Oluyemi Oluleke "Yemi" Osinbajo (born 8 March 1957) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who is the current Vice President of Nigeria, in office since 29 May 2015. He is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria,Professor of Law and until his inauguration as Vice President, a Senior Partner with SimmonsCooper Partners, a commercial law practice.

Yemi Osinbajo was educated at Corona primary School, in Lagos. Between 1969–1975, he attended Igbobi College Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria.[4] From 1975–1978, he studied for his undergraduate degree in Law at the University of Lagos, where he was awarded a LLB Law degree. From 1979–1980 he attended Nigerian Law School. In 1981, he was awarded a Master of Laws after attending the London School of Economics.

Legal career Edit

From 1979–1980, Osinbajo served the compulsory one year youth service as a legal officer with Bendel Development and Planning Authority (BDPA), Bendel state.

In 1981, he was employed as a law lecturer at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. From 1983 to 1986, he was Senior lecturer of Law at the University of Lagos. From 1988 to 1992, he was an Adviser (legal advice and litigation) to the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Bola Ajibola. Osinbajo began lecturing at the age of 23.[5]

From 1997 to 1999 he was made Professor of Law and Head of Department of Public Law, University of Lagos. From 1999 to 2007, Osinbajo was Member of Cabinet, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, also Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

From 2007 to 2013 Osinbajo was once again employed as a Professor of Law, Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos. In 2007, Osinbajo was made Senior Partner, Simmons Cooper Partners (Barristers and Solicitors), Nigeria.[6] Osinbajo was also a Senior lecturer at the Lagos State University.

Other past roles include:

Staff Member, United Nations Operations in Somalia, Justice Division, UNOSOM II.
Member, United Nations Secretary General’s Committee of Experts on Conduct and Discipline of UN, Peacekeeping Personnel around the globe, Member, 2006.
Partner in Law Firm of Osinbajo, Kukoyi & Adokpaye.
Senior lecturer at faculty of law, Lagos State University Lecturing public law.

After the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, Yemi was tasked, with other notable Nigerians, to design and produce a manifesto for the new political party. This culminated in the presentation of the "Roadmap to a New Nigeria", a document published by APC as its manifesto if elected to power. The highlights of the Roadmap included a free schools meal plan, a conditional cash transfer to the 25 million poorest Nigerians if they enroll children in school and immunise them. There were also a number of programs designed to create economic opportunities for Nigeria's massive youth population.[8]

On 17 December 2014 the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, retired General Muhammadu Buhari, announced Osinbajo as his running mate and vice-presidential candidate for the 2015 general elections.[9][10][11][12]

On 31 March 2015 Buhari was confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the presidential elections. Thus Osinbajo became the Vice President-elect of Nigeria. They were both sworn in on 29 May 2015.

Vice President Edit
Yemi Osinbajo assumed office after taking the oath of office on 29 May 2015 at the Eagle Square, Abuja. As the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he is expected to oversee the economic planning team and report, as well as make recommendations, to the president who takes the final decision. Because of his legal background and antecedents as a commissioner for justice in Lagos state for eight years, many expect that he will contribute a great deal to the much needed reform of the judicial system at the national level. During the 2014/2015 campaigns of the All progressives Congress, Yemi Osinbajo held numerous town hall meetings across the country as against the popular rallies that many Nigerians and their politicians were used to. One of his campaign promises, which he has recently reiterated, was the plan to feed a school child a meal per day. Beyond feeding the school children, he has recently emphasized that this plan will create jobs (another campaign promise) for those who will make it happen.[13]

Donald Duke (born 30 September 1961 in Calabar) was the Governor of Cross River State, Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. His father, a great fan of Walt Disney, Henry Etim Duke is the second indigenous (after Ayodele Diyan) and longest ever serving Comptroller General (then referred to as Chairman board of Customs and excise duties)[1]of the Nigeria Customs service. He received LLB degree in 1982 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria - Nigeria, the B.L in 1983 from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and the L.L.M. in Business Law and Admiralty in 1984 from University of Pennsylvania.[2]

Spearheading the incumbent debt of Nigeria, Duke pushed for democracy and against military control. He stated; "What got the military out of power was not democracy but the dreadful state of the economy. If we, the democratic government, cannot deliver food for the mass of people we can forget about democracy."[3]

Duke has been praised for his contributions to the fields of agriculture, urban development, government, environment, information and communication, investment drive, and tourism. Through his work Calabar is seen as the "cleanest city in Nigeria."[citation needed][4]

He created the idea of the Obudu Ranch International Mountain Race and the race grew to become one of the most lucrative mountain running competitions in the world under his stewardship.[5][6] In 2005, he created a special reserve fund for the state meant to ‘‘hedge against economic downturn, and the inevitable rainy day’’. This was meant to cushion the effect of unforeseeable economic challenges that may occasion uncertainty in the state's Internally generated revenue, as well as monthly allocation from the federal government.[7]

He gave Cross River State a legacy with the Calabar Carnival which he started in 2004 and which is called "Africa's biggest street party." [8]

Donald Duke initiated the Tinapa Resort project as a way to boost business and tourism in the state. Over $350 million was spent on initial development before phase 1 opening in April 2007.[9] The BBC reported in September 2006 that Governor Duke was the only governor specifically mentioned as not being under investigation by the federal Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Four other governors were also reported as not under investigation but their names were not released.)[10]

Donald Duke announced that he would run for president in the 2007 presidential election, but stepped aside in favour of the eventual winner, Umaru Yar'Adua.

He is part of the coalition for Nigeria movement, a political movement to address the failings of the ruling APC.[11]

What type of nonsense combination is this, Osinbajo needs repentance and not reelection and you are here talking about one "yes man" who is willing to chop shit just to be counted loyal to Buhari. Osinbajo can NEVER be a good President, I know his type so stop this nonsense and read up Yinka Odumakin sincere letter to Osinbajo. As for your Donald Duke, cheesy grin being a good and proactive President has nothing to do with fine face and smooth name

because Yinka Odumakin is a saint na, so everything he says is true. i don’t understand what you people are expecting from osinbajo. for petes sake he is a vice president and his job is to oversee affairs on the president request. You want him to give speech that would cause an uproar or he should go and fight people killing with his bare hands abi, he is a leader and he needs to act like one. that doesnt for any reason undermined his credibility moreover he is in that position for a reason and representing the whole south west. So think again

How do you think the Northerners are going to accept two Southern Christians as President and vice? They will never accept that.

The North is not interested in Nigeria moving foward, they only care about being in power.

Thats why it wont matter how incompetent or bad Buhari's administeration is, the entire core North will vote for him.

You are clearly put of the loop on grey matters Odumankin was addressing concerning Osinbajo so I will forgive your ignorance. Try to go back and read that letter again but this time around read it slowly and meditatively!

Brother, please change this orientation of voting for anyone as long as is not Buhari, this is the same mistake most of us did while Jonathan was the president, we were only after removal of Jonathan.

This time, we should not just vote for anyone but the right and well qualified person
