DOZIEX!!! my man! Long time! Always frank and straight to the point. No time for unnecessary bickering.
Its sickening how we use our military. Very quick to use the military to shut down anti-government views and populism while they keep mum in the face of external aggression. Cameroon and Chad, we know. Even Benin Rep forces had an incursion across our western border last year, and there was no response from us. Not even a peep from the MOD, DHQ. Nothing.
So much could have been done over many years and so much more could be done now with what we have, but hey, they prefer some of the most infantile and ridiculous operations: Op Python dance, Cat Race, Crocodile Smile and all sorts of nonsense.

doziex:
Gentlemen, Paul Biya and Idrys deby have been spoiling for a fight with nigeria for some time now.

This aggressive francophone posture, while officially doing business with nigeria comes from the top. Not junior overly ambitious officers.

PMB, general buratai and the Nigerian congress should please wake up to this threat

We cannot control what the francophonies and the French do but we can control our own actions.

QUIT the ostrich mentality, and re equip our armed forces for potential war

They are driving up their Chinese made apcs to scare our border guards because they know that ours are in disrepair, sputtering in the north east or in boko harams junk yard.

Corruption and a poor national security orientation has conspired to bring us to this lowly state we find ourselves

Only a very effective, all encompassing military build up/ spending would reverse our current humiliating state.

lol, people are so happy that Zuma is gone... yet they dont see the writing on the wall.

Sure, Zuma stole from us... but Cyril is going to destroy us. Mark my words.

SA's rainfall is predicted to drop by 40% over the next 25 years. Cyril (either by choice, or because of the party) is going to push forward with expropriation without compensation. 90% of previously transferred farms have failed (completely). Expropriation will also wipe about 133 billion of Rand's of assets from the banking sector (commercial farmers owe huge amounts to the banks) so there wont be any capital left to re-invest in Agriculture. Add it up.

The Zimbabwe analogy is a fallacy, what is coming our way is worse - inconceivably worse. Zimbabwe is a rural country, Zimbabwe has a prosperous neighbor to the South. When their farming sector went belly-up and food scarcity hit, their urban population could simply return to the country side for a subsistence life-style, or head South to RSA. We dont have those options - we are an urbanized country with poor neighbors - you are going to have starving and unemployed masses in the cities, many of which will also be facing water scarcity. Its going to get fvcking nasty fvcking quickly.

Hell, and Im not even going to mention the new mining charter - which seems to want to recreate the same Apartheid sanctions that killed the mining sector (and brought the NP to the negotiation chamber), or the new Minimum Wage act (Treasury estimates it will cause potential job losses* for 45% of primary educated labour, 43% of agricultural labour, 52% of private households, about 40% of all full-time workers, 45% of full-time clothing workers, 82% of full-time workers in the agricultural sector, 87% of full-time domestic workers).

To be honest, the party is over. Im going to stay over-seas for the next decade or so - busy working on getting residency in the US atm. Ill wait it out, and work myself to death in a Corporate hell-scape. But when all the new farms have failed, sail in with a pocket-full of USD and buy a nice big slice of land on the cheap. Use that land to leverage a loan from the bank and then buy up another big slice of land. Then sit on it and wait for the sector to recover and sell it off for a nice profit. Ironically, my great grandfather made a small fortune doing the exact same thing in the aftermath of the Boer war.

Its very risky, but the deep irony of a White fella turning this racist land redistribution strategy into a way to generate a tidy sum of money, while the "beneficiaries" of the redistribution get plunged into generations of suffering is just too juicy to resist. There are safer investments, but fvck me, nothing gets me going like a good dose of JUSTICE.

*that % of jobs will now be "at risk", ie: potentially no longer economically viable.

I'm not sure if you're aware of that fact that once you've obtained the Citizenship of another country you automatically forfeit your South African Citizen, unless you ask for permission to retain your S.A Citizenship before acquiring the new Citizenship, but it's not always guaranteed that you'll be given that permission.

So my reason for raising the issue of citizenship is that, a few years ago a New Law was passed that Foreigners will only be allowed to own only 12 000 hectares of South African land, so since you would most likely have given up your S.A Citizenship, for an American one.. When you come back to S.A you will be considered as a Foreigner, who can only buy two farm houses.

Your plan sounds really great, but the new laws won't be in your favour, like the Law was for your Grand Pappy.

I disagree with Patches' post, but let's stick to facts. The 2 laws you've cited don't exist.
You might be confusing it with the regulation that states that you have to use your SA passport to fly out and in, otherwise your foreign passport will be treated as if you're on tourist visa even though you're a citizen. For example: before I could fly to Europe on my UK and Portuguese passport - to avoid visas applications and fees; go on to US on same, and then fly home on my SA passport.
It's changed nothing for me if going to Europe - SA passport to exit, present SA and Euro passport on arrival, and same process in reverse.
Unnecessary red tape enacted during a paranoid presidency. Anyway, there's a thread for all this, let's stop derailing this thread.

It's obvious that BHTs succeeded in kidnapping those students. That is their new found money mine. How much million of Euro/dollars are they going to request for this time around

This administration alone has paid billions of naira in cash to the terrorists. They have freed dozens of hardened Boko Haram commanders in captivity. To make matter worse, they are releasing in droves ex-BHTs in captivity tagging them "repentant ex-members." How are they sure they would not just go back to their terrorism business?

That is a misinformed position, most of those released are mostly family members of bht arrested during mass raids, most of them in rehab are basically folks abducted to fight against their will, once they had the chance, they voluntarily surrendered to the military , have you considered the human rights implication of continued keeping those folks in detention? Have you considered how valuable their intel is? There are rules of engagement bro!!

Prisoner exchange is an integral part of modern warfare, every country does it, agreed it reinvigorates their insurgency on the flip side, both parties have a new chance to fight from a possessed advantage point.
Look at it this way, imagine if the previous admin did not deny Hedima, but opted to exchange him for a commander or some cash, we would have had a bad ass experienced pilot on a personal mission of vandetta.
What do you think he will do to BHT once he gained his freedom?
You can argue the same for the terrorist we released, in the end, we all live to fight another day.

Believe me, we must rank top in having the most incompetent administrators in the world. In fact, BHT should demand our central bank now. Politics has eaten our brains rotten!
Civilians will die, soldiers will die, BHT will die, we will lose money simply out of negligence.

Based on new capabilities we have acquired, I expect a massive man hunt and rescue ops from our side, at this point, we can only hope for the best.

Your points are salient but just because we want urgent results shouldn't mean we throw all caution to the wind.
We are reinvigorating them if keep telling them they can kidnap our citizens, all they need is demand for ransom and we will pay.

It does not work that way, you only come to the negotiation table once you have the advantage.
Lets use Chibok girls for example, the time wasted living in denial gave boko the chance to distribute the girls making every rescue effort extremely dangerous. That of course is a huge advantage for BHT.
That may not play out here if the present administration shows some level of sincerity.
BHT may not get the advantage hence it makes more logical sense to assume there may not be room for negotiations.

Watched the video. The against terrorism is more than arms. To me, if the military can shekau location and stronghold, you should be willing to let guys die to capture or kill the bastard. If it's about bombing him, then I feel it's better. Problem : civilians casualty.

Another option : DHQ should send some SF to carry out a covert operation on him. I'm sure the guy has over 200 men protecting him with technicals and others.

Moves.
1) ID all possible threats and plan for them.
2) Covert operation may need airstrikes to come in on his armed guards location while SF rope down from helos OR ATR.
3) insert Snipers into strategic locations and all officers should be equipped with NVG and personal comms.
4) Once you have SF coming in on him, regular troops should be ready to surround the area and support the SF.

Alot of aircrafts will be needed for such ops . CH3, MI35, A-JET and F-7. A minimum of two ISR aircrafts should be deployed.

Men will die but shekau will be captured or killed. Men die everyday but this will destroy BHT to a good extent.

In the face of external aggression, we would need some extra coaching lessons to remind us how we dealt with such in the past. It is a pity this is self inflicted, an indication that our military capability is questionable.

Its only a matter of time, we will definitely face the grim realities.

On the Dapchi School Girl Kidnapping.
Nigerian Government has succeeded in overstretching its military capability. Currently, there are just very few states in our country where one form of military activity or the other isn't ongoing. We adjudicate police work to military personnel as we sink deeper into this abyss of nonsense.

So, when smart and progressive folks suggested State and Community policing, some dotards were drooling "state folice my foot." Well where were the military and Federal police when the state and the community needed them most

What if we have State Police with each state training and arming its officers according to its immediate need? Do you think they would abandon their children so BHTs could easily capture them

Food for thought.

Covert operation of such are made up of SF team whose operations will only be known by top brass officers. The CDS, CAS, COAS and CNS can brief the President of such ops. Others would be informed minutes to a maximum of 1 hour to such ops.

Whichever way. Having a mole in the military doesn't mean the operation can't be possible.

PRESS RELEASE

UPDATE ON OPERATION DEEP PUNCH II: TROOPS CLEAR MORE BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ENCLAVES AND RECOVER ARMS

Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE currently on Operation DEEP PUNCH II which is aimed at clearance of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists within Sambisa forest and Lake Chad basin general area, have continued to record successes. The troops have been launching offensive operations on suspected hideouts of the terrorists that kept the insurgents on the run.

Two days ago, on Thursday 22nd February 2018, suspected Boko Harm terrorists attempting to escape through one of the blocking positions of the troops, paid dearly as quite a number of them were neutralized. In an ambush that lasted for less than 20 minutes near Sabil Huda, the troops recovered a G3 Rifle magazine, 1 Life jacket, a Light Machine Gun metal link, 4 rounds of anti-Aircraft ammunition, 4 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition and 3 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. Unfortunately, 2 soldiers were injured in the process. They have since been evacuated by the Nigerian Air Force and are responding to treatment.

Buoyed with the success and information obtained, the troops yesterday Friday 23rd February 2018, embarked on offensive operations on suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideout ahead of Camp Zairo within Sambisa forest. Unfortunately however, they encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that affected one of their Armoured Fighting Vehicle. Undeterred, they continued with the offensive action in which they cleared suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideout around Parisu. During the clearance, they also neutralized 5 Boko Haram terrorists and wounded several others. The troops recovered a 122 millimetre gun mounted on a truck that also has an Anti-aircraft gun on it, 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade, 1 Grenade Revolver, 7 Mortar Bombs and other assorted weapons. While advancing, the troops also encountered and recovered 2 Toyota Hilux vehicles, 3 Power generating sets, 2 Motorcycles, additional Mortar bombs, Gas cylinders and the Boko Haram terrorists Metal fabrication factory replete with varying machines for welding and making IEDs.

While on the offensive in other parts, the troops of 151 Battalion in conjunction . with 7 Division Support Group also embarked on clearance offensive against Boko Haram terrorists hideouts around Frigi crossing point and Izza general area. The gallant troops discovered and destroyed 9 Boko Haram terrorists hideouts. Although the number of Boko Haram terrorists neutralized could not be ascertained, it is believed to be quite sizeable, while one of their leaders was captured. The troops rescued an old man and 3 elderly women in one of the hideouts.

The troops also recovered 1 Motorcycle with 10 Bicycle tyres, a bicycle, 3 Boko Haram flags, 1 Solar panel, 5 drums of Guinea corn, 2 medium size mattresses, 2 Grinding machines, 3 bags of metal scraps, 2 Motorcycle tyres and 2 underground food Storages. They also recovered one AK-47 Rifle Magazine, 1 dummy Rifle, a round of 12.7mm ammunition, 12 empty cases of 7.62mm ammunition, 2 bicycles, large quantity of IED making materials and a tool box. The Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE provided air cover for the Land troops throughout the conduct of the operations.

CAPACITY BUILDING: NIGERIAN AIR FORCE GRADUATES THIRD BATCH OF SPECIAL FORCES PERSONNEL, TRAINS OVER 500 IN 6 MONTHS
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has graduated another batch of Special Forces personnel comprising officers, airmen and airwomen, from its Regiment Training Centre (RTC) in Kaduna. With the graduation, which took place on 23 February 2018, the NAF has so far trained well over 500 Special Forces personnel in asymmetric warfare in the past 6 months. The 8-week specialized training was facilitated by an Israeli Military Training Organisation, Four-Troop Limited in conjunction with NAF instructors at RTC. It is designed to meet contemporary security challenges as well as add more value to the base defence architecture of the NAF towards enabling the continuous projection of air power.
While addressing graduands at the well attended ceremony, the Guest of Honour, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, represented by Chief of Training and Operations, Air Vice Marshal Nurudeen Balogun, stated that the current NAF leadership has made deliberate efforts at repositioning the NAF into a highly professional fighting force. “Several air and ground related capacity building initiatives have been conducted in recent times to enable the NAF have depth, flexibility and capability to operate either alone or in conjunction with other sister services”, the CAS disclosed. According to him, the leadership of the NAF would continue to build a highly sustainable and functional air force that would be highly responsive and decisive. He further stated that the NAF, through collaboration mechanisms with other organisations, would continue to develop requisite capabilities and evolve new strategies for adequate response and maintain proper force structure to counter challenges as they affect the wellbeing of the nation.
Air Marshal Abubakar congratulated the graduands and advised them to imbibe the attributes of Special Forces, which include absolute discipline, honesty, intelligence, motivation, teamwork, decisiveness, aggressiveness and courage, among others. The CAS also charged the newly graduated Special Forces to put all that they had learnt to maximum use to safeguard lives and properties of Nigerians. The CAS urged the Special Forces personnel to submit themselves to the civil authority and protect democracy. “Always remember that your duty is to protect all Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic background or religious inclination”, the CAS reiterated.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commandant RTC, Group Captain Isaac Subi, stated that the Special Forces personnel had been provided with a robust, professional, comprehensive and practical training that was mission tailored. According to the Commandant, the curriculum of the Special Forces Course was structured to make it effective and efficient to meet the ever changing complexities of military operations either during war or in peace time. The training module involved classroom lectures, practical demonstrations, film shows and field exercises covering a wide range of counter terrorism drills, commando fighting tactics, airfield defence, force protection and aspects of combat search and rescue in addition to other forms of skills required for asymmetric warfare.
Personnel who distinguished themselves during the course were presented with awards. The CAS Award for the first in order of merit in the officers’ cadre was given to Flying Officer AD Adamu while the CAS Award for the first in order of merit in the airmen/airwomen’s category went to Corporal Eneye ME. The representative of the CAS and other invited guests were earlier treated to unarmed combat demonstration and tactical exercises, which included basic arms drill, commando self defence, command and control and assault mission during hostage taken crisis. The newly graduated Special Forces would form the crop of personnel to man the recently established Quick Response Wing in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
