Those asking government to pay the bills must be high on something unusual or just kidding! Government didn't impregnate these women FYI. And just as some noted, you won't be surprised that some of them might even have 4, 5 children at home already.
Why getting pregnant when you cant afford hospital bills? Family planning is very affordable. Why not doing that?
My verdict on this is that they should be given tasks to do in the hospital that will pay their bills.
Only have children you can take care!

Considering that I have information about someone in this same situation at the same alimosho gh, I would say the hospital is doing what it can to recoup the owed funds.

A patient comes does c/s, delivers the baby and then the baby is admitted at the NNU for some days the baby and mother are discharged and then no money to pay. What do we want the hospital to do?

The fact is that they were treated first which is the most important.

The fees are subsidized already do we want the hospital to run down

Re: Lagos Hospital Detains Nursing Mothers, Babies Over Non Payment Of Bills by Dammylois(f): 9:10am On Feb 23, 2018
The state should offset the bill abeg....but come to think of it,you have nine months to prepare for delivery yet these things still happen everywr. Some women come to the hospital with nothing, not even bend down select baby dress even after you've given then list of items months before the date....i won't blame the hospital cos it's not a charity organisation.....and we will be hvn less of this if we learn to insure our health

Govt hospital fees are already subsidized heavily as it is.
Why some people feel its right to use some services and not pay for it is beyond belief (both govt and private establishments). The hospitals have to pay for their own electricity, buy diesel to power their generators, buy consumables such as gauze, needles etc, to be used in taking care of patients, repair and maintainance of equipments etc
I wonder how many people saying such are ready to offer their own services for free.
Its high time the govt become more serious with population control and family planning

Another good point you made there.
Bros he has made no point. Just about a day or two ago ,someone post a thread about how Singaporean govt planned given out a bonus of 300$ each to its citizens . Since u and i were born how many of our leaders had done 1/4 of what countries like this have done? This is part of social responsibilities if our govt afterll d govt abroad we all copied pay social benefit to its citizens.
mind u im not trying to support over populating the country but my question is this when will our govt start acting right?

this is wickedness

Dee60:

This is the terrible practice in many hospitals!

Its not wickedness...Hospitals needs to generate funds to continue to maintain itself. Govt will never provide everytin a hospital needs. trust me, its far from wickedness and its nt a terrible practice. health care is not cheap and The women involved did nt get pregnant yesterday. they had 9full months to prepare for dis.

we Once had a 1yr old baby that had an emergency surgery done to save his life. the parents kept promising dey'd pay up their bills(up to #50k), One morning, they disappeared. we kept calling the man, he never answered his fone or text. U can imagine that. if everything keeps getting depleted, how r we suppose to save the life of others?

Later the same populace will keep shouting that general hospitals are not well equipped.

You dont know what goes on. Health care service In this country is already seriously subsidised by the govt. M in the system so I know. I'll give u an example.

there was a tym one of my friends in The US wanted to do an herniorraphy(Hernia repair). The total cost was about #900, 000 after conversion to naira.

In Nigeria, (Asokoro District Hospital to be specfic), the cost of the same Operation is around #40k. So u can imagine...

Sad, the more reason why NHIS should be compulsory for everyone.
Government needs to have a sliding tax which takes more from the rich and use it to finance healthcare. Any one whose gross earning is above 500k should pay 20% tax, above 200k should pay a 10% tax, above 100k should pay 7.5% etc etc

I like your way. That is how it should be

I concur with you big time on everyrhing you just said.

Delivery feed is met to be free. A child is suppose to be everybody child and it is not so, that is why people find it difficult to correct a child on the street.
Let go back to the world of old since we (Nigeria) is not mature to live a life of jet age.

What the hell is going on in this country? Why holding eight nursing mothers hostage for pecuniary reason? Have they been feeding well?
Please, let the state government intervene!

Condom, is a much cheaper option........
