nice write up
it's funny that most architect feel every drawing drafted by them is realistic, during presentation they look lovely and appeas to be every one dream home, upon review by the structural engineering team you will be shocked at the threat they( building) pose to live, that's when the fight between adjustment and cancellation begins..thanks once more, most people don't understand what torsion can do to cantilevered structure when not properly design some people ignorantly use curved beams too.

why the emphasis on curved beams??

Torsion is caused by shear stress/forces correct?

Do straight rods easily develop twisting moment when used in cantilever beams?

Curious civil engineering student.

Sir if i mix this cement with sand & granite, will it level itself?
Or it isn't to be use with other aggregates to achieve the self leveling?

What do you mean by other aggergates?...you don already mix all of them na lol

Not sure of the name or if it can be called an aggregate but there’s something that you can add to a concrete mix to make it flow better.

Please house, how common is damp proofing in Nigeria?

Is it neccesary to damp proof walls made with solid blocks?

Should you damp proof irrespective of any factor?

I wish everyone that consider not doing a monolithic floor will read this.

how much more aesthetically pleasing is a momolithic floor compared to a tilled floor

what about cost implications?? Is it cheaper?

In Nigeria they don’t do polished floors so you’ll still cover it with tile.

Cost is what it, just another line item in throwing up a proper structure. IMHO.

But why do a monolithic floor if you are just going to cover it up with tiles??

One advantage of this floor is that nothing seeps through (no foreign germinations underneath) as opposed to tiles which posses grouts

I did on mine because I paid attention to the pros both on here and in real life.

When Spyder880 built his own house on here he did a monolithic floor.

That’s good enough for me.

What I did not do was a moisture barrier.

Do your research and put your best foot forward.

It’s your money.

No, at least not in the Nigerian context.

Monolithic floor (slab) is commonly referred to as German floor.

your plan would make more sense Horizontally . master bedrooms are ideal at the back . The two bedrooms on the right side are ideal on the left . In any case, I always see bungalows as a waste of space . What does it cost to dig just one more feet and go higher? that's why the Japanese and even Chinese are smart. on that piece of land they could build a 7 storey.
The building below is in a small rapidly developing town in Germany. it measures 50 feet by 60 feet and has only stairs and no elevator . it contains 3 bedroom apartments .
I think the Nigerian government should enact a law encouraging 5 storey and above . even if you have no money at least lay the foundation . government should lend money to complete .
Even if an individual is building a private residence, doesn't it just make more sense to build nothing less than a duplex? My opinion ,Brother
Sir i don't think the bold has to do with smartness, but cost & contentment.
It is better to live in a completed bungalow with peace of mind, than an uncompleted two storey building with debts & sleepless night...

& not everyone fancy going up due to age factor...

Regarding costs, which is more expensive, a 4,000 square feet bungalow or a 1,000 square feet duplex? grin

Give me a sprawling bungalow or give me death.

I think the decking cost alone will crush the cost difference of the 3000 square feet. Too many factors in building duplex.
It's a matter of choice though and lack of land space.
