tbaba1234: I played football with Amuneke in Sari-Iganmu, Lagos. He was about 4 years my senior in Secondary School. What about that? And of course in school, a class 1 student would never dare to come close to Class 5 students let alone to play football with them. But Emma and I lived on the same streer. So we played in the same team whenever we played inter-street football. I was this kind of big kid for my age while Emma was the small type. So when you looked at us aside the slight height difference, the other major difference was the little beards on his face and muscle build. Did I also mention that I played U12 in Ajegunle with Taribo West? Modified: I made the Ajegunle U12 team. Hahaha, I was that good. Ajegunle, was the home of football in Nigeria. The Maracana stadium was our slaughter ground. 6 Likes |

Icon4s:I just don't know all these fuss about age especially when it comes to Nigeria players. My son is 8 years old by April clocks 9 but too tall for his age and played football conveniently with 10-14 years old, play basketball with ease with state U 12 team and one of the best 100 meter runner in U 12 category. I remember in my year three in secondary school am already a member of school team and some of my seniors are 3-6 years older than me. 3 Likes |

Kog45: Yeah, some times it happens like that. Remember a certain Peter Ogaba(RIP)? That dude played U17 at 13 and U21 at 15. And yet competed well. Some kids are just like that. Though those are just some exceptional cases. 1 Like |

Kog45: You make an important point, size... A big 8 year old might be able to compete with bigger boys but that is the exception not the rule. The average or small size might not be able to |

Icon4s:I saw Peter Ogaba in Ilorin at that time and was like what, this bros is small o with oyibo nose and see how fans gathered to look at him I saw a very young Austin Ejide keeping for Gabros against Kwara United the following week a call to national team by Onigbinde, just too young and tall I keep on telling people a friend with real age almost made Japan 93 squad but dropped at the last minute for equally extremely young Celestine Babayaro. James Obiorah was dropped from Japan 93 cos he was just too small, the same year he was recommended for Kwara bomber trial, honestly it took the intervention of teeming fans before he was signed cos of his age and he later turned out as the best player in that season I have some friends that were able to make local league when they are just 17-18 years of age, some barely after secondary school. I remember how Osaze Odewengie made his debut for Bendel Insurance in a friendly came in the second half, that month he got national team invitation and was stand by player to 2002 WC. We still have some of them young here in NPFL and how i wish next CHAN should not be about experience but real talents cos i know we have some extremely good midfielders in the league that are better than Rabiu Ali. |

Icon4s:Yes just trying to buttress your point on age difference between you and Amuneke and how you played together meaning is possible Mikel and Onazi to play normal street football cos have seen a Father and son played community cup together, area football doesn't respect age. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by somehow: 7:16am On Feb 07, 2018 |
Are we saying the previous generation of eagles and some of the current ones who started at home didn't slice their ages? Even if it's 2 year reduction? Especially those who started from the NPFL? Not that it's peculiar to us alone and not just an African thing but need to know if some of us actually believe M...., O...., M..., E...... etc are actually the ages they claim to be on their bio. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Kog45(m): 7:38am On Feb 07, 2018 |
somehow:Well i can't dispute your comments cos even in civil service in Nigeria people uses court affidavits to back up their age not to talk of footballers. But we still have some who are true to their age,one thing that i noticed about age falsification is this,if a player find it difficult to have a break through early, definitely he would falsified his age to meet up. I have a friend who used his real age to play local league due to his international passport cos he cannot do anything about it.He was a member of bound Japan 93 squad but later dropped but then he was in secondary school, immediately after secondary school he teamed up with Kwara bomber. I remember a certain Iwuanyanwu player couldn't recalled his name who was called to U 21 and said he is 22 years that he cannot represent Nigeria cos he has represented Nigeria in some international youth tourney in Sweden and Finland as a secondary school boy. |

Kog45:I'm enjoying your comment, cos they are some doubting Thomas that never believe a Nigerian can play football using their real age. because they falsify their age, they believe everyone does same. 3 Likes |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 7:50am On Feb 07, 2018 |
somehow: I think there are some that are playing with their real ages but age reduction is widespread. I think a player like Mikel is playing with his real age or close to it because he can still play at a high level today. Years back, i knew a 23 year old who quit university to go to malaysia to play football as a 17 year old. I don't even know where he is now. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Kog45(m): 7:54am On Feb 07, 2018 |
zicky:Yes people would doubt cos if a player spent 5 years in Nigeria league and still claiming U 20 but we have truly young ones and they are the one who spent just a season or two in Nigeria league before moving to Europe. |

Kog45: Your last paragraph has been what Tbaba1234 and I have been saying all along. Talking about age. I know a good number of players that used their real age in football. Top on that list is my mentor: Emmanuel Amuneke. For the records, he graduated from Secondary school in 1989 (Cardoso High School, Badia-Ijora). He is my eldest brother's mate who graduated in 1988. Emma could not have been more than 18/19 when he left secondary school in 1989( people dey old for school those days). In 1991(2 years after leaving secondary school) he made his debut for our U23 team at the Cairo '91 AAG. Emma was born in 1970, meaning he was 21 in 1991. That was his real age. Talking about Peter Ogaba. That guy was really small. He really encouraged most of we young players who were close to his age then. We bare the same first name (Peter). And I was nicknamed "Ogaba". A name that followed me till I finished secondary school. Some old friends still call me that name on Facebook. Hahaha. That boy was really small. One of Emma's siblings by name Kingsley featured at the 1995 U17 WC. Same year he finished secondary school. Another indicator of real age. 3 Likes |

Do you know players currently playing for us that are of true age? Talking those who started here. Though the new breeds are getting it done the right way, thanks to this current NFF, but it takes time for an habit to die zicky: |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 9:03am On Feb 07, 2018 |
Kog45: You sabi Ijora- Badia? If yes then you must know Gaskiya and Cardoso. These two schools have produced 4 Super Eagles players. Cardoso 3, Gaskiya 1. Amuneke and Siasia two of them. That place be like football academy. Plus the whole Ajegunle as a whole then in the 80s and 90s. |

somehow:I would use may be cos i don't know them as a person but i can tell you that Taiwo Awoniyi is using his true age cos i know him very well.He is like a son to me,just cos of him i watched all our U 17 matches live in UAE though not a member of this present team. The list Mikel Obi..i saw Mikel Obi and Chinedu Obazi prior to 2003 U 17 WC it was during their training tour in Ilorin and what got me attracted to them was their fine boy face and skills on the ball, after training i had a chat with them and bought coke and told them they should keep on working hard, these two guys are damn young then,i cannot fault their age. Iheanacho,Success,Uzoho and Alampasu...i met these young chaps through Awoniyi in UAE,honestly i can fault their ages. Awaziem look damn real with his age cos he is growing not static. Shehu Abdullahi too cos he is growing everyday Ndidi Wifred though failed MRI but certain US born failed it too but his age look real Mikel Agu looking at his age tells me something that the boy is real 2 Likes |

Icon4s:Yes i know of Siasia but i thought he went to st Finbars with the likes of Keshi and Henry Nwosu. Bros that your area is real home of grassroots football. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 9:41am On Feb 07, 2018 |
Kog45: No o, Samson Siasia attended Gaskiya college. He graduated around 1982/83 St Finbars and St Greg's were highly feared all through Lagos then. But my school Cardoso high school won the 1989 Principal Cup beating those schools to it. Another good school was Araromi secondary school. Emma Amuneke was a stand out player from that 1989 tournament. He moved to Concord FC few months after that. A good number of our youth players then were picked from the principal cup for secondary schools and YouthSFON 3 Likes |
