Implementation will likely take effect in January 2019, just a few weeks before the election. The different ministries, agencies and States can/will use Sept to Dec 2018, to update it's payroll with the new minimum wage.

Now, who amongst the MDAs and state governments that will pay or not is now the question! Those generating their revenue will not have any issue though.

Over 180 million (based on 2007 census) are directly or indirectly earning a meager of 18 thousand Naira minimum wage while u as a retired general has been eaten fat both before and now yet, you have the gut to say u are yet to announce a certain new minimum wage amount.
Maybe, u are waiting for ur daft minister for finance who has gone underground for a while to device a new means of getting the money back from the poor masses, either by increasing the price of commodity or another way!!!!

Well said! It makes no sense to talk of a minimum wage increase, when even paying the current N18,000 rate is an unsustainable burden for most of the states. It's bad enough as it is that public-sector wages consume most state IGR and federal allocations, leaving almost nothing for basics like roads, schools and primary healthcare. And even if we assume the FG will always come to the rescue of the states by bailing them out indefinitely, where exactly will the money for the FG bailouts come from?

The current administration is already borrowing heavily from the international bond markets to finance its expenditures, and thanks to American shale producers, oil prices are not going to be heading any higher for the foreseeable future, so the only way the FG will be able to subsidize the (already insolvent) states after raising the minimum wage is either through even more borrowing, at ever higher interest rates, or through simply printing money - which means runaway inflation. Any talk of increasing the minimum wage at this point is simply political pandering of the most cynical kind, playing to the Nigerian expectation that "government" is Father Christmas, able to shower them with all sorts of goodies without limit.

Don't mind the clown. A lot of Nigerians seem to believe that merely pointing out a flaw in a proposal is an attempt to somehow sabotage it, so they get angry when anybody interferes with their fantasies by attempting to inject a note of reality.

They want to deceive us again. Please let us not be carried away by this deceit. The end is near ...2019 on my mind.

Stupid government why waiting till the 4th quarter of the year? in. Case they don't know.. minimal wages is not part of their achievement....... its their money ... they worked for it and moreover its long overdue.
