Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has enjoined Catholics and other Christian faithful to be steadfast and pray for the progress of the state and Nigeria, as they commence the 40-day Lenten season.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki said, “The Lenten season, which is a solemn religious celebration in the Christian calendar, is an occasion for Catholics and other Christian faithful who observe the season, to seek spiritual upliftment. During this season, I urge them to deepen their communion with God through prayers, fasting and alms-giving, which are the hallmarks of the period.”

The governor enjoined Christians to also use the occasion to offer prayers for the progress of the state and the country, noting, “Prayers offered in such season assures us of God’s blessings, which is needed for the prosperity of the state.”

He added that, “The Lenten observance on fasting and self-mortification should be a means to overcome the murmurs of self-will. It is an opportunity that should be used to ask God for divine direction for Nigeria’s leaders in the face of the many fissures that threaten the collective existence of the country.”

Waoh! With all these choked work schedule, Obaseki still found out time to remember that Lent starts today.

What a God-fearing man indeed.

Putting God first remains the secret of success.

No wonder he is making so much accelerated progress in his very young administration.

One with God is majority they say. I've been wondering what keeps him going. Now I know where he draws the strength from.

Behind every good thing, there is the fear of God. Without the fear of God, Obaseki would have been doing any how and living any how, hence will not be performing.
