livelystone: Then help him to strengthen his pincer grips. Some exercises include -pegging. Give him pegs to open and peg the edges of a cup, bowl or even hard paper. He should use only his thumb, fore and middle fingers. - google how to make a lace frame card (all you need is a strong cardboard and a punching machine) then you get him a shoestring and practice lacing. Insist on him using his thumb and his fore finger only to hold the string. - in a small bowl, put a small quantity of raw rice and raw beans and lead him to separate them by sorting into different bowls. Watch that he uses his thumb, fore and middle fingers to pick ( these 3 fingers are needed to write and he has to learn to make them work together and be strong) -print pictures of his favorite cartoon character and encourage him to hold the crayon with these aforementioned fingers. You can also learn colors simultaneously. - print tracing pictures of lines. Vertical, horizontal, circular, diagonal. Once he conquers this and can write them without tracing lines, move on to curves and then spiral lines that curve in many directions. -painting. He should hold the brush with his pincer grip and use more wrist action than shoulders. All these are play method of teaching kids. It won't take up to 5 minutes and you can leave him to it. If he makes a mess of his rice and beans, insist that he tidies it up himself. You can even do the pegging on the bed before sleep. If you do this on a steady basis, you'll find that his grip will be stronger and writing all letters or numbers won't seem to be an issue for him. He'll also be good at drawing shapes and objects. 18 Likes 27 Shares |

zaynie: Just to add to the bolden - my DD uses pegs and pretends is a crocodile and goes "slap- slap slap. - cocodile." or when i do laundry, i give her one sock to help me peg - that will keep her busy for at least 5 mins. Lemme comman bring my mat, slate and chalk! learning mode activated! 5 Likes |

casler: I'm not a female or mother but I guess my answer should be welcome. The summary of it is that you have to teach! When I was young (over 5 years), my dad would buy writing books for us and it helped a lot. Sogo buy them writing books (loads of them) and ask the child to practice, practice and practice some more. Then different children have different character traits! Some are always in a hurry (typical me), some are very meticulous (my elder brother). I guess you can tell who has the better handwriting. So study your child too. If the child just started using pens instead of pencil, it'll take some time to adjust and his or her books will be soiled often (happened a lot to me). You women dey try... Cheers!!!! 9 Likes |

casler: You welcome Ma. While at it, it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy Lamb's Tales from Shakespeare, Brighter Grammar, Charles Dickens, etc. If you are Yoruba, D.O. Fagunwa's books are highly recommended. Don't know of any Igbo or Hausa famous authors that write all their novels in their native tongue. babythug: Which of the juices? Morning Senior Mamas... I'm very loyal o... So I have a 15month old who has zero interest in cartoons, books or even mobile kids apps. She prefers to climb the sofa or re-arrange her shoes, any open bag or any items within her reach. They have even nicknamed her 'supervisor' in school, cos she doesn't like sitting in the creche anymore. She'd rather move from class to class to play with other kids. Shld I b worried? She is due for preschool by September (she ll b 22 months by then), and I'm wondering how they'll get her to sit in 1 place. Also is it too late or early to start potty training?..The one or 2 times I made an attempt, she screamed her lungs out, and ran off with the potty cover on her head. Pls what am I doing wrong? |

@ enque- welcome I guess all children wont be the same. My toddler too jas minimal interest in tv and screens unlike many other children. His interests are with other stuff just like your little girl . It's not abnormal in my opinion. I guess one can just try to stimulate them via thier interests and use those periods as teaching opportunities so if she's scattering the shoes you may as well show her how to arrange afterwards! They all climb just try to make the area as safe as possible! The school will know what to do as per keeping her still when the time comes. She seems to be ball of energy. Try some supervised coloring sessions with her . And let her play outside too to burn off the energy. Maybe a tricycle too if she doesn't already have one! Hope this helps |

Good evening all, please is it right for a boy of 29months to still be on diapers? Also I have children of ages : 5+ and 4+ still using nappy to sleep (I always find it difficult to wake up at night to take them to pee) |
Re: The Graduation Spot And Other Room! by babythug(f): 3:54am On Mar 02, 2018 |
chii8: The onus is mostly on you to get your toddlers out of thier diapers! Depending on your circumstances and the child's development many children at age 2 will have put away diapers. Of course there will be a few toilet accidents till about age 4 but most children will be out of diapers. As for the toddlers sleeping in diapers again it's you or your spouse/help who have the responsibility of helping them to the loo during the night. You may even do this till they're aged 10 It's all based on individual choices though 1 Like |

babythug: CC Chii8 Regarding this potty training business, I sincerely believe the convinience of disposable nappies have made parents lazy - in the 50's the average age of potty training was 15 months...... how come in 2018 it has doubled to 30 months 2 Likes |
