Hello everyone, firstly am happy I found this thread, and I think I can still make things right by the grace of God. We paid Canreach a sum of 650k last year, one Sushma called to inform us that we were eligible to come into Canada, they didn't inform us that we were meant to write the exams before paying, We wrote the Ielts Examination my score as the spouse was ok but that of my husband was not,so he rewrote unluckily he didn't score a high band either. The painful thing is that we already paid, afterwards they became to reluctant in replying to mails, even when we call thier customer care lines they dnt pick. The Sushma said she no longer works for them when we called. My question now is,is it possible we end the contract with Canreach and start all over again. Based on the things have read here I can see they are scam and I dnt want anyone to fall victim again. We have already created a Wes account and also worked on our transcript. Pls I need guide 2 Likes |

Fusion23: One of the areas I am strongly considering is Nepean and Hunt Club as maternal recently suggested. Hunt Club sounds very interesting as my children are all very serious golfers ( in fact on some good days they decide they want to be pro golfers) don't know if I will be able to afford golfing for them over there but where there is a will there is a way ( even if it is for them to work as caddies). Kanata I hear far oh! No plans of buying a car immediately oh! The rents are quite pricey too. Gatineau from my little research is good for a young family ( as your children will not have problem with French, in fact, a second language is an advantage for pre school kids). So please were your goose bumps the good or bad ones with regards to Nepean and Hunts Club? Thank you so much for all your assistance. 1 Like 1 Share |

Fusion23: Unfortunately I don't play golf. Will really look at Nepean, there are some good catholic schools there that have golf teams and of course football (soccer) teams. Thank you so much. |

babypipsy: Hi, in addition to your course and job hunting efforts, you could consider joining CRIEC right there in Calgary and go for their mentorship programme. I know a number of people who got jobs in Calgary based on the networking opportunities and through the efforts of their mentors. You lose nothing by giving it a shot, https://www.criec.ca/ 22 Likes 13 Shares |

Blackbuddy: We have the Toronto version called TRIEC. I got matched with a mentor not long ago. It's been an experience. I am hopeful that the programme will be beneficial to me. In our introductory meeting, i met some naija people who were also matched the same time with me. One person said *** had to go physically to TRIEC office to get matched. Some said they wanted to be matched with elderly immigrants who had walked their path and now have their network of friends for them to tap their experience from. You really have little control over who you are matched with. If you are in Toronto and surburbs and not yet matched, be on your TRIEC coach and if possible visit the TRIEC office to get matched. 13 Likes 7 Shares |

czaratwork: So nice to hear you had a pleasant experience with TRIEC, to think that I happen to be a registered mentor with both TRIEC and ACCES. It's my little way of helping others climb up the ladder. Though I'm not able to select the mentees assigned to me from the pool but I remain open to sharing the info I have concerning entry-way into banking especially for those who have Audit, Internal Control and Investigation background. The mentoring support I received while I was a mentee validated the networking strategy I had started on before I left Nigeria and helped to guide my job hunting efforts. Networking and mentorship opens doors here if applied appropriately. 20 Likes 4 Shares |

Blackbuddy: It is still ongoing. My mentor is a full blown Canadian who told me frankly that he may not inderstand what immigrants go through to get integrated into the system but he will link me up with naija immigrants who will share their stories. Infact he introduced me to a naija colleague of his whom will have a 30 minutes talking session with me just to share his experiences in our next meeting. It is really an interesting experience. I could feel the excitement the mentors on my table had during our introductory meeting.(First time mentors though). 1 Like 1 Share |

babypipsy: Do you have experience , even thou not in Canada. IT field is in demand here and Canadian experience not a big factor they just want skills and experience... Is your CV on point..then LinkedIn and Monster.ca is enough ... Good CV and LinkedIn also helps.. and is it just Calgary you have in mind 1 Like |

How is life in Edmonton? Generally, I mean. There are some reviews I saw online and they are really depressing? Don't know if the reviews are by some controversial people or it's just conspiracy. Here: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Edmonton Fusion23: |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by winter(f): 3:34pm On Feb 07, 2018 |
@Fusion23 Pls what areas of Edmonton would you consider safe and family friendly? Not so busy yet not so quiet? With a supermarket, hospital nearby... How is the transit system? Do you have any clues on "work from home jobs"? I am still on self maternity leave. We will be landing next month with a newborn by God's grace. Fusion23: 3 Likes |

winter: Cant really say have not been here up to 2 months sef, for me am single and its about the job so its downtown..its really nice around jasper. avenue Not also sure of work from home , but you can search online... Edmonton has an LRT for trains and a good bus system..but its rough compared to Ottawa ..rough as in lots of walking from bus or station to your house..so living near a station or bus is better. I think Canada is generally safe..may be you need extra precautions. but dont worry too much on safety All the best 11 Likes 2 Shares |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by Fusion23: 6:48pm On Feb 07, 2018 |
HTC2017: Again lots of things are subjective..it depends on what you make of it..Edmonton is very ok . depends on your job..so job comes first over location , if you have a family another point to consider...its all about the oppurtunities so be open minided...for me i prefer edmonton because the job is better...People move from Toronto to saskatchewan cos of $$$$ Your standard of living depends a lot on income , then may be social life after.....firneds , girlfriends , family etc..cos earning a lot anf being lonely doesnt help either... The whole idea is that canada is not like Naija where Ekiti or Nassarawa is far from Lagos and Abuja in terms of Development 8 Likes 1 Share |

Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by Beeea: 11:30pm On Feb 07, 2018 |
winter: Personally, I would consider transit time to work in choosing where to live. The LRT runs north to south from Clareview to Century Park so if you work downtown or along that route, I would consider somewhere close to LRT stations. I am kind of hesitant to mention any particular area as there is this debate about the north end of the city versus the south being the best, but my advice is find what works for you and your family. There is the North East, north west, Southeast, southwest and downtown. For shopping, you should be able to find stores or strip malls within 15 minutes from anywhere if you live in the north. I'm not sure about the south. For hospitals, when sick, people generally visit family doctors who have offices all over the place, sometimes only about 5 minutes drive from each other and only go to the emergency room for emergencies. Hospitals are usually for 'serious cases'. 5 Likes |

Beeea:@Winter For folks that are single with a job downtown, it makes sense to live downtown Edmonton. However, I will not recommend downtown Edmonton for families. Just as Beeea said, there are typically grocery stores and parks close to most subdivisions. For someone coming into Edmonton (less mobile), it might make sense to live a few blocks from the Clairview (North) - Century Park (South) LRT. Homes in the North are generally cheaper than the South; although, the South is preferred to the North, there are good neighborhoods all around. In my opinion, it really comes down to preference and lifestyle. I hope this helps. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

Canadianfly:I think the more appropriate term is Semi-Monthly = two times a month. Organizations typically pay employees weekly (52 times a year), bi-weekly (26 times a year), semi-monthly (24 times a year) or monthly (12 times a year). These are common practices. |
