A middle aged man, Muideen Agboola, who is standing trial for dealing in hard drugs, on Monday entered a plea of guilty at a Federal High Court, Ibadan. According to him, poor economy forced him to commit the crime. In entering his plea, he said: “I plead guilty to the offence and I beg this court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing me.” Agboola, who trafficked 150 grammes of marijuana. said he did not have money to pay for a lawyer to defend him. Earlier, Mr Raphael Himinkaiye, Counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command, said Agboola, was arraigned for a charge of unlawful dealing in hemp. Himinkaiye said the accused committed the offence on Dec. 5, 2017 at Sanusi Village on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. According to the prosecutor, Agboola was arrested with a bag containing 150 grammes of hemp. The offence contravened Section 11 (C ) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation 2004. Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek, remanded him in prison and adjourned the case until Feb. 7 for judgment.
