AGBORLU31PRINCE: The same reason a common uneducated footballer is earning in a month what a professor that spent over 30 years studying earns in 2 years. Its not a new thing, stop acting like u don't know being brilliant in school automatically means success. U cannot change that, the world will pay anything for entertainment. The world is not fair. |

marvin904: Give it a few years of consistency and a lot of people will no longer give a damn about it. Last year's BBN was the most watched and they had to do another one this year. If they continue to make it a yearly show very soon a lot of people won't care. 1 Like |

aminulive:We watch telemundo and they kiss and cuddle almost naked in it,can we ask them to stop what they're doing? We watch keeping up with Kardashians and other reality shows where they dress provocatively and even expose their vijayjay while giving birth, can we ask our govt to stop them? We watch ladies undergo breast implant surgery and others on "Botched" or do tor 90210,why don't we ask our govt to stop them too because they're immoral. They show these programmes in more civilized countries and it's left for you to decide if you want to see them or not. 1 Like |

OGHENAOGIE: Are we even moral in this country? We are just pretending to be.. the advanced countries that we 'claim' are immoral are still much more moral than us. According to Dictionary.com Immorality means 1. immoral quality, character, or conduct; wickedness; evilness. 2. sexual misconduct. 3. an immoral act. So why are we now acting like sexual misconduct is the only act of immorality, even though we are even more guilty of this even though we pretend. In churches sexual misconduct is rampant between so called men of God and congregation. At least in advanced countries they don't hide it, here we do it and still go out and preach against it. What about wickedness, people killing people for religion and tribal reasons, people killing others for rituals, politicians stealing money meant for the people and yet we still hail them. Its in this same country that policemen will arrest armed robbers with guns and still let them go after being bribed. There is too much immorality in this country than even think of BBnaija.. I just don't get what the fuss is about. 2 Likes |

AGBORLU31PRINCE:BBN is a private initiative organised by a South African businessman to make money for himself/his organisation and to entertain people. The keyword above is 'PRIVATE', so I'm a bit confused at how you now think this private business venture is the problem of your educational sector which you are embarrassed about. How exactly did you link these two things? Why dont you hold your government or the governing bodies of your higher institutions responsible for not incentivising educational excellence?... How has one man's private business suddenly become your problem?... For starters, without having to wait for our useless leaders, is there really anything stopping you as a private concerned individual from setting up a private organisation that rewards academic excellence?... It's always very convenient for us to just fold our arms and do nothing but then sit behind keyboards to criticise, insult and crucify others for simply living their lives. 2 Likes |

myettiallah: I dont even know what channel it is on not to talk of watching it! Not for a second. I have better things to do with my life. But I get so surprised that many Nigerians have become so comfortable with societal degradation. Sad. We keep comparing ourselves with America. Like a doctor once said - Nigerian children consume junk food like Americams, forgetting that America has healthcare and advancement in medicine to take care of the consequences, but here in Nigeria, common paracetamol they may not even have in the 'presidential' clinic! Who is fooling who? |

The truth is 1) Of what spiritual importance is big brother to you. 2) Of what economy importance is big brother to the Nation 3) what values does the show add to an adults and youths. If you are watching the show and you can't answer these questions then it should be scrap. No matter the rating by the broadcast commission the teen and youths will still find a way to watch it. If I were Buhari I will use my executive power to not only stop the show but destroy it totally . No absolute freedom anywhere in the world. Why won't crimes and rape increases on the land. God , pls forgive OUR sin in Nigeria. |

Dee60: Yes, we should care about the problems plaguing the youths, but you don't do that by issuing draconian decrees and taking away the power of making the right decisions by choice, an informed choice if I may say. Teenagers are especially rebellious when you try to force things down their throat. A better approach is to educate them about the positives and negatives of every situation. If we start to ban, then we will ban the Internet itself so that we can stop our youths from viewing pornography and getting involved in "yahoo-yahoo", and wasting their life away on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We would also need to ban Super Sport so that our youths will stop wasting money on sports betting like Nairabet, BetNaija and so on. Are you getting my drift? I'm sure that would affect you too. The number one way to raise responsible youths is proper parenting. We as parents are mostly guilty of not doing enough, me inclusive. We get so caught up in the hustle to make ends meet and provide for these children that we are not giving them the necessary guidance they need. The family is the smallest individual unit in every society. When we correct the anomalies in the family, we will have better, responsible children and youths. We have also not paid attention to our schools. Are our kids getting the right kind of education that will help them make better choices? We have to correct the problem from the foundation. |

Akshow: What is the rating to be a member or even a visitor on Nairaland? Yet there is not a day that goes by you don't see a topic or two about the porn that is going on in BBN on its frontpage. Nairaland forbids and edits sexual words and terms by posters, yet everyday on the front page, if is not about someone licking nipples, it is about another sucking dick. Can you be bold to say there are no 12, 13, 14yr olds on this forum? Do you believe all these front page publicity is not deliberate? The issue is not just about dstv viewership, it is about the kind of campaign and publicity it is being given on media platforms. The people behind these campaigns obviously do not care whether they reach children or not. That itself should be something to worry about. |

dabossman: I agree. There is just something about this BBN that is amiss. Some of the youths are even calling for censure. When you tell people, there is a serpent in that pit, they are likely going to take precaution. That applies to the internet! In the case of BBN the message is - there is a dove in that cage. The 'kids' go there only to find that the so called dove is a serpent! That is the issue! NBC has stopped several things that dont even come close to BBN in terms of vile and vanity! That is why I dont get it. But I may be wrong. There are experts in these things. |
Re: Lauretta Onochie Speaks On Big Brother Naija And The Adult Content by dabossman(m): 10:04pm On Feb 19, 2018 |
Dee60: Actually, it is my field. There is a difference between free-to-air terrestrial channels and pay/cable TV. NBC will readily ban unsavory content on free-to-air channels like AIT, LTV, Channels etc because it is suplied to homes freely. All you need is an antenna. Cable/Pay TV is different. You used your money to buy it by choice. It is not exactly freely available. You bought a decoder and subscribed. In other words, you used your hand to bring the wahala into your home. There are many channels on DSTV that broadcast stuff worse than BBN. The onus is on you to monitor what your wards watch and these platforms have parental control features. When the NBC bans songs, they are still aired on MTV, Trace, Hip Hop TV and so on cable. They are two different scenarios. The only censorship requirement is to put an are limit. BBNclearly states it is for 18+. And it's not true that BBN is a dove. This show has been with us for more than 15 years since the first BBA. Most people know what it is about. They are not ignorant about it. |

dabossman: You just nailed it. Same thing I've been trying to explain to some people. Bbnaija does not air on national TV, u pay to watch it by buying decoder and subscribing. Asking for it to be banned is like going to arrest someone who uses his money to buy a porn CD and watches it in his home. And I don't get why people call bbn porn. It's ridiculous. Yes they kiss but they kiss more on telemundo. Whoever is waiting till middle of the night when housemates are asleep to see who is smooching who is simply jobless. The show is even saner now that they removed shower scenes unlike the old BBA where cameras we're allover the bathroom and people wait to see when housemates take their showers. As for Any teenager that waits until midnight to watch bbn do truth or dare, then their parents or guardians should be checked. Why didn't NBC ban people from going to cinemas to see 50 shades? Because it was rated 18 and people pay to go see it by choice, it's the same thing with bbn only this time u pay to watch it in ur home. 1 Like |
