About two I believe... Which he claimed with ease. I recall two well. And wait ooo... Alampasu did play against Togo shaa ooo.. But iit was not for long. Not even up to 45 mins. But I speak of watching him a few times in Portugal long before recent times (during the time of the WC qualifiers final round grouo stage which began in 2016) and I reckon he was pretty good especially aerially. He is also very good at shot-stopping. But like all young goalies he got some weaknesses he is still working on. See ehn... In the end... Na these upcoming friendlies go decide the final three. forgiveness: |

TheSuperNerd: What about the faulty clearance from Ikuowem that led to a goal, it is not only from which wing goal came from. Look at that missed clearance, Ikuowem was even in a wrong position. |

Icon4s: My point is that we could parade better players in this tournament than players like these who could not kick and control ball. My solution is to work with a larger pool the way we do in the best and from the large pool, select the best in every role. I can bet if we do that, lots of the players paraded here would not make the team. Whether the players come from the NPFL or not, is not my criteria. |

And Uzoho we shall see again and again... We got five friendlies lined up...so make una relax. Talk about now... Ajiboye is still weak on aerial balls.... How many he fumbled? Loolll... I will ask how many he even got to face... Just that one he got which was converted but later ruled out was superbly miscalculated. This is a trait even Ezenwa showed during the qualifiers against Algeria. Ajiboye is still weak aerially. I think your question is out to show he is not weak there abi? Anyway, I just know that Rohr will drop either of Ezenwa or Ajiboye.... And whether we like it or not, I think I can tell you who Rohr will drop. forgiveness: |

Icon4s: It must not be a thousand players but a few hundreds. If Amunike can do it for the U20, why can't Salisu do it? If he is not ready for the work, he should step down. That is why I said we should treat this tournament with more seriousness. |

That faulty clearance was the miskick naa... I already mentioned it. And I told you that the buildup all starred with Osas' excursion scheme again... He lazily allowed that ball to be whipped in, in the first place and Ikwuowem miskicked and viola, a goal... Goal came from Osas' wing leakage again just like the other goals did. Many bad moments for Osas... But few bad moments for Ikwuowem. That is the story. TheGoodJoe: |

TheGoodJoe: I am sure you know Salisu Yusuf was saddled with the responsibility of monitoring players in the league. That he has done for about a year now aside the fact that he has been a coach in the league for years. TheGoodJoe, you don't know the league and the players better than Salisu. Dont you even know he has a reputation to protect? He sees these players week in week out and so doesn't need to assemble a pool of hundreds of players before he can select his team. These people are professionals o. You watch football from the comfort of your living room. You don't know the selection process better than Salisu. Take that from me. 2 Likes |

I disagree. No average keeper will save that headed chance from Dario Benedetto. No average keeper will keep calm after being thrown in that manner on his debut in the second half with your team 2-0 down. No average keeper will keep that clean sheet. So I definitely disagree. It was not a spectacular showing but very decent from a 19-year-old. No average goalie will keep calm at the back and organise his defence to give his team a fighting chance of coming back from 2-0 down without conceeding another... That is the Truth. In all, like I already said... Let the upcoming friendlies decide. They are the final Pre-WC exams to determine the three. Kog45: 1 Like |

How? He was towards the left of Ajiboye's goal although closer to the centre... Do you know how many annoying times Osas was off-position? Mehn... You cannot use just one or two bad moments to label Ikwuowem the worst when Osas had "an all night long" of bad moments to enable us make a movie on bad moments..... TheGoodJoe: |

Some interesting comments: Truly speaking, this group of players cannot be said to be the best in our local league. Even though they were hurriedly selected, I see some nepotic and religious spicing in the list. How many players came from MFN, Ifeanyi Uba, Insurance etc. Last year Nigeria local based were carefully selected to Spain for a tour, I saw some of the great games they played against some Spanish club team, in fact they played quality football. TheSuperNerd: Ajiboye I suspiciously and closely monitored today only fumbled once aerially. He did perfectly well aerially and even made a save from one aerial ball. You can not see any flaws in that area. Ezenwa own is too obvious. |

Which Insurance? The one that has been stuck in Division Two? :roll:Who from MFM is missing from this team? Apart from Stephen Odey who is now overseas? Meanwhile, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Stephen Ezeh were at Ifeanyi Ubah when they were called up for the team. We should always be ready for introspection when we lose. That's the only real 'benefit' of losing (to review, learn, correct and do better next time), but sadly in Nigeria the instinct is almost always to go to the DARK and BASE place - ethnicity, religion, etc. Unfortunately, because we miss the real problems (and chase shadows) we keep repeating our mistakes. TheSuperNerd:I don hear you o cos have watched the match over and over again and if any of those chances score any keeper then that keeper is damn poor. Kudos to him for being calmed all through the 45 minutes against Argentina especially on his debut which Akpeyi cannot do. |

Egbon Forgiveness... If you call those unchallenged simple punches "aerial" then I wonder... And that one he saved in the second half too where he was obstructed by Eze I think was not aerial shaa ooo. The ball was midlevel and Ajiboye punched it... And I do see flaws... I know you are trying to say Ajiboye is strong aerially but the reality is that he is not. Ezenwa too is not. Both are on the same level aerially.... >>>>>>not good enough. forgiveness: |

TheGoodJoe: That is a personal opinion. And yes the team that went to Spain played better football than this team just also like the last two CHAN teams played better football. But a lot of those players have left the local league. These are the ones around now. The league cannot simply give what it does not have. That is my point. And if you know any player that deserved to be in this team but was left out please mention the name and let's discuss it. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:37am On Feb 05, 2018 |
It's not quite as simple as that.First, player selection comes from proper scouting. The coach takes some of the blame here, but we clearly need a better mechanism for scouting players. Any time we build teams form home this is usually an issue, so it goes beyond any particular coach. Secondly, any coach needs time to build a team. There was never any real programme for this team. Rather, the coach scrambled together a side any time the team was needed. I know that finances have been a challenge, but we can do better.Thirdly, there will always be a transient nature to the home based side, because it's a stepping stone to players leaving for greener pastures. Imagine how much stronger this team would have been with the likes of Stephen Odey, Alhassan Ibrahim and others who left the team in tow. Good players will always leave the team and good players will always leave the NPFL. So devising a means of coping with that is paramount. Lastly, the Nigerian League standard is not where it needs to be. You can say that the coaches should have brought this player or that player, but a majority of the players on this team are well regarded in the NPFL. If the league standard was where it should be this selection would have sufficed to give us a good team. Losses like this are meant to give us lessons, and I hope that this will spur the NFF and the LMC to redouble their efforts in improving the league. So this should not be about the usual fire brigade stuff that we tend to pull (sacking Yusuf would be fire brigade). Rather, we need to take the proper lessons from this and move on... By Mystic Interesting comment but he is stating the problem. The question is, what is the solution to the massive exodus of quality players from the Pro League? Spread the net to a larger pool of players and do a thorough screening process than relying on scouting a league that has an exodus of quality players problem. 1 Like |

You see why you should be careful what you say..? Several players in that squad have migrated outside Nigeria, and aren't eligible (Nwobodo, Egbuchulam, etc)People here on CE are shellacking the domestic league, but forget NPFL has a peculiar problem:NPFL loses the best players at the end of every season; that means NPFL sheds quality annually. That loss of quality must surely affect Nigeria's player-pool for a tournament like CHAN.This current CHAN squad isn't a true reflection of the best in the NPFL: some key players from last season have emigrated & are not eligible...by Father Tiko 1 Like |

And I suppose that simple basic punch unchallenged which came straight right at him is counted as an aerial threat? Na wa.... Plsss lok at that one that came from the wings abi na cronerkick again which resulted in a goal which was ruled out... What was Ajiboye thinking? That is the kind of Aerial threat I speak of... Not ones going right straight at him into his palms. I speak of aerials from the wings or sides... TheGoodJoe: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:46am On Feb 05, 2018 |
From the debate, the problem remains poor pool of players and the fact that the drain will continue. So I find it difficult to believe that scouting a poor pool will provide a strong squad. I disagree. So, as long as the drain continues, we need to adopt an innovative strategy to combat this challenge. My suggestion remains increasing the pool of players, camping them, screening and selecting the best. I do not see a better solution. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:51am On Feb 05, 2018 |
TheSuperNerd: It is an aerial threat and he chose the right option by dealing with it with a punch. The one you are talking about was the one that went off field but his approach was wrong. Another came that was nodded away from goal. However, keepers limited in height should opt for dealing with aerial threats with power punches than going for a catch. By the way, the one he punched came from the side. It was not direct. 1 Like |
