Poverty is already doing a good job. Imagine the north having the oil the south has. It would have been worse. 3 Likes |

Genetical engineering and biotechnology could do the trick; food items can be modified in such a way that consumption of those foods would reduce human fertility. Vaccines and some drugs could also be modified to impact the specific DNA sequences responsible for human fertility. Homosexuality can be legalized. Propaganda and mass reorientation; citizens can be sensitized right from nursery to avoid giving birth to more than one or two child(ren), it could be a part of the educational syllabus. Religious institutions can also be encouraged to teach doctrines that supports few children. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Over population is not the problem, bad government is. |

Doesn't make sense to think fo killing in order to control population. This is the same backward thinking that has plague our leaders. You cannot live life backwards. You should think forward. Think of how to create rather than destroy. 5 Likes |

20 years may not be realistic and neither can the goal be achieved while we are together with those whose way of life and/or faith encourage polygamy and bearing children like rats. Aside this factor, Nigeria can cut down on her population if government enacts a law that forbids having more than 1 or 2 children by any individual and punishes culprits while those who obey are rewarded handsomely. 1 Like |

Continue thinking population control would solve all the problems of the world rather than thinking of how to use huge population of Nigeria to our advantage. Look at the population of China, USA, despite their large population, they still have better lives than other less populated countries. With our large population we are a target market, and if we have policies in place to maximize the market we find ourselves in (using China as an example) our huge population would be beneficial. In a situation where everyone geopolitical zone contributes positively and not been totally dependent on other zones and an equal opportunity is provided for all to thrive, what do you think would happen to Nigeria. Also have in mind that while you are speaking about population control, a certain part of the country sees population control as "Haram". How would you even Start to initiate such a process. 2 Likes |

● Tax incentives like what Singapore used. ● Economic growth ● make contraception more widely available to women ● Education Ps: The 50 million number is only possible through apocalyptic situation. Reducing over 2/3 of population is very difficult even with disease and war. 2 Likes |

Best recommendation - DIVIDE the country and let each region go theirs separate ways - to self-determine. Nigeria is no longer working. 2 Likes |

MODALSOUL1:We as Nigerians have not even touched the vast natural resources in the country, courtesy of overdependence on oil. So I don't think that is a deal breaker. If you would agree with me, there are large amounts of untapped natural resources that we may not even know we have in Nigeria. What natural resources does England, Germany, France and Japan have? If these countries have any can they be compared with what we have in Nigeria? So once again over population at the moment is not the most pressing issue with Nigeria. |

I like this.....that's what Dan Brown was insinuating in his book Inferno If genetist can bio engineer a virus and introduce it into public and natural water systems. this virus or antigen would be tailored to Target the gonads and render the population ( or specific areas of the population that contribute the least to HDI or GDP ) impotent or reduce the ease with which people 'score' this agent can also have an antidote, that's reversible as at when needed.. I'd just found myself in Lagos and it's so depressing to see large swathes of people, most of em largely producing anything tangible.... Contraceptives should be encouraged massively. Gone are the days when we think overpopulation is an asset.....it's actually an impediment. |

abdelrahman: yes China is almost a sub continent. America is a continent. And Nigeria is not even larger than Texas yet has 180 mill people. something tells me that inmigrants from Nigeria Chad and northen Cameroon who are largely undocumented makes up a very significant percentage I mean it's not sustainable...arable land is taken over. and the worst part is that Nigeria does not have a skycraper mentality. each person wants a parcelof land to build instead of government building vertically and conserving space for agriculture. |
