I don't see him as one for the WC either, but I think he still deserves a place in the squad in one of our friendlies or the 35 man list.

Talking about Sadiq Umar benching Ajayi. That was quite some time ago. How has Sadiq's game progressed since then?

After all Manu Garba dropped Etebor and Ajayi from his 2015 U20 squad. Today where are the likes of Bulbwa, Mathew, Awoniyi and Sokari who made the team. Compare Sokari with Etebor who are like a like for like to each other

Several factors influence players selection. So because Sadiq benched Ajayi at Rio and Sadiq is not being considered yet doesn't make Ajayi not good enough for a consideration.
I think forgiveness has given me vivid reply on this and your first paragraph has settled and it all.

John Ogu Receives Call-Up For Poland, Serbia Pre-World Cup Friendlies

Hapoel Beer Sheva star John Ogu will get a chance to impress Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr ahead of the 2018 World Cup, as the German gaffer has handed him a call-up for the upcoming games against Poland and Serbia next month,
allnigeriasoccer.com understands.

As previously reported, the Nigerian Federation have contacted the clubs of the players summoned for the friendlies in Europe but will not make public the squad list until March.

Ogu wants to avoid a repeat scenario that saw him miss the friendly matches against Corsica and Togo last year and has begun the process of applying for a visa to the United Kingdom and Poland.
He wrote his name on the score-sheet in his penultimate match for the Super Eagles in 2017 against Algeria, but Nigeria had to forfeit that game after fielding an ineligible player Abdullahi Shehu.

The central midfielder made his debut for the national team against Kenya back in 2013.
In 18 league outings for Hapoel Beer Sheva this season, Ogu has scored one goal, logging 1,511 minutes.

Is Sunday Oliseh just misunderstood?
By Colin Udoh, KweséESPN

While Valentine's Day is typically a day of couples getting together and celebrating their romance, there was a very definite separation between young lovers in the Netherlands, as Fortuna Sittard parted ways with Sunday Oliseh.
In the eyes of romantics, it was a poorly timed breakup, but despite leading the Dutch side from over two years of obscurity to the brink of a top-flight return, Oliseh's exit had begun to look inevitable.
Fortuna Sittard attributed the parting of ways to Oliseh's attitude and work ethic, referencing his inability to work with team personnel across the board.

For some, the news came as a surprise, but for many Nigerians, this felt like world-weary déjà vu.

We've been here before with Oliseh, who has previously criticised Nigerians for being professional and is now being victimised in Europe for apparently being too righteous.
Unfortunately, his departure is merely the latest chapter in Oliseh's growing catalogue of conflicts which date back to his playing days.

In 2002, as Nigeria captain, Oliseh was at the head of a bitter war of attrition between the team on the one side, and most of the Nigerian media on the other.

That battle contributed to the team's coaches, led by the late Shaibu Amodu, getting fired. Key players, including Oliseh himself, were subsequently left out of the World Cup squad and, essentially, his international career was ended.
Two years later, while on loan at VfL Bochum from Borussia Dortmund, Oliseh was involved in a physical altercation with teammate Vahid Hashemian which ended with the Iranian getting a broken, bloodied nose after a headbutt by the Nigerian midfielder.
More recently, his time as Nigeria coach was marked by stormy confrontations with the Nigeria football hierarchy, and a public dustup with Vincent Enyeama which precipitated the goalkeeper's premature retirement from the national team.

Even former teammates, who declined to go on record, have detailed tales and anecdotes of confrontations and abrasive behaviour in camp.
This latest back and forth with Sittard is just the most recent chapter, and it has led to heated discussions in Nigeria, both for and against the former midfielder, Oliseh surely needs to start looking in the mirror.

Nigerian sprinter Enefiok Udo-Obong, an Olympic gold medallist, is one prominent sportsman who has taken the side

"The truth is that Oliseh is upright," he told KweséESPN. "People
in Nigeria unfortunately do not appreciate that.

'"We love 'yes sir' men. That is why we hate bold people," he added. "It will be in the interest of young Nigerians to support Oliseh."

That sentiment is shared by Oliseh's elder brother Churchill, who is also heavily involved in football, and says his younger sibling has always been guided by a high sense of principle.

"He has played football at the topmost level and he realises that one of the things that keeps you relevant in the serious world of football is principle," the elder Oliseh told KweséESPN. "Everybody knew somebody like Sir Alex Ferguson and knew what he stood for. Today we all applaud his resolve," he added. "It is the same thing with Sunday. He has the desire to do well

"He is also linked with a list of serious organisations and bodies around the world. Any illegality will cost him and he has never been willing to lose his name because he wants to bend the rules or be treated unfairly by anybody," the elder Oliseh added.
"You can't ruin your name and your career because of immediate gain."

So does Oliseh really need a change in attitude, or is he simply being misunderstood for his principled stand?

Tony Ubani, president of the Sports Editors Guild, told KweséESPN that the situation isn't quite as cut and dried as that.

"I think it is a bit of both; he's misunderstood and he also has an attitude problem," Ubani began.
"Oliseh is intelligent, he knows the job and is very disciplined, but his attitude towards people, towards people who work with him and his public relations, especially with media, is very poor."

Ubani was in the thick of the action during that 2002 'war' between the Super Eagles and the media, and while he admits that there was blame on both sides, he says Oliseh and the team could have done better

"As a media man, I don't think anybody will love my country more than me. As much as we write and criticise, we are not less patriotic than the players.
"While he was playing, Oliseh never recognised Nigerian media. He preferred interviews with foreign media. Even those who were trying to be close to him were shunned.
"As media men, we sometimes go overboard, but no matter how intelligent you are as a coach, you must also develop a relationship with the media.
"So I wasn't surprised when I heard what happened to him at Fortuna. I couldn't but weep for him," Ubani concluded. "I think he needs to change his attitude.
"It is hard to bend an oak. I don't know if it is possible for him now, but nobody is too old to learn. If he can, he should make some adjustments."
Churchill disagrees, saying that despite the seeming conflicts in his football career, Oliseh will remain a much sought-after coach, even in light of his dismissal.

"Have you looked at the history of (Jose) Mourinho and (Fabio) Capello? They have had issues because of their stands," the elder Oliseh continued. "These men know that once things are not being right, they will not stand for it.
"It is a plus, because anyone coming for him knows what they are coming for: a principled man.
"In Sunny's case, he has achieved something the club have been unable to do in 23 years. The fans love him, the players love him. Only the management do not.
"Football is as intricate as surgery. The expert knows why he is doing a bypass, but others might wonder why not just change the heart?"
It's telling that the fortunes of the Nigeria national team have been transformed after Gernot Rohr replaced Oliseh as head coach.
The former, who offers the experience and temperament that Oliseh lacks, has turned the team into an excellent outfit.
Perhaps, once the former midfielder can demonstrate more maturity, and if he learns from chastening experiences such as these, he can still become the great Nigerian coach that many have been waiting for.

CSKA Moscow's Samuel, Brian 'Abuja' Idowu On Target For Amkar Perm

CSKA Moscow's Aaron Samuel is in the form of his life having found the net for the third straight game as Amkar Perm beat their Armenian opponents Alashkert FC 2-0 in a friendly on Thursday evening.
The Nigeria international opened the scoring in the 17th minute after he was fed by Milkovicha, the Russian Premier League team doubled their advantage through Brian 'Abuja' Idowu on 73 minutes.
Both Samuel and the Super Eagles left-back were named in the starting line-up while Fegor Ogude was introduced in the second half.

A week ago, the striker bagged a hat-trick as CSKA Moscow crushed Spanish club FC Torrevieja 7-0 in their final warmup game staged at their training camp in Campoamor, before scoring in his first game for Amkar Perm in their 3-0 win vs Montenegrin club FK Budućnost Podgorica at the start of this week.

Amkar Perm are in talks with CSKA Moscow over a four-month loan deal for the Nigeria striker but it is understood that the Perm based club have cash flow problems and this could scupper the proposed deal.
If the two clubs fail to reach an agreement, Samuel will have to return to CSKA before the end of this week.

^ Oliseh should never have started accusing the club of illegality online. If there is illegality, get a lawyer and follow the appropriate routes. His tweet was just mud-slinging in my opinion.

It is not about Oliseh being 'principled'.. When he was Nigeria's coach, his brother's players were invited to the Eagles even though they were not necessarily Nigerian level. That was not very principled.

If Mikel was hot-headed, he would have probably resigned during Oliseh's era because he was benched for much poorer paul Onobi.

I just want to address the Rapid way insults at an alarming rate happens on this thread. I know a Whatsapp group that had some old Super Eagles players including Emma Okocha. The group was known for in depth analysis of the game and healthy debates.

Then there was a breakdown of order and two members of the group went on a Rapid session of insults. Sad part is that two of them were friends who knew themselves for years. Then there was an exodus of members from the group due to that breakdown including the Former Super Eagles members.

So the insults have the potential of not only hurting those the words were hauled at but also making members not take the thread seriously.

We should take each others as brothers and take each others family members as ours. When I lost my father last October, I got Condolence messages from this thread that in a little way made it possible to deal with the painful loss.

We should keep that love among us growing just as tbaba1234 sent a gift to another members child.

Thank you and...

Finito.

I will also like to address the notion that someone said he would join a group against one of our promising young talents, Kelechi Iheanacho. That is unbelievable to read. That is not what we are doing here. We are here for the best of the team and the best of Nigerian players. There should not be a pro or anti Nacho or any player campaign.

Just as we should see ourselves on this thread as family, we should have the same love and respect for our young players, both home and foreign based. Their success will only make our team stronger.

So we should not wish or go against any of our players.

If any wants to criticise, he is free to do it but it should be with an honest intention to build the player and not to tear the player down.

The idea that someone intends to run a player down on the thread even though the player is doing well, frightens me.

Football is our biggest uniting force. We should help it continue to heal the wounds our division has caused us.

A big thumbs up to Amaju Pinnick and his team. A nice work in selecting the coaching crews for our young teams and most especially setting up the Team B of the Super Eagles. It showed foresight and I hope all teams are well managed including the quality friendly games the teams have to play to get in shape.

Another victory is the quality Kit unveiled. It shows we are in different times and we can expect improvement in the State of Nigerian football.

Nigeria has finally arrived. It is time for the World to know.

And you are happy it happened? You want a trophy for it? We know him to be very opinionated and "arrogant". Being sacked due to whatever reason given isn't peculiar to him alone so what's the fuse? Some of us here are even worse off attitude wise. His life, his issues. He's made his name already and this won't even stop him from getting another job having been a successful footballer.
