it's like you already have some perceived notions or hold some grudge against me in your heart prior now....

because I can't even remember if we have had disagreement before...even if we had...I must have forgotten because I hardly keep things in mind...

I expected you to freely express your mind and prove my quotes wrong by posting your facts...

I have never watched dele play for a long time....you should have convinced me and everyone else popping through the thread why he deserve a place in the super eagles...

instead you just digress to something else even when I meant the bolded a joke.

This goalkeeper crisis don't tire me o lipsrsealed wetin sef i think the goalkeeper trainer put us in this crisis because when alampasu outshined both ezenwa and akpeyi in camp alloy agu never gave him his chance to see what he can offer us instead he took shaky shaky akpeyi against algeria in uyo now if uzoho outshined both akpeyi and ezenwa what is the assurance alloy agu will give him a chance ??

We just hope for the "best risk" to be chosen in the end. Like I said earlier, what we have in the GK role is not a competition but rather a choice of what risks to take best.... Honestly, it is tiring... Let the friendlies just come already... I don tire for the GK Situation...

I asked a question, during the qualifiers, how many goals came from his side?

There is nothing you can say here that will influence the coach's decision. He's been playing LB for us for more than 10 years and if he was that bad, he would have been dropped since. You can't tell me we don't have LBs all over the world. For different coaches to be using him, they all can't be silly and Rohr isn't silly either. Until the coach sees him surplus to requirements, there is nothing we say here that will change anything.
Humility017:

brother we are no longer living on the past.
you will agree wit me...that during the qualifiers elderson was our weakest link in the defense....then he was even in Turkey...though from some of his club highlights posted here...he played below par most times..
why can't we fix it...fix this defensive problem by putting round peg in round hole...

presently you can't compare a player like Aina and elderson....forget this experience talk...his so called experience will keep him glued to the bench had it been he was in the English championship......

I am not sayn he should be dropped indescrimately but presently those guys- Aina and ebuehi all proved better at the moment
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by somehow: 6:09pm On Feb 24, 2018
Idowu hasn't seen what Echiejile has seen in the SE, until then you cant even compare them.

Aina is good going forward but Echiejile is better defense wise. If you doubt me, watch the games both played for Nigeria of recent but with a neutral mind.

TheSuperNerd:
Call it yank off if it makes you feel better but all I did was to give you the context under which Rohr mentions Echiejile. You don't expect Rohr to dispose of Echiejile who featured in all important games of the WC Qualifiers and who has been Rohr's no.1 LB since he took over.... It won't happen. And herein lies our dilemma, Echiejile is not the force he once was and he was never even spectacular as our LB but he was decent. But now even his decency has dropped. But as long as he plays, he will make the team to Russia based on one solid parameter.... "Experience" backed up by his contributions during the WC qualifiers.

But we all know that if we go by quality alone.... He stands no chance against Idowu and Aina.

In Mikel's role, who challenges his quality? Who?

In Victor Moses' nko?? Who naa?

But in Echiejile... His quality is called into question in the presence of Idowu and Aina without question. Finito.

But in all... He will be in Russia unless injury stops him (God forbid).... **And I kinda feel some hands smack me from behind for saying God Forbid...** grin wink

Under-20 list: Nigeria’s lack of adequate database exposed

Newly-appointed Nigeria Under-20 coach Paul Aigbogun on Friday executed his first piece of task in charge of the national side – the release of a list of players with whom he intends to prosecute the qualifying series of the 2019 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

How efficient or accurate was Aigbogun’s ‘first touch’ as the Flying Eagles handler? Our Chief Football Writer FISAYO DAIRO takes a look at the list and believes that the cankerworm that has masticated on Nigerian football for years is not ready to go away.

To start with, it is expected (at least by my humble self) that the task of coaching the Under-20 team this year will not be an easy one for any coach in the land, let alone one that has a full day-to-day job.

This is so because the previous National Under-17 set which naturally should form the nucleus of this Under-20s failed to qualify for the African Championship and so, in our normal ways, discarded the lot – talk of throwing away the baby and the bath water.
Since there was almost nothing on ground in terms of structure or personnel to work with, one can imagine the sort of work Mr Aigbogun and his crew would have done just to put together a list of players that will be eligible to play for the country at that level.

The top flight league in Nigeria hardly helps his cause as league coaches (including the Under-20 handler) always favour ‘old’, recycled legs, most times at the detriment of emerging ones.
It is also not a surprise that the three Under-20 players who represented Nigeria at the recently held African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco were the first names on the list because, at least, they have a database aided by their participation in a major competition. For the rest of the selection, they are purely based on guessing and/or speculation on their eligibility since there is no articulate framework to run to.

Allegations of cheating

No sooner had the list been released by the Football Federation than analysts and journalists across Nigeria take to social media to express one reservation or the other about one, two or three players in the list of twenty-eight.

Their major yardstick which could be the only empirical evidence available in a country with abject disdain for record keeping like ours is; the number of seasons such player had played in Nigeria’s first two divisions.

Our findings

The first name that came to my attention was Douglas Achiv, a good central midfielder who was dropped at the dying minutes of preparation for CHAN 2018 by coach Salisu Yusuf.

I discovered that Achiv was also invited to camp by late Stephen Keshi for 2014 CHAN and featured for the first time in the NPFL for Lobi Stars in the 2013 season.

However, as being emphasised in this article, there is no record to prove or disprove that Achiv was just an exceptional 13-year old in 2013.

Also on the list is goalkeeper Ospino Egbe who is in his third NPFL season with Church side MFM FC of Lagos.

My findings reveal that Egbe was third choice goalkeeper at Ocean Boys of Brass in 2010 and famously had an auto accident with his teammate then, Okey Akabogu.

Ospino however seemingly went under the radar before resurfacing at MFM, perhaps making the selectors believe he is just playing his third league season. His case is however complicated by the tweet below, showing his year of birth as 1992.

One other player whose eligibility has been questioned incidentally is Moses Peter Eneji. He earned himself an infamous red card at the 2018 CHAN final and records available with the Confederation of African Football states that he was born on April 4, 1999.

Eneji, our findings revealed joined Dolphins FC (now Rivers United) in mid 2013/14 season from Unicem Rovers of Calabar but left the Port Harcourt side at the end of the season.

That suggests that the flying winger started his career so early and was brilliant enough to be playing for second division side UNICEM at 15.

Considering where Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa are coming from with regard to cases of age issues, it must be stated that 3/28 is a wonderful score but the problem inherent in this is the inability to trace the records of other players invited to the team. Players like Adesina Gata, Joseph Abiodun have also been speculated with traces of being overaged but where is the concrete evidence to lay claim to that?

It is glaring, even to the blind that this is a societal problem as not only footballers but civil servants, Professors and Politicians have been discovered to have falsified their ages at one time or the other. The society clearly gives these micro organisms enough broth and growth culture to manifest themselves in the future.

Since it is never too late to start, it can be recommended that the secrecy which has clouded the dates of births of players in the leagues must be removed so that everyone knows right from the onset.

With the advent of the laudable NPFL Under-15 Promises, there is an urgent need for players’ data to go directly into a database starting from the regional qualification level as that is the only way the league stars of ten, fifteen years to come can be monitored.

The NFF release included a clause which perhaps was suggestive that the Football House are in the dark as regards some of their dates of births and that has passed the message that this niggling thorn in the flesh of Nigerian football still basks in the absence of database.

“All invited players are to arrive at the Serob Legacy Hotel, Wuye, Abuja between Sunday, 25th February and Monday, 26th February, with their international passports, birth certificates and training kits.”

Is this based on recent matches you watched or just an assumption? Some of you are just looking for ways to Echiejile, unfortunately for you lot, the buck stops at the coach's desk and from recent statements, Echiejile is in his plans.

He played all qualifiers except the Algerian own which was due to injuries, so there is no "past glory" talk here.
komekn:

You don't live on past glories.

Echiejile was good in the past but we are talking present continous Echiejile is not old but his form has dropped very badly.

He is now a very obvious weak link in the team and in some regards s liability.

Uzoho has huge Potential, but potential ain't the same with Experience and the Former can't ever supersede the Latter.

How many World Class Players had he faced in his Career?! How many top flight Football had he featured?! He's good no doubt, but he needs Experience not Experiment.

Presently he's simply a Rookie, hence it's gonna be a huge Burden on him as Eagles No. 1. Akpeyi is one of the best Keepers in South Africa League, yet he falters in Eagles Color.

Psychologically would he be steady under intense Pressure?! Even World Class Keepers would jitter at the sight of the Imp's led Stars studded Argentina National Team.

The potential backline gonna features Players with no World Cup Experience, hence it will be suicidal to play a Rookie behind them. Uzoho can make the 23-Man List, but shouldn't be the No. 1 Goalie.

However, if the Technical Crew prefers him ahead of other keepers, then we gonna have to keep our Faith in him. I hope he's gonna be ready to prove the Doubters Wrong if he's eventually made the Eagles No. 1 at the Mundial.

Finally, our Players need to improve and up their Games. Gone are the Days our Players were playing for the Top Teams in Europe. The Days our Players were known for winning Titles as first Team Players not bench Warmers.

We were the Brazil of Africa in the 90s, but we've gradually depreciated to Saudi Arabia of Asia. I hope to see our Players playing for big Clubs across the Europe, not mid-table Clubs.

We should know something is WRONG if we are relying on a Rookie to be our No. 1 Choice. This ain't gonna improve the Team, hence we need our Players to be among the Best in the World.

Salah and Mane are killing it with Liverpool. Auba is bought for a huge Fee and sent a top rated french Striker to the Bench. Wanyama and Gueye ain't disappointing at their respective Clubs. Bailly is well respected at United, same as his Compatriot at Spurs.

Aside from Moses, and perhaps Iwobi, none of our Players are playing for top rated Clubs in Europe. I pray it's gonna change with the Pool of Players we are discovering across the World, also hope the Players ain't gonna limit theirselves to mid-table Clubs or go on Exile to the Turkish League.
The bolded is a myth. It never was so in reality. Please mention those players who played for top clubs that you talking about.

Having followed the league for sometimes now, I would say the list released is filled up with over aged players. I can only count less than 8 players that are within 20 years range, the rest are age cheats. It's so shameful that such a list would be released.

More reason I hardly support coaches from the league. It's just irritating that to comment on the list is just somehow to me.

So because Idowu "Neva see wetin Uncle Echiejile don see for GWG shirt".... that automatically makes Echiejile better abi? wink Are you not listening to my words at all? Do I talk longevity or Quality?

And Aina is below Echiejile defensively?? Did you watch Aina against Zambia when he came in? Did you watch him too against Algeria? So you want me to limit myself to just the Argentina first half of Aina abi? cheesy I wont even go into Aina's records at Hull. I wont even bring in his defensive game stats there. Would be unfair to Echiejile. Let me keep things on just GWG.

You think Echiejile would have fared better against a fast and super skilful Cristian Pavon?! cheesy Chaaiiiii....

I repeat, Echiejile is Rohr's no.1 LB because of his experience and nothing else. And don't tell me you aren't aware that we have not had the luxury of LB options for a while now until Idowu and Aina came into the picture.

I rest my case.

Remember the 1st goal we conceded against SA? Where the heck was Echiejile. We've seen him not just once, not twice but multiple times ran over and disgraced by opposing wingers.

You seriously waiting for us to concede 5 goals from his wing before you know he's an awful LB at the moment? For Christ's sake, the last time I checked, He wasn't starting for a Belgian div 2 clubside?

What has kept him in the team this long is lack of competition in his role. What will continue to keep him there is nothing more than sentiments, both because he can do any better than Idowu.

We didn't miss him when he was injured at the last WC, we definitely won't miss him if he fails to make it to Russia.

Very annoying to say the least.

They would later complain that the NFF prefers hiring foreign coaches.

Why won't NFF require foreign handler? To prosecute a simple assignment as selecting real u-20 ballers is a problem.

They wine and dine with mediocrity all their lives. They won't prove themselves with such simple tasks.

The funny thing is with all these old papas, we might still get thoroughly beaten in the African championships.

Right now, with the quality of goalkeepers we have, i would actually favour Uzoho to take the number 1 shirt.

The man has kept 11 clean sheets in 16 games this season. That is not an easy feat.

Yes, you can argue that it is division 3 but did what level are our NPFL players playing? Ezekiel Bassey left the NPFL and could not make the cut in Barca B, which is a division 3 side. Is our NPFL better than that level?

Rivers united played a villarael B side and could not beat them. It was a 2:2 draw, i believe.

Right now, Uzoho compares very well with what is on ground.

If these games are first team games for his club side in La Liga, then I will agree with you.

Otherwise no.

^^^Evidence of age-cheating in the newly released under 20 list...

A much better report than the OGN report..
so pathetic....
you know the nff should be blamed for this...
someone like finidi who was ready to do the job jostle for this coaching role but he was denied....and now we have a lazy coach who can shout academics all over the country to look for talented players to put together and harness....
even manu garba will do better....

Actually it's getting to the point where potential is much better than established old mediocrity.

I want to hope that we at least have one good quality goal keeper playing first team football at a decent level.

I am sorry to say I do not know any one. The last one I knew was playing for Burnley fc U23 and was facing the normal black man issues we experience here.

So he felt he wasn't going to get opportunities.

Otherwise I dint know.

somehow:
A less than 45 mins performance can be used to displace years of service? Well I won't say much here since the coach is in charge. Most of what we type here stays here so why stress myself?

I know the decision is yet final and didn't say Echiejile is a confirmed started at LB, all depends on the coach, just trying to drum reality into the "Echiejile must not be in Russia crew".

BTW, all through the qualifiers, how many goals came from his side of the pitch? He's not the best but not the worst either.

Friendlies are coming and hopefully we will see more of these players before then (I mean the new boys).
Years of service will not be an albatross on our necks. Performance is what counts now

The U20 Handlers should have picked majority from the Pool of Academy Players and very few from the NPFL.

You can't avoid age-cheating by picking from the League, except you are so sure of their real Ages. The List should be canceled and fresh one should be made in due Time.

so unfortunate to read about the Burnley under 23 goal keeper....still don't understand why we still don't have a black skinned goal keeper in the epl and championship....may be you can throw more light into this...I will appreciate.
anyway that's a story for another day...

from your comments it is very obvious uzoho is the best chioce we have...I still believe the black skin problem is likewise telling on his devt in Spain...because from all indices had it been he was a Spanish or a Latino he would have been playing for this first team by now...

black goal keepers don't have it easy in European leagues except in the French League....many clubs rarely give them that opportunity....

so I think uzoho is not a bad gamble...for a player to have kept such number of clean sheet in the reserve team is no child's play...that league I will see to be more organized than the npfl...

Kanu - Ajax, Inter, Arsenal.

Taribo - Inter, AC Milan, Auxerre.

Okocha - Frankfurt, PSG, Fernabache.

Amokachi - Besiktas, Everton.

Amunike - Sporting CP, Barcelona.

Ikpeba - Monaco, Dortmund.

Babangida - Ajax

Finidi - Ajax, Betis

Babayaro - Anderlecht, Chelsea.

Oruma - Marselle.

Uche - Fernabache

Olishe - Ajax, Juventus, Dortmund.

....... and so on.

Are you satisfied or you still want more?!
I have done the analysis here before on this point. It would be too much work for me to do another one again.

Let's take Kanu at Ajax and Inter cos the way you mentioned those clubs is the way someone could mention Vicmo for Chelsea when he wasn't a regular at all. Do you know it was Finidi who was a regular at Ajax not Kanu? And you boldly put Inter there when you and I know Kanu didn't play much for Inter. Do check how many times most of these players played for these clubs.
