Blackbuddy:

Hi, in your lease agreement should be a sanction clause for breaking your lease. This clause varies from agreement to agreement but essentially, you pay a penalty and may also forfeit your last month rent or the remaining months to complete your lease. You might also not lose your last month rent if you pay the penalty. Like I said, it all depends on the terms of the agreement you signed. I was in a similar position as I bought my house with 2 months left on my apartment lease. Rather than pay the penalty, I waited out the lease and spent the time furnishing and finishing my house to my taste. On the weekend my lease ended, I strolled out of the apartment and into my casa, no penalty, no issues. Hope this helps you smiley

Thanks a million.It helps

Ese o @TEECANN what you wrote down are all his fears especially the one of starting over. God will lead us.

TEECANN:

Ehyah...so sorry to hear this.

The issues with most naija men to my mind are some of these;

1. Fear of starting almost all over in a very unfamiliar terrain.

2. A society where the woman is free to do as she wishes (no cultural restraints as instituted in Africa) and may easily "misbehave" and to top it, the laws and the society will side her 100% against the man, that unknown is scary to some.

3. Children loosing touch with the "home" culture and values...etc

Try to search what his innate fears are and try to genuinely address them (I know what I'm saying, some of us men are just ready to embark on the journey with the divine assurance that we will go with our spouses and the family won't disintegrate in the foreign land)

Some men know their wives' attitude and won't step a foot outside of this Naija to relocate elsewhere with them because they are fairly certain that their families may not come back in one piece...

Sis, keep praying and hoping for the best. I pray the future will deliver the best to your home and make everything end in your favour.

It will end in praise IJN!

Thanks very much

vcole:
layer up as much as possible for landing....for example, body suit, pants, sweater, another pair of pants, hat, gloves, socks, booties then a jacket. When you land, you can buy a snow suit for the baby that you can zip her in and it keeps em really warm. However don't fret too much, you most likely won't come in contact with the elements for long on arrival.

Why is he scared of that. As long as he is not abusive he has nothing to fear. The law court is fair in Canada.

I will be leaving for Canada in two weeks and i have some extra OK winter jackets i want to sell off at N2,500

My location is Abuja, Anyone interested outside Abuja would have to pay the shipping cost or send someone to pick it up on their behalf.

These are too light. You need something thicker.

He is a gentle soul. Not everyone can up and go. Can imagine what Abraham felt when God told him leave your fatherland and go to an unknown land.

Good day all....

Please I'll like to find out, for those who travelled with more than 10kCAD, please how did you go about it. For those who didn't go with much cash, how did you move your funds please?.

Also please i have been reading about getting valuations fir jewelries. Does this include beads and costume jewelries or strictly gold. Does it include like wedding bands and earrings we have on please?

Sorry if i am asking questions that has been overflogged, if this be the case, Kindly direct me to the page(s) it is. Thanks

I travelled with 16k combo of Pounds nd Cad. Indicated it on my landing form, Immigration officer asked why I had such and I explained that I wasn’t comfortable wiring the money cos it might take some days and I just didn’t wanna get stranded. “ He spoke in low voices so as nt to draw attention”. I filled a 2nd form in case the bank asked question when I wanna deposit it.

Hello all. I have been a silent member for some months and benefited from all the wealth of knowledge from various posts from the seniors in the house. I landed in Mississauga, Ontario under the express ent. program last weekend and it has been more difficult than I anticipated getting a decent accommodation here to rent for a fair budget. I am temporarily staying in an airbnb as I do not have any alternative arrangement for accommodation but I need to move out in a few days at most. I thought to ask if there is there any female around the area looking to rent a 2 bedroom apartment to share, or any referrals to a studio/ good basement apartment. I haven't had good experiences on kjiji and other Canadian online sites as yet so exploring all my options at this time. Many thanks

How I wish you are a guy. Keep looking.
But I usually see more female rentals on kijiji.ca. I have even seen a landlord offering free rental to females.
Check out the postings and try to text or call the posters.
It will end in praise.

Where in Mississauga are you?

Fear is an illusion. The fact immigration is on your mind tells me that things aren't going well with your current situation. If so you wouldn't be on this thread. Your husband needs to lead his family and do what he needs to do, and stop making decisions based on emotions. Or in this case an illusion.

He may not be making his decisions based on emotions. There are peculiarities to each marriage and each person's situation as regards immigration.

He is leading his family in the way he knows best. I believe we should try not to make Madam to start vexing for oga silently (I guess she may be frustrated already) so we do not pour oil into an open fire, whether they stay here or leave, let the home be happy abeg. My people have a saying 'bi ode o dun, bi igbe ni igboro n ri'....if your yard is bitter, the whole world at large will look like a forest.

If she forces this immigration thing down his throat, he may end up going with her and make her miserable.

@ Rainazoe :Like someone earlier suggested, appeal to his fears with logical rationale, if he does not agree, do short landing and keep your options open. Who knows, he might travel and love the place.

P.S shortlanding should be in summer o, if you take person wey no wan relocate before go see cold, he go run back home asap and confirm say naija na the place to be.

All will be well.

Thank you so much. This advice is so on apt. I have chilled from yapping about Canada o and don't even brood about it so it doesn't come between us.

We will definitely make the short landing and I hope he falls in love with Canada.

Nigerians equate money to everything. So your kids future or lack of it is your issue. That makes sense, and I suspected that. Me personally my kids future is not up for negotiation. My loyalty would lie with them before anyone else. But that's me.

The home is clearly not happy if she has to come here to ask for advice. Canada is a proven product where a person's achievement is based on merits. Most of the times any way. Nigeria is a unproven product. Currently a failed state. If she has concerns about her kids future or lack of it in Nigeria, she needs to pick up and migrate if she can legally. Instead of walking around stroking her alpha males husband's ego who deep down is consumed by fear. If it's time to go to war and my captain starts showing fear and is not ready to die for the cause, do you think I'd follow his lead ? Any man who puts his fear ahead of doing what's best for the kids will not be leading my household. I just couldn't take him seriously.

Don't mind Maternal... grin grin (Why I didn't grace his post with a reply!)

Some things can't just be disclosed in a public forum lest one is mistakened for a brag.

Hmmm, thank God for the journey thus far in Naija (I cant complain cheesy) and joyfully expectant of the future in Canny.

No doubt he is on point regarding giving the kids a better learning and growing environment (if the assumption behind his posts points in that direction) but to make a blanket assumption that people are generally not "doing well" at home, reason why they are on the thread, will be stretching the ignorance too far (come on, this is Nigeria o, not India! you no know the weight of my naija people na im dey make you yarn like that cheesy) I have met people from this thread one on one (I don't have to mention monikers) and I'm like what are these folks looking for again? grin grin

But like someone said, priorities for immigrating are so diverse and different for many people, you will be pleasantly shocked, seeking for better financial opportunities in the short term is the least of the reasons for embarking on the immi-journey in the first instance for many!

It will definitely end in praise IJN!

I will be landing in Toronto by August 2018 ending.

Please I need a room in Toronto.

As a student, I don't want to rent my own house because of cost.

Abeg, rude is rude! No need trying to explain it away. One can easily say what they need to say without being outrightly condescending. It is utterly unnecessary for anyone to belittle others in their bid to give subjective counsel. But anyway like I said in my initial post, she is very nice!
