HRprof:only sure of males. Some self employed ladies are being asked "What university do u go" sometimes. And a lady here(Nairalander) was being asked "what Course do u study" when she is currently an accountant in a private firm. Her response was "Business administration" but told V.O she had professional cert on account. The V.O no won hear again oooo. Be prepared for flashbacks on Edu. Is it related to your current job? . Some school+Job contradicts themselves |

dubolog: "Sometimes"? Guy, can't you see everybody - both gurus and most of us learners - here see this as tosh? It is not going to gain traction/prominence, no matter how hard you try. Sounding like a broken record now, please! This "professional/educational" thingy you are going on about is only an assumption in your personal thinking.... Medical doctors, top rated engineers, lawyers, etc are getting REFUSED daily despite even working in their field of study, even for years, with family and travel history sef oh. Abeg, diswan no follow jare! 6 Likes 1 Share |

iRyan: Yeah that's if after the interview, they are sure they will need his service. Some organization just don't want to put so much resources all to find out the candidate doesn't have the capacity to perform. So in this instance, the org don't have to incure any financial commitment. |

frickyjohn: When you go through the transcript of uchboggy below it will help you take a better decision Uchboggy: My Experience at two USA embassies (Abuja and Oslo) I currently reside in Norway but booked a USA visa appointment for Abuja in December since I was traveling home for the Christmas holiday. I didn’t know I was making a very big mistake.below is a summary of my experience at the embassy of USA in Abuja and then in Oslo. I must say that USA sees Nigerians as criminals. Miles away before you get to Abuja Embassy you’ll see all sorts of armors ,a crowd of security personnel like they are expecting a war. they checked us almost 5 times before we got to the real interview. Yet they still denied more than 90 % (including me ) While in this place (Oslo) you won’t even see a human being until you are close enough to touch the entrance door. And the one person you see isn’t armed (even a knife). Yet they approved more than 90% of visas including mine. In Nigerian the consulars are hostile and behaving like they are giving you the key to heaven while here in Oslo they would even assist you to make sure you get the Visa. I can’t just explain enough. I didn’t even say one tenth of what I said in Abuja yet it was approved. Below is the most hilarious part of my experience in Abuja. I spent more than an hour trying to prove to the consular that my norway Visa and resident permit were legit. There was no method I didn’t use. He first took me to a special investigation room, asked me to tell him about norway and where I resides in Norway, the name of the airport in Oslo, how much a bottle of beer costs, the name of my school and the location of the different campuses, asked me to show him some of my results, my Norwegian bank card,my school ID, asked for my school email,he went as far as asking the security people to escort me outside to get my phone so he would see pictures I took in norway, he checked the plate numbers of the cars in the pictures to confirm if they were norway number plate, he went further to send a mail to my school email and asked me to reply. In fact there was no other way I didn’t prove beyond doubt that I resides in Norway. You wouldn’t believe I was still denied after all.(I was later granted when I reapplied in Oslo in January when I returned from Nigeria) Later, after I was granted in Oslo I understood the plight of the guys in Abuja. They must have been wondering why someone who would be granted USA Visa almost automatically in Oslo come down to Nigeria to apply for a Visa. The moral of the story is that you stand a better chance of getting a USA Visa from outside Nigeria than in Nigeria. Please if you’re a tourist/Traveler or aspiring tourist or you just like travel stories please follow this new tourism thread. Lest share our stories and experiences in different cities of the world. Let’s show them that Nigerians travel too! https://www.nairaland.com/4328301/tourists-travelers-let-meet-here 6 Likes |

So.....i should have posted this since November 2017 but sorry i am posting it now. Before going for my visa interview in November, i read this thread like i was preparing for an exam and i must say it was very useful so i guess i have to share mine. Big thank you to all the gurus in the house. As a background, i am single (widowed actually), i have a child (I was not required to fill any info about him in my visa application and i still don't understand why), I just changed my job when i applied and i was going for a 1 week training in a university. My only travel history is UAE (honeymoon) and an African country (work related). Almost everyone before me (over 15) was denied except a young lady seeking a student visa (her application was on hold as the VO told her they would verify the bank statement she presented), so i was afraid. That morning made sure i was well dressed. Sharp suit, crisp shirt but i did not wear a tie so as not to overdress. The VO was an African American lady. My interview transcript. Me: Good morning VO: Can I have your passport (passed my passport) VO: Where are you going Me: xxxx university VO: DC? Me: Yes, Washington DC VO: What are you travelling for? Me: For xxxxx training VO: What is the training about Me: I explained VO: How long are you staying: Me: 8 days VO: What do you do? Me: I work as xxxx in xxxx consulting firm VO: What does your firm do? Me: *surprised at the question* i answered CONSULTING VO: Obviously, what consulting? Me: HR, Finance, Tech (i sha mention all the areas we consult in) VO: Who are your clients? Me: I start to mention name of clients and she cuts in..... VO: I mean your own clients that you work on (she probably assumed i was a consultant or she was testing me as i already mentioned my role which is not a consulting role) Me: I am not a consultant. I am xxxxx in the firm VO: How long have you worked there? Me: I just joined x months ago BUT i had worked in xxxxx Limited for almost 10 years before joining. VO: Who is paying for the trip? Me: My firm VO: Who is your MD ( i guess she googled my company's name) Me: Mentions the name of the md (i think the name i mentioned was not what came up in the search) VO: Who is your chairman? Me: Mentions name (at that point i knew she was checking google...cos the chaiman's name was what she wanted to hear) VO: Have you travelled before: Me: Yes. UAE for my honeymoon and Ghana for work. VO: Do you have any family in the US? Me: Nope VO: Do you have any friend? Me: Without thinking....i answered NO. (after saying NO, i remembered i had some friends in the US. I wanted to raise that but i sha kept quite) VO: After what seemed like a long typing on her keyboard....she says....your visa is approved....bla bla bla.....i was not hearing anything again. Me: Thank you.....with a smile. No documents checked, no questions about my child or marital status. I collected my white paper and bounced out like a star. This was my first attempt at getting a US visa. I had tried Canada for a conference about 5 years ago but was denied on the basis of no travel history. 2 Likes |

frickyjohn: Like someone already mentioned, there is only one advise . If you’re entered UAE legally please apply for the visa from there. I am advising you from experience so you don’t waste your hard earned money. |

AbuchiDavid: Assess your ties objectively. Think like a VO. Why do you need to fly all the way for research when there’s Google. You have no ties and you aren’t sponsoring your trip. Publishing contracts can be signed and couriered so there’s no guarantee you’ll return. If you want to waste your 64k, try your luck. But this ‘packaging’ is obvious and won’t fly 1 Like |

Re: USA Visit Visa Part 3 by seyewest(m): 8:22pm On Feb 06, 2018 |
dubolog: You keep talking about education as if it's the most important ''ties''... No matter how much you twist it.. V.O will not ask about the school you attended unless it's necessary unlike ''what you do for a living, how much you earn, martial status and purpose of travel'' Please let this school matter rest and let people face the real fact on what they will actually need to get a U.S visa. Thank you. 4 Likes |

AbuchiDavid:The V.O will not issue you a visa if you're not sponsoring your trip no matter what, as an adult except in exceptional case... the only thing you can do is make the publisher sponsor your trip and how much do you make monthly and lastly what's your travel history/martial status? |
