Rubbiish:The pics posted by Egunmogaji say its all. Your roof beam is suppose to be a replica of your floor beam. The importance is to make your roof load transferred to the foundation via structural members. Thereby making the block work to serve as partitioning member only. 1 Like 1 Share |

EgunMogaji: In German, it is called "poren Beton" (porous concrete blocks) and the best brand is YTONG. I did post about it some years back on one of Spyder's projects. It's very light but has almost the strength of Concrete. During the production process, Aluminium Oxide is added with reacts to create the pores, You can read up on it. Some residential homes in Germany are constructed using the blocks 1 Like

Rubbiish: I don't think there's any solution to that. There's just no water. Where I stayed in Abia, we didn't have water too so the village people construct underground water bunkers that save water during the rainy season and it lasts them all through the dry season. 2 Likes |

tobbyboy2011: Yes it is. I just think you should have added wire mesh to your foundation since the span is quite much and you're doing a storey building. Would have cost you less than 150,000. It's very good to prevent cracking. Somnething like this.. Also, your starter columns are too too short. It should have Minimum of 600mm lap length. 1 Like

mufutau55: Hahahahaha, Otunba Hajj, that's no foam blocks ooo. The cement used is applied very thinly, but very strong. See attached pictures. Besides, the blocks have matching (mirrored) grooves, which allows for perfect fitting

chidexy: Thank you very much. The video and pics explained it in details. I wish we can have all this materials in Nigeria o. See how easy the decking work was. Blocks being cut like bread with no waste or broken pieces discarded. God save us in Nigeria. This is good materials. Thanks. @EgunMogaji - Thanks for the useful video. Hajji M. 1 Like |

ceelog: I think you misunderstood me. Everyone knows the price per ton of it. Just factor in everything and the topping goes to the supplier. The only areas I know where 270k is quoted for 30tons are Rivers State and Bayelsa. I would very much like to know which other areas goes for that price within the East or West. 1 Like |

InvertedHammer: Good day Sir When you say price close to the North, please what's the price up North? I have bought 10 tyres tipper fully loaded in Keffi-Nassarawa State for no more than 80k and can't remember the price for same in Makurdi-Benue State but the difference between both is not far fetched. And I know the quantity difference between the 10 and 16 tyre trucks is between 8-10 tons and that varies from truck to truck given the size of bucket(s) for trucks and expected quantity to carry. 1 Like |

oyb: I do not think doing that will prevent settlement entirely. Every soil type comes with a recommended foundation type which also depends on the structure to be constructed. Doing your foundation/footing appropriately is paramount to the existence of your build given the right type and use of construction materials. Bottom to top and vice versa, walls run on the foundation lines except in instances where partial walls are done. 1 Like |

Rubbiish: Yes it may look impossible but it is possible, i know of some areas in Edo State where getting underground water seems impossible and this only happens I'm sedimentary aspects of Edo State with thick Sandstone ; Area like Ekpoma - Iruekpe - Benin axis, Fuga Agenebode axis to mention few. The reason why they don't have water is that Sandstone Is Poros and not permeable ; water can pass through it but cant store water. The water that pass through it can only be trapped if the sand has a bottom seal such as clay, shale, nonfractured bedrock, etc. This problem is solvable if the driller can drill to end of the sandstone, and terminate at the beginning of the layer(shale or clay) below the sandstone. But this is great task and would incure a lot of money If a thorough survey can be conducted to map the end of this Sandstone, and you follow the recommendation of the survey report, u would definitely get water. 3 Likes |

EgunMogaji: Egun, I watched the video and was quite revealing , I don't see reason why such technology cannot be deployed in the country to solve the housing gaps buy the local , state and federal government with different houses plans to accommodate all strata of people of the society This benefits of this video after watching are numerous ,below are a few 1.Time savings in delivery time 2. No wastages (Agile management ) 3.Huge cost savings at the long run based on economy of scale 4. Quality assurance 5.Elimination of middle men in the chain of supply The list can go on and on, how I wish One can introduce this building style inhe country for personal estate development. Many thanks for your contribution the property section |

Flaghouse1: We don't have it in Nigeria bc we learn one thing and stick with it with little room to think outside the box until oyibo folks come with new innovations. Our libraries and educational curricula are still based off of 1980's materials. You can tell what era a house was built in Nigeria by mere looks. One person builds a particular style, every builder/designer follows and runs with it until it is played out. I am not a big fan of herd mentality--a contrarian and a dissenter to the core. / 2 Likes |

InvertedHammer: Thinking outside the box has being a philosophy/culture in our daily lives since the early 2000's, how far have we faired as a nation, people in "thinking beside the box"we stick to one pattern and once it wanes out we adopt the next available style, We should be able to probe more on processes and see how we can improve on them 1 Like

Flaghouse1:Look for the production video and watch. The original videos are in German and that will tell you the reason why it might not work for us here, unless we are talking about massive importation of the blocks (estimated 40ft container per house as can be seen from the delivery truck on the video attached by Chief EgunMogaji, the quantity required to finish a house ) |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Nobody: 2:55pm On Feb 12, 2018 |
chidexy: We would have failed if we have to import the blocks. It’s not a patented system and can be replicated locally. I’m doing ongoing research on this and have already found individuals that make up their own blocks. |
