Just why is this show getting such a low publicity as good as it is.

I tell you, I wonder too.

First show in a long time I can re-watch without feeling I'm wasting my time.
Prison break was another show I could watch multiple times, season 1 and 2

You completely missed the point I was trying to make. I will try to elaborate further on this.

Did Walter pay for his sins, though? Not really. Sure, he died, but it was expected from the start. He had cancer, remember? Then, he went into a life of crime to provide for his family, which naturally, escalated to a full fledged drug business - the kind that can wipe out a whole family tree. He pulled a lot of sh*t that somewhere along the line, even the most obtuse of viewers must have realized that Walter ain't getting out of this alive. But, that's btw, it doesn't really matter.

What matters is this: Breaking Bad wants you to believe that if you have honest to heart motive, it's OK! Hey, you can kill a lot of people, but since you're taking BAD people out of the equation and also doing it to take care of your family, that it's all okay. That your family will be taken care of in the end. That's romanticizing crime if ever there is one. That's not real life.

Jesse wasn't the protagonist and btw, him being a wreck is insignificant because, it was expected. Ditto Skyler. Walt BIL was an FBI agent, thus, getting killed in the line of duty wasn't that peculiar.

Bottom line, Walt's family lived on - without any Witness protection program involved - without any consequences, to enjoy the wealth he accumulated, via his meth business.

His cancer came back which was shown to all, so he was probably going to die. I get that. He was already dying (mentally, physically and probably psychologically as well)

I don't agree that his family lives on without any consequences as that is surely an assumption which neither of us can verify

The point is Walt wreck everything and everyone around him

At times in life that's worse than being caught of ending up in jail

While all around you crumbles

The writers and makers on the show were not glorifying crime

If you do a little research there is an actual character called Walter White and though the show stretches some of his life, the crux is still the same

And to conclude....not every bad person ends up suffering for their sins

Just take a look at Nigeria and it's elite and you will understand better

Real world doesn't work that way

Hardworking people don't always get their reward and some lazy People are fortunate to be very successful

I digress......

Does Breaking Bad glorify methamphetamine use and production?

Every single person -- every single person -- involved in methamphetamine use and production in Breaking Bad ended up physically and/or mentally ravaged, murdered or in prison. The death rate of principal characters had to have been over 90%.

Worse, numerous people who were innocent of meth use or production but who had the misfortune to be associated with those who did ended up debased and/or murdered.

Even those characters who found "success" in the drug business didn't get to enjoy a dime of it.

Walter and Skylar White ended up with a pallet load of drug money but instead of being the answer to their prayers, the money itself was a terrible problem. They couldn't enjoy it, they couldn't spend it, they had to hide it, they worried about it constantly and it led to the murders of Hank, Gomez and Walter himself, plus Jesse's derangement.

Jesse was gradually demoralized by his involvement with Walter White. He destroyed the last chance of getting back into his parents' good graces by using some meth profits to screw them over and purchase their house for half of what it was worth. Every attempt at celebration devolved into misery and self-degradation. Not to mention both of his girlfriends died due to his drug involvement. When he finally got his hands on tons of money it led directly to his imprisonment. Eventually he was held captive like an animal for several months and was eventually driven insane.

Meth kingpin Gustavo Fring had untold millions in various Swiss bank accounts but had to live in a nondescript house and hold down two stressful jobs while trying to deal with drug cartel strong-arming before being assassinated.

Almost all of the other main characters died ugly deaths. And the thousands or millions of people using Heisenberg's meth suffered all of the gruesome mental and physical affects of hardcore drug addiction.

Breaking Bad depicts the least glorified view of involvement in the drug trade imaginable. I'm struggling to imagine how it could have been made any more unglorified.

@ladej, you're still not getting it. All the points you raised are varied, and I can't fault them, BUT, They. Don't. Matter.

The story was been told through Walter White's POV. He was the main protagonist - all others are just supporting characters. As such, you would expect supporting characters to be killed off from time to time to facilitate the flow of the plot and the subplot, yes?

What I am trying to say is this: Walter as the main protagonist, killed people, ruined a lot of lives, but somehow, got away with it.

In organized crime, people at the thick of things don't go unscathed, they just don't. In Broadwalk Empire, Nucky Thompson got clipped in the end. In The Wire, main protagonists, Omar, Stringer Bell, Avon... got clipped. In Oz, Vernon Schillinger got murdered by Keller. In SoA, Jax committed suicide as the walls were closing in on him. In The Shield, Shane Vendrell murdered his wife, kid and himself as the law closed in on him. In Peaky Blinders, Tommy's wife got murdered. I could go on and on...

The following are the few times when TV shows depicted the actual grievous consequences that come with letting oneself get involve with organized crime. They didn't go easy on the protagonists at all, as real life wouldn't either.

Breaking Bad failed in this department, and as such I would always rate those shows I mentioned above it. That said, it's still one of the greatest TV series of our generation.
