Of all the nicknames you listed, it is only Sizzling I didn't know about... I knew about the rest. My dad's soccer tales and Elder bro's football archives helped me see them. wink

Of the great commentators, I only know Yinka Craig (fair skinned guy who wore glasses- used to watch him on morning ride I think on NTA), Fabio Olanipekun (I call him the grandmaster... with his grey hair lolll), and Ahmed Adio also from NTA.

At least I caught up with their later years in sports journalism... grin
No wonder you shabi the game

From the game played against Angola how many points are we getting? 1, 2 or 3.

cc: TheSuperNerd, Certitude.

You asked for it. The total points we have gathered so far from CHAN

Sadly, it's competition strength is 1 but a win either over 90 minutes or in extra time is 3

Nigeria's Stars Emirates FA Cup 5th round draws

1. Victor Moses: His side Chelsea will play hosts to Hull City.

2. Ola Aina: He won't feature for Hull I think as he is on loan from parent club, Chelsea.

3. Kelechi Iheanacho: Looking to continue his goalscoring run when Leicester take on Sheffield Utd.

4. Fred Onyedinma: If his side Millwall gets pass Rochdale then one of Tottenham or Newport awaits. Likely will be Tottenham. wink

5. Shola Ameobi: 2014 WC participant, Big Shola will get the chance to take on Sheffield wed. if he and Notts county can get pass Tammy's Swansea.

The Fixtures in full (Feb.16-18)

West Brom v Southampton

Chelsea v Hull

Leicester v Sheffield United

Huddersfield/Birmingham v Manchester United

Millwall/Rochdale v Newport County or Tottenham

Sheffield Wednesday v Notts County/Swansea

Brighton v Coventry

Wigan v Manchester City

All these people that will be giving person unnecessary tension. Radio culture was good. I think that s partly the reason why all of the nicknames became popular.

Ernest Okonkwo at some of his very best

“Okey Isima, with a short pass to Sylvanus Okpala. They both play in Portugal. They can communicate in Igbo; they can communicate in English; they can communicate in Portuguese and they just communicated with the ball”

“Etim Esin, he shilly-shallies, he dilly-dallies, he tries to beat one man but only succeeds in beating himself”

“He beats Christian Chukwu; he beats Christian Madu; he beats Christian Nwokocha…….he beats three Christians in a row. Who is this man? He must be a Muslim. Oh, it is Shefiu Mohammed sending a diagonal pass to Baba Otu Mohammed”

Now do tell who today beats such poetry.... the man was a wordsmith

QuickSilver sylvanus Okpala.... you have to be very good to coin such nicknames

Ernest Okonkwo

Nigeria vs Tunisia, 1978
WC Qualifying match
He starts off slowly. “As the game peters out to the dying minutes of this rather engrossing match, a long ball is floated into the Eagles 18 yard box. It seems like an eternity for it to land……(then as the action intensifies, his voice becomes racy)……Godwin Odiye, under pressure from the advancing Tunisian attacker is there to deal with it. Without looking back, he expertly heads the ball backwards toward Okala…..(his voice is now loud). ………Okala is rushing out to retrieve the loose ball. (his voice becomes louder) ……….Oh noooo…..it’s an own goal. Nigeria has scored Nigeriaaaaaa. It was a misjudged header by Odiye, as Okala goes the wrong way and the ball the other way. The ball rolls effortlessly into an empty net.
……(he tones down his voice into a sombre one).
A sad spectacle to watch……What a calamity! (His voice is now slow)…………. The Tunisians are joyous and celebrating victory. And the Nigerian camp is understandably subdued. Odiye bends down in shock as he watches the long towering figure of Emmanuel Okala walk slowly towards goal to retrieve the ball from the net. The stadium is agonisingly silent. You can hear a pin drop. The Green Eagles are rooted to the spot. They can’t believe their eyes. Even Father Tiko is motionless. It was as if someone had just died………to everyone listening, it is with sorrow in my heart that I return you to the studios. Bye-bye Nigeria!”.

Nigeria Vs Egypt
“….and the ball is ballooned skywards out of the Eagles defence by Chairman Christian Chukwu, but Muda Lawal runs towards the ball and controls it superbly with the deft touch of his right boot as if it was glued to it. The midfield maestro strolls majestically with the ball. He then sprays the ball towards Chief Justice Adokie on the left of midfield, who darts to the left and cleverly cuts the ball back in one fast swift motion, losing his marker in the process……he crosses the ball and it reaches Mathematical Segun Odegbami. He exchanges a one two with Muda. Odegbami collects the ball back, sells a dummy and beats another player with a leg over……the crowd roar in delight….. he’s running to the right flank… He calculates one and two, maybe he will find Muda Lawal again at the perimeter circle, but he decides to kick a 50 meter cross close to the 18 yard box of the opponent. Blockbuster Aloysius Atuegbu intercepts the ball. He bamboozles his way past two players using his physical strength. He dribbles one, dribbles two and releases a cannon shot! It’s a goaaaallll!!! Oh no! The Egyptian goalkeeper, Ikrami Ahmed, tips the ball over the bar, just when the ball was flying into the top corner of the goal post! What an intercontinental ballistic missile…what a brilliant world class save by Ahmed. And what a great flowing move by the Green Eagles. Even Father Tiko is standing in admiration”.

brilliant commentary, love the use of figurative speech.

This is obviously much better than what obtains these days, you have to switch to pidgin commentary if you want to enjoy the game

Kelechi Iheanacho Asks to leave Leicester City

Kelechi Iheanacho has told Leicester boss he needs to go out on loan for regular football, with Newcastle said to be up for a deal if Jorgensen is no longer a possibility.
The 21 year old Kelechi Iheanacho has had a tough time at Leicester after his £25m move last summer, Newcastle claimed to be interested back then, before reality kicked in and Rafa had to settle for £5m Joselu on a very limited budget.

The former Manchester City striker has only started two Premier League matches for Leicester and played only 255 PL minutes in total with no goals.
More or less limited to cup games, Iheanacho has a decent five goals in four cup starts (plus one off the bench), including scoring twice in Saturday’s 5-1 win over Peterborough.
Looking a good player at Man City and with a very decent goals to start ratio, Kelechi Iheanacho just couldn’t though get a regular game at the Etihad due to the competition for places.

At Man City, the Nigerian international scored 21 goals (all competitions) in 20 starts (plus 44 appearances off the bench).
It is over 10 weeks since Kelechi Iheanacho even came off the bench in the Premier League, so a loan deal looks likely, to somewhere.

If there is any substance to claims of Newcastle interest, then hopefully Leicester wouldn’t see a problem in the player going to St James Park. The Foxes have really picked up since Claude Puel’s arrival and are nowhere near the relegation zone, now sitting in seventh place with 34 points and only a couple of wins off certain safety.
Only two days now until deadline day and the clock ticking ever louder for Newcastle to bring in essential signings.

'Fortuna wants to get rid of success trainer Oliseh and approach successors'

Striking news from Limburg: despite the good performances in the Jupiler League, Fortuna Sittard may want to get rid of trainer Sunday Oliseh. The strong criticism of the club management and the conflict with a few staff members and players may be fatal for the coach. His hard approach is not appreciated by everyone.

That says De Limburger . Although Fortuna Sittard denies that it wants to get rid of the coach, the medium reports the opposite on the basis of 'different well-introduced sources within the club'. Kevin Hofland, at the moment still youth coach of PSV, would be in the picture to take over with René Eijer.

"If you get a chance like that, you do not have to think twice: Fortuna currently has an excellent team", says Eijer. Although Hofland, who has an expiring contract in Eindhoven 'says he does not know anything about it, he has already had contact with the Limburgers before. "In November, Fortuna talked about my future."

From next season the plan was already to switch to the duo Eijer / Hofland, possibly an acceleration. Oliseh, who is interested in a German club, did not want to respond to the surprising rumors himself. For the time being, things are going well for sports: the period title has already been won, and the club is still in the running for the title.
