I didn't make excuses for Suarez, it's strange that you skipped 23 years old strikers we have everywhere in the world doing wonders who are age mates of Okpotu but went ahead to use suarez as an example.

Morata is not Spain's point man since you still think we should compare, so let's use country for country.

Another reason why I see your comparison as misguided is that Morata isn't the first choice for Spain.

HGS is why Okpotu is in morroco, do you think if it didn't help him, he would have been picked? So sir being HGS in the NPFL took him to CHAN.

Finito.

It is not funny it is common sense. Luis Suarez is one of the best strikers ever and if he can miss in bunches then why hold Okpotu to such impossibly high standards?

Morata that started every game in the last Euro's is not Spain's point man? So u are telling me that if Okpotu was not the top scorer he wouldn't have been selected. So why did Gabriel with all his 3 goals from last season make the team?

But Suarez is not 23, compare him with another 23yrs who got picked based on being his leagues HGS.

Not scoring goals on a bigger stage rubishes the league he plies his trade you know?

Yes, he might not have been picked if he wasn't, I know some of the players in the CHAN list aren't the best. You know this yourself

Junior Lokosa (Kano Pillars) could be the Stephen Odey of this season.

6 goals in 6 games for him...

I hope he doesn't do a Stephen Odey so soon though...

Hopefully he will pick up from where he stopped.

He followed money to the EPL to the detriment of his football career.
I don't think is the issue of following money to EPL,sometimes things just don't work out for some players, not only Musa cos we have seen players coming to EPL and had it tough.

In the case of Musa, I am tilting towards money as the influencer. He was doing so great in the Russian league and also making UCL almost every season playing against the best in Europe. Anyways now that he's going back there, he should please enjoy football once more.

My problem with some Kano Pillars players is that they never want to leave lol. But when it comes to salary package, Pillars and Enyimba are pretty high up there in Africa at least.

Maybe Musa should never have left Moscow....

He had a great career there!!! The club still loves him.

He should have never left there ke,he went to a bigger league so don't say so, If he flourished you will not say such a thing and mind you he was not given much chance after the sack of Claudio Ranieri

Wish Echiejele, Musa and Etebo all the best as they face new challenges. Wish Rohr all the best as he knows best the final 23 for the world cup.
These CHAN boys might just win this tournament. Repeat of 1994 (won the AFCON and went to world cup) loading.

Hearing Mahrez to Man City... Abeg who is he planning to replace in that midfield? Silva? Debryune? Who are his advisers??

Rihad mahrez is a winger mostly so he is not replacing those players you mentioned, man city has 3 wingers, sterling sane and bernando Silvia so he can fight for his shirt,as none there is Messi or Ronaldo, and mind you Leroy sane is injured and out for 7 weeks

Great news, now Iheanacho should work harder and be more productive so as to cement his place permanently in the team. I really need him to make the fans feel the same way the invitees at the wedding Jesus did his first miracle felt when they were served the better wine.
not really good news to me cos i expect him to move this January though Mahrez potential moves would give him the opportunity to fight for a place but a move to Newcastle would have been better, remember Vardy is the issue

Harry Kane didn't have tens of goal scoring opportunities in the Euros, neither did he waste goal scoring opportunities the way Okpotu has done. Gerrit?

Suarez at 23 was destroying defence everywhere he played. Even now at 29-30, he's still scoring for both club and country.

Next?

Echiejile Joins Second-Tier Belgian Club Cercle Brugge

Nigerian international left-back Elderson Echiejile has joined Belgian First Division B (second-tier) club Cercle Brugge until the end of the season after he cancelled his contract with Turkish Sivasspor Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) reports.

Cercle Brugge are owned by French side giants AS Monaco, the parent club of Echiejile.

Super Eagles regular Echiejile joined Sivasspor on a season-long loan deal from AS Monaco last summer but hardly featured for the team, making 10 appearances in all competitions (seven Turkish league games and three Turkish Cup games) in the first half of the season.

Echiejile has undergone a successful medical at Cercle Brugge and will be unveiled before the Belgian transfer window closes on Wednesday night, CSN gathered.

Cercle Brugge currently lead the Belgian First Division B second stage with 23 points from 10 games.

The 30-year-old defender had already played in Belgium in the 2016 season, when he was on loan from AS Monaco to Standard Liege.

Echiejile has also featured for Stade Rennes and SC Braga.

Kano pillars don't owe and they pay pretty well (Nigerian standard).

Players earning minimum of #150k monthly up to #600k monthly.

So why should a sane player leave to a club or country he's not sure of beating their "trials" or even making it in that league?

Arsenal Legend Wright Wants Iwobi To Join Aubameyang In Gunners’ Attack

Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, has suggested that Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi be one of the players who should line up alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in attack if he eventually joins the London club.

Aubameyang is reported to be on the verge of joining Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in a transfer fee believed to be in the neighbourhood of £60 million.

The Gabonese’s arrival would see the exit of Olivier Giroud who is wanted by Chelsea.
Apart from Iwobi, Wright says qMesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan should also join Aubameyang in the attacking setup for Arsenal.

Wright told the BBC: “I’m going to have Aubameyang, [Mesut] Ozil, probably at the moment [Alex] Iwobi, and [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan.”

Wright would go on to slam Arsenal for their decision to allow Giroud leave.

“Why would they sell him? It doesn’t make sense. It really would be like lose a tenner, find a fiver,” he queried
“So we’ve got [Alexandre] Lacazette and fingers crossed Aubameyang and no big guy on the bench.

“You are talking about bringing on Danny Welbeck, or if Lacazette’s not playing then him.

“We haven’t got that guy that’s proven off the bench to come on and score goals.”

Leon Balogun | Four years delayed but heading to Russia 2018

Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong are two Super Eagles nicknamed the ‘Oyibo’ Wall by fans of the Super Eagles because of their mixed races, and understanding and panache which they have brought to bear on the defence of the national team.

Both, barring any unforeseen circumstances will strut their stuff in the Eagles’ starting XI at the 2018 World Cup, scheduled to kick off in Russia on June 14.
Balogun sat down with Deuchewelle’s
Kres Harrington to discuss all things football, especially the World Cup.

When asked why Nigeria, Balogun said, “First of all, I have to say – in Germany, they have a lot of great footballers. By the time when I might have the chance to come into that team…there were a lot of players who were ahead of me,” he truthfully stated.

He revealed that some news reports in Nigeria brought him to the attention of the then Super Eagles manager, the late Stephen Keshi, who gave him a call.

“I picked up the phone – ‘Hello Balogun, do you know who this is? To which he replied no sir, who is this. Stephen Keshi, how are you my son and I was like, wow, it is about to go down.”

Balogun was subsequently called up for the friendly matches leading to the Brazil 2014 World Cup but in his very first match, against Mexico, he broke his foot.

“I was subbed in and I broke my foot after 20 minutes. That is why I missed the World Cup in 2014 and that is why it is now even more special,” he said.

Balogun will turn 30 in June and is also out of contract at Bundesliga side, Mainz.
When he was told he would be going up against Argentina’s Lionel Messi, he jokingly asked, “Who is that?”

“We as Nigerians – as the Super Eagles, we deserve this chance. It could have been different teams playing against us in our group but it is Argentina again though we just beat them without Messi.

“Nigeria has shown – I believe we were the first team who qualified from Africa, so we proved our great quality, especially as a team.”

Just like many observers have noted, Balogun revealed that the team spirit is very high and hopes they can replicate this in Russia, with which they would have a greater chance of making it to the second round.

With just months to the start of the Mundial, Balogun still believes it is all a dream.

“I still don’t believe this is happening. I mean it is getting closer but I will only realise once I am in Russia, preparing, probably walking into the stadium – the pitch, listening to the national anthem – realising now that the whole world is watching us.”

“Immediately we qualified against Zambia, I just broke down in tears because it meant so much to me. It is a childhood dream. This means I can really compete against the best,” Balogun exclaimed.

On a closing note, Balogun thinks the Super Eagles can be the surprise package in Russia. “We could be a big surprise.

“I think we have some attackers, some quality in our offense especially that most of the teams might not be aware of.

“So, I hope they are not going to get a wake-up call before we gonna wake them up in the game by which time it will be too late for them.”

The Super Eagles start their World Cup quest against Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium on June 16.
