Only Ignorant people make a big thing out of it.
There is nothing like osu, the Ancient Arochukwu people invented that stuff to deceive people and have an easy access to people to sell off as slaves back then.
They were civilized then and many Igbo communities hire them as judges, those who the law is against were casted away and they become osu,
In the night, the aros through their Abam warrior mercenaries will come and kidnap those people and sell them to the white man.

For those that don't know, in the Olden days in Igboland there are certain crimes or abomination people commit and the villagers might want to kill them for that. Out of fear or in a bid to save themselves they might run to an oracle for refuge. Now having dedicated themselves to the Oracle nobody can touch them again or have anything to do with them again. They become outcasts,even their generation unborn. I don't know why it's still relevant today but seems people still fear those dedicated to oracles.

he isn't lying. My friends parents rejected her fiancé because he was from the OSU system, but with persistent pleas, prayers and co, they gave in to her demands and today they are married. Does it still exist, yes it does

The reason why it is complicated is the attachment to deity.
90% of communities that practice that have abolished it with sacrifice and incantations.

If he's tribe has rejected him then he should move on and reject them.
Marry from some other tribe and get his children embedded more in that tribe.
