Who are the Corporate raiders in " corporate Nigeria". If the Institutional investors, insurance companies, pension fund managers, mutual fund managers etc had joined forces together and done the needful Wale and his goons who not have raped Oando and brought her to her knees. |

rebekah2011: Not really, i usually have my lunch in the one at Marina or Broad Street whenever I am in Lagos island, but the brand needs to be relaunched and repositioned. CAP plc and Portland paint plc should be merged, Grand cereals and oil and Livestock feeds should be merged. Grand cereals and oil is not quoted but it is highly profitable, making profit after tax in the region of billions. Stanbic IBTC can act as the financial adviser, these and many more were the suggestions I wanted to make at the AGM. 1 Like |

Chibuking81: In this price regulated environment for petrol, with subsidy and all the issues around it not being paid on time, i am still trying to understand how the advantage of increasing oil prices will play out. Eterna is a player in the downstream sector so i imagine the "lifting" in question is petrol. To start with, going from news item, only NNPC still find it attractive to import petrol to the country and distributes to others. This is because of the high cost and unwillingness by the majors or independents to import. If you take time to go through the financials of mrs, forte oil, conoil, the quarterly rev and profitability appear to be declining since oil prices started rising. Now i don't know if that corelation is real but it is worth testing. Having said that, i think Eterna still has some way to go in share price increase but for other "reasons" that i am still studying and trying to grasp, rather than increase in international crude oil prices. |

Nairaruky: Corporate raiders will make management to sit up, which will be to the benefits of retail investors on the long run. Those new guys at UACN most have been secretly buying those shares through multiple stock accounts and cross deals over the years. |

But Carlyle Group has been in Diamond bank since and I cannot see any difference. Nigerian Managers have found a way to pollute their foreign partners. That is even if the foreign guys are not crooks themselves. emmanuelewumi: 1 Like |

Tony Elumelu was a corporate raider, who preyed on UBA. Aig Imoukhuode tried it with Union Bank and later with Afribank but the management of the company were able to challenge the attack from Aig. Rather than using the resources of Union Bank and Afribank to turnaround the fortunes of the banks, management was using the resources to wade of attacks from corporate raiders. Where is Union Bank and Afribank as we speak, these were banks the used to belong to the elite group of the top 5 banks in Nigeria. The best and easiest way to wade off attacks from corporate raiders is to deliver superior returns to shareholders and investors. I need to read this book again" it is not the big that eats the small, but it is the fast that eats the slow". 1 Like |

rebekah2011: How long have them spent in the company? Have they spent up to 4 years in the company? How much did they buy the shares of Diamond bank? Are they foreign portfolio investors in company or foreign direct investors in the company? Are they represented on the board of Diamond bank? If they foreign portfolio investors, are you sure they have not secretly exited? Just asking. |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by emmanuelewumi(m): 5:30pm On Feb 02, 2018 |
pluto09: You need to know the difference between foreign portfolio investors and foreign direct investors. You also need to know the aims of the investors, and how long the investor wants to be fully invested in the company. |

There is limit to how foreigners can play in the banking sector in Nigeria. If they are setting up a new bank, no problem but if they are buying into existing banks, there are too many hurdles to cross emmanuelewumi: |

Agbalowomeri: Increase in crude oil price does not translates to increase in 'lifting' operations EXCEPT there is an increase in the quantity being produced. Again, it is good for people to understand how VALUE is created in the Companies they are buying so that they will know when they are being fed with cock and bull stories. |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by wanaj0: 6:22pm On Feb 02, 2018 |
Chibuking81: If you read the link you posted, you will notice that lifting contracts is such that there is a 'fixed margin' hence independent of Oil price. 2 Likes |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by wanaj0: 6:28pm On Feb 02, 2018 |
TLAX: You are correct. The majors are not doing as much business as before since they are only collecting PMS from NNPC to sell since only NNPC is importing. So they are left ONLY with marketers margin which is more or less fixed. That will impact the profitability of those oil marketing companies. Some of them are diverting or selling to the Independent marketers at 'higher' prices hence why in most towns you don't get fuel to buy at N145. Eterna Oil has an advantage in its lubricant business where it is in partnership with Castro |

wanaj0:Lifting contract for oil for now does not translate into profit for companies, unless the government increase the price of petroleum product officially. Even, NNPC has been incurring a lot of debt over this landing cost palaver for a while. As at last week, I learnt their account is in red to the tune of about N170bn. |

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Manonamission: 9:13pm On Feb 02, 2018 |
mendes911: Trouble maker! But really, their profit is derived from trade margins. The trade volume itself is fixed based on the allocation (in barrels of crude by day). This is simply just winning business which will increase top and bottom line but not as a result of flunctuation in crude price. Additional income stream for Eterna from trading margins not from production (Oando and Seplat benefit directly from high crude prices). Also we all should understand that there is a difference between Crude OIL and Petrol. 1 Like 1 Share |

ogedanny: You got your percentage calculation wrong in the Oceanic bank example. The right calculation is 540%. A look at the following example: If the share price of a stock you bought at N2 increases to N6. 6 - 2 = 4 4 / 2 = 2 Expressing in percentage terms: 2 x 100= 200% That the share price trippled doesn't equate 300%. rebekah2011: When there's no rule of law, you will see the bad side of people - no matter where they come from! The only deterrent to fraud and stealing of shareholders funds is when you have a truly independent press and an empowered institution that does their job without fear and interference from government. Do we have such institutions in Nigeria? Crooks will always setup office where they know they can get away with whatever they do and most Nigerian corporate managers are aggressively greedy/selfish they don't care about retail investors/shareholders. We are just fishing with greedy sharks hence must always be watchful! |
