President Muhammadu Buhari Friday hit back at Transparency International over its corruption perception index indicating that corruption was getting worse in Nigeria.

Buhari, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Malam Garba Shehu, described as misleading and unfair, the ranking of 148 given Nigeria out if 180 countries surveyed.
Shehu said President Buhari asked the anti-corruption watchdog to focus on facts, not fiction.

He said while the Presidency noted and welcomed constructive criticisms from the Transparency International, the organization has a responsibility to reflect the larger picture of the concrete and verifiable achievements of the Buhari administration since it came into office in May 2015.

He said the Presidency was still wondering the criteria or facts used by the anti-corruption watchdog to arrive at its very "misleading and unfair conclusions" in its assessment of the federal government's efforts in this anti-corruption crusade.

He said political will is the first major component of fighting corruption in any country and Buhari had made a huge difference by demonstrating it with the extraordinary courage to go after high profile looters, including former military service chiefs and judges.
He said the rating might turn out to be just a political distraction given the strong views some of Transparency International's patrons had expressed against the Buhari administration.

The presidential spokesman said notwithstanding, facts are facts, and those facts will not cease to be facts even if one does not care to pay attention to them.

Shehu stated: "It was once unthinkable to touch or prosecute the ‘‘big men’’ for corruption in Nigeria but President Buhari has ended impunity for corruption.
"Today, the Buhari administration has made accountability the bedrock of governance and corruption is no longer fashionable because it attracts consequences.

"Blocking leakages for corruption through the rigid enforcement of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) had made life tougher for corrupt officials. He regretted that these efforts were not acknowledged by the Corruption Watchdog."

He said the figures published by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission reveal that N738.9 billion was recovered in just two years of the Buhari administration "and this impressive and unprecedented record is worthy of mention and acknowledgement by anybody genuinely looking at the larger picture of the country's progress in the war against corruption.

This government's corruption fight is only a witch hunt aimed at the perceived enemies of the government.
This government has demonstrated this time without number while shielding the friends of the government and party members.
Transparency international is way right on this.

When Magu spend more time polishing his skull than convicting high profile looters, what do you expect?
is it really about how many looters you convicted? lets take a journey through history, in 2005, Nigeria jailed its police boss Tafa balogun for corruption, TI scored us 152/158, in 2017 we have an Efcc chairman that shines his skull more than he convicts high profile looters, TI scored us 148/180, when considering the fact that TI was founded by someone Buhari just briefly detained and another who has been writing love letters to get his attention, you sure can spot the Bias from a distance.

Not a single prosecution to his name and mind boggling corruption still keeps taking place from the school feeding program , to unauthorised withdrawals from NNPC account , unauthorised withdrawals from TSA, till date the NNPC under Buhari is still running secret accounts where massive unsupervised corruption keep taking place , a non transparent unsupervised petrol subsidy running into trillion with out approval of any known legal body including the senate , to a president that has refused to submit his WAEC certificate till date and refuse to bet court orders at will, a govt that is bias in fighting terrorism in Nigeria , a govt that approves the use of Air force assets to provide air support for Fulani herdsmen on rampage ...Mr Buhari if this isn't the lost brazen corruption of our govt we have seen till date then what is ...Buhari your govt is super corrupt!!

TI does not look at 'media trials'.

it looks at facts & the fact remain that pmb has reinstated people with questionable characters back into his administration.

the oil sector is now shrouded in even more secrecy than past administrations.

customs is being run like a sole proprietorship

the government claims to have recovered fantastic sums but refuses to tell Nigerians who the thieves are except when it suits their propaganda purposes...

billions of dollars have been borrowed & yet no appreciable infrastructural projects to point to...

billions are released to various ministries/parastatals, yet they deny spending any money even when there are no records to show such monies were returned to the treasury...

people like JFK, Amaechi, BRF & co have petitions with efcc, yet pmb turns a blind eye...

kyari, Lawal & co. continue to have access to power despite their corrupt practices...

the government claims to have saved billions, yet cannot implement just 20% of its budget...

TI is not dumb...

If Buhari can tell Nigerians where Yosuf got about 75million naira to buy a power bike, then I will agree he is fighting corruption otherwise he remains the chief-husband of corruption. A lover of corruption. In fact a corruption personified president

Obasanjo said it. The Catholic Bishops said it. Now, Transparency International is saying it. Even Amnesty Internation has its own issues. This incumbent should leave the seat for a younger, vibrant, intelligent, educated, detribalised, knowledgeable, scientific and visionary President. Nigeria needs to move forward.

PMB should stop lamenting. Corruption has been more instutionalised during his tenure. I'm not an advocate for GEJ, but he did fight corruption in institutions though individuals looted Nigeria dry. Under PMB, both are taking place on a monumental scale. He should stop complaining and go to work.
