Ai, hapana.

In other news, Kikuyu1, Mtis, TayserMahiri,

Did you know that cattle on the lake Victoria islands actually die because of DROUGHT? Heard it straight from someone who lost his.

That said, you guys need to study the Nile Treaties, a gift from our colonial masters.
They affect the entire network of the River Nile sources.

That place needs someone as brave as the Ethiopian Prime minister, willing and ready to do anything for the good of his people.

I am still bothered by the same question.

But it's a strange place. Hardy semi arid area with Acacia trees all over the place. I guess it's the same question with deserts that are right next to the ocean. That will never make sense to me.

Fintech startups from Kenya and Nigeria have been named amongst the 50 best emerging fintech companies in the world as part of the annual Fintech 100 report compiled by KPMG and H2 Ventures.

The Fintech 100 report offers an in-depth view of the most exciting tech-enabled financial services startups and organisations globally, with this year’s list featuring fintech companies from 29 countries.

It is divided in two, featuring the top 50 established fintech companies from around the world, and the best emerging 50 fintech startups. All three African companies are in the emerging section.

They include two Nigerian startups, namely payments company Flutterwave and financial management app Riby. Kenyan insurtech startup GrassRoots Bima also makes the list. South African startup Zoona make the previous version of the list.

Fintech is a sector on the rise in Africa, with Disrupt Africa’s recently released Finnovating for Africa report on the continent’s fintech startup scene tracking 301 startups active in the space.

Culled from Disrupt Africa.

No country in the great lakes region will respect the nile treaty anymore henceforth. I think the egyptos have enough problems in their hands for some time to come. Once Ethio completes the dam and have enough power they will quickly grow too strong for egypt to even have the guts to complain.

That's true,

But we're forgetting other people with "interests" in Egypt. The people who signed the treaties.

The rate of filling the dam will determine much of their subsequent approach. The Ethios just need to fill it slow and no one will complain. Most of those who signed the treaties might not be too interested right now given how much things have changed. Back then Egypt was a big shot in Africa compared to most African countries who were pretty much wastelands. There is not even much chance of conflict now. Egyptians have to go with the times o perish. They can start desalinating water from the Med and Red seas. I always wonder why Egyptians behave like its impossible to survive without the Nile when their neighbors like Libya and Algeria manage just fine. It means they're still doing stuff like they did them when Rameses was running the land. But if they insist going mental then Ethio has assured back up in the All-Time Awesome Republic of Kenya grin

Btw, saw a video by GN didnt know there so many Islands on Lake Victoria. There is an island called Usingo gee whizz ! And its true it looks dry as hell there's a clear aerial shot at 1:30. Its just incredible a place in the middle of a huge water mass can be so dry.

You sound like a this Nigerian here ... O something.

I, in future hope to find a Kikuyu native who can hear of or talk of the word Luo or Odinga and not get all worked up. I read somewhere that the hate comes from the colonialists using Luos as native policemen in Kikuyu land in those days. Get over it already! Gosh undecided

No! You claimed the reason there was no water in Luo Nyanza was due to colonial Nile treaties and I showed you since 2010 that hasn't been a factor-especially given Kisumu county wherein Nyakach lies has received 200mn+ $ since 2013!

Apparently Kikuyu people of central Kenya are one mixed lot. They are mixed mostly with their fellow bantus like masai, kamba ,meru ,taita among others but also with cushites an Nilotes like luos and kalenjins . Thats why its hard to pinpoint a true representative of a kikuyu. Some are tall while others are short. Others are also very dark while others are very light (Wazungu wa mt kenya grin)...Which brings to question that maybe Kikuyu1 has relatives from those areas he keeps on hating...You know it can happen cool

Very introspective post if i may say ...

Re: It's Time To Toss Out GDP - David Pilling (of The FT) by trillville(m)

The two most interesting parts to me in the article
1.

Imagine two people. Let’s call them Bill and Ben. Bill is a midranking investment banker who clears 500,000 pounds ($680,000) a year after tax. Ben is a gardener who takes home 25,000 pounds ($34,000). Who is better off?

If we judge them by income, then Bill is clearly richer; 20 times richer, to be precise. But who is wealthier? For that, you’re going to have to know more about their stock of assets and broader circumstances.

In national accounting terms, Bill’s 500,000-pound salary is the equivalent of gross domestic product. It is the “flow” of income earned in a year. But, as any mortgage lender knows, that doesn’t tell you anything about his wealth or his salary next year or the year after that.

Did I mention that Bill is up to his neck in debt after a crippling divorce, or that he has an expensive cocaine habit? He’s sold off most of his assets, including his vintage Harley-Davidsons. All he is left with is a costly mortgage and several payments on his (scratched-up) Porsche. At 59, he’s also washed up at work. In fact, he is about to be fired when the bank shifts its derivatives trading team from London to Frankfurt.

Ben, meanwhile, lives in the 100-million-pound country estate he inherited from his great-aunt. On the weekends, he potters about for fun in his own Versailles-inspired garden, paying himself a nominal salary.

This year, before he turns 21, he plans to sell the estate and move into a modest flat in Knightsbridge. He’ll invest the 95 million pounds he has left over and live off the interest while he completes his studies as a patent lawyer, a profession that should earn him a bit of pocket money in the years ahead.
NOW WHO LOOKS RICHER? BILL THE BANKER OR BEN THE GARDENER?

2.

In Africa, countries such as Nigeria have converted resources into consumption booms, but have largely failed to build the infrastructure or invest in the healthy, educated population that will sustain future growth.

Much of Africa, says Collier, has “dug itself up and chopped itself down, but didn’t build enough in its place. It’s not sustainable growth. It’s a fiction of the flow data.” It is a lesson that Bill, the indebted banker with limited future earning prospects, would have done well to take to heart.
