't interested in restructuring by the national assembly as the 1999 constitution has been designed to only favour the north? U obviously didn't read it, u were in a hurry to post and get likes.

Frankly speaking, most of them don't know a thing about how the constitution work and why we have the constitution...

Restructuring can only take place when the NASS consent to it....Buhari is a president and can't do the works of the House!
both you and usba are stark illiterates. these group is not advocating violence like ipob. all they ate asking for is for the country to aore productive system of governance. check jaideyone. I've been unrepentantly probuhari and anti ipob. I don't support threatening other ethnic groups and calling the country a zoo but the system is not working and we need a change from this money sharing system!!!

what is wrong if professors decide to publish ideas to move the country forward in a newspaper? did they in anyway call for violence? their published opinion doesn't stop the NASS from doing their work so why are you exhibiting your ignorance?

no matter how you look at it the southwest is 100years ahead of the north in development. you northern illiterates can keep pretending all is well but it's only a matter of time before the teeming illiterate population in the north start the revolution you are busy fighting in the south. when the time comes the unrest will start in the north. your elites will be too busy trying to put the north in order to stop Yorubas and other southerners from leaving the country!!!

we all know the region with various diseases, highest poverty rate, highest illiteracy rate and over 20million out of school children!!! the current system doesn't favour anyone. if we are patriots like we claim and we want Nigeria to get better we have to be ready to tell ourselves the truth!!!

Restructuring of course. Military Government is never forever, they eventually have to give way to civilians.

But trying to restructure a country that has needs a two thirds to agree in a vote at the national assembly, thats impossible

Impossible? Well it's very possible.

Note that it's politicians from across the country that are against restructuring. It's deceitful to believe that the north is against restructuring.

If all southern politicians agree to restructuring, it's very easy. Let all our senators and hor hold a meeting and agreed on restructuring, then it will be done.

Did you see the ad on page 25 of Punch newspapers today? If you didn't, you need to.

Yorubas are calling for Restructuring before 2019 elections or they would leave the Federation.
Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB were saying the same thing for past few years.

Glad SW intellectuals are gradually standing up and please check the number of Professors, Doctors, Architects, SANs, Pastors etc that signed the advert. [/quote]

What stopped all the representatives, businessmen, intellectuals, governors, senators, from transforming Yorubaland into a fantastic region where everyone is gainfully employed, factories are abundant, water flows, hospitals are well equipped, schools are functional? Are these not state responsibilities? Is it Abuja that decides how primary schools are run? Is it Abuja that is responsible for ensuring pipe-borne water?

Excellent observation. I have no problem with dividing Nigeria into 36countries if need be
We have been blaming the North for decades

Even if violence is implied it does not have to be symmetrical or conventional and the protagonist chooses their timetable. We saw what Boko Horam ,Mend and Fulani herdsmen can do. .
If the Yoruba nation wages asymmetrical war against Nigeria in the current climate it cannot survive. It will very quickly become a space or multiple warlords.
No one wants that but it could happen and very quickly too.
Libya,Syria, Somalia, Iraq will look like a picnic .
There is no way Nigeria can remain under civilian rule in such a scenario. It remains to be seen whether the Nigerian Army will fall under one command in the event of a coup

New weapons have to be tested somewhere
