I think the shares was to employees as part of their employee value proposition.

They are just coming from loss positions. They did not earn any oil revenue for close to a year. They need to deleverage their balance sheet before thinking of paying dividend.

Only in Nigeria do you do a rights issue and go ahead to pay dividend.

Why do you want them to pay dividend? They are expanding now so need all the money. They are doing a gas project now in the Ohaoji (sp) axis. Also previous losses must have eaten into their retained earnings.

I think they have a conference call today or tomorrow. That's good corporate governance is my books.

Honestly the part in bold couldn't be truer !!
Frankly u just took the words out of my mouth Boss.
...Cash preservation is needed more than ever right now. ...for that's what makes for the definition of a sound and right thinking management. ...for which SEPLAT PETROLEUM undoubtedly belongs to.

Btw they actually had the conference call ealier today. ...where management gave a briefing on their Hedging stretegy, expected upcoming projects plus an update around their just concluded credit facility.

For those in the boat, this report from ARM investment might be of some interest to u;

In all, I still have one or 2 course for concern. ...but their result was indeed fantastic !!

They have just employed a new executive director who is more like DMD. He was recruited to take over from the current Austin. That is succession planning for you.

Board changes
The Company announced in March that Stuart Connal retired from his role as COO and executive director effective 31 March
2017. The board, management and all staff would like to thank Mr Connal for his significant contribution to Seplat in the last
few years. On the 23 February 2018, the Company announced the appointment of Effiong Okon to its board as Operations
Executive Director.

I love the way they manage/mitigate their risks. The oil industry is all about risk management. The hedging strategy is one. The Amukpe/Escravos line is another. The Warri Jetty is also there. They've also worked on the reconciliation factor.

The Ahaoji project is a game changer for them. Now they can compete with the IOC's in project execution and delivery! They demonstrated it on Oben and based on that got a share of the Asa North/Ahaoji project from SPDC.

If you want a REAL OIL Company. You have one here!

Game set

Dividend

During a period in which Seplat’s key focus has been on preservation of liquidity and selective capital allocation to ensure the
Company maintains a necessary level of financial flexibility the Board believes that the Company and its shareholders are
better served at this point in time by selectively deploying available capital (on a discretionary basis) into the portfolio of
production opportunities and preserving a liquidity buffer.

...Once again u have spoken very well !!
To be very honest, one of the core things that attract me to investing in an oil firm is clearly the part of ur post in bold.
...This is what separates the 'real men' like SEPLAT to 'the boyz' like OANDO. ...for an inept and poor risk mitigation has been one sure way to describe the management of a company like OANDO in recent times. ...if only OANDO had managed that part well.

For me, the 2 cardinal risk for oil firms within this sector are;
1) a lower than expected price in oil
and
2) deceleration in production levels.

Any firm with a sound and proactive management would have to put things in place to curb the usual downside impact that comes with these 2 risk. ...and that's exactly what SEPLAT PETROLEUM had, and are still doing.
To add to the areas of risk mitigation u mentioned, I'd like to state that managements effort at creating 3 alternative export routes is also one of the greatest measures to help curb any future impact that may arise from happenings that could give birth to low production levels.
Last year, the company suffered a major drawback from the force majeure on TFP occasioned by the many troubles within the Niger delta region. ...to help abate that, they put out the needed effort to create those additional export channels.
That to me is one sure way to tell a company with a robust management team. ...a company that studies the past because they want to devine the future.
Again looking at their just released result, except for 1 or 2 personal concern, there's a few more reasons for one to be optimistic going into 2018. ...so quite frankly, I care less if they don't pay any dividend.
...and unless things change for bad tomorrow, SEPLAT PETROLEUM is without a doubt one coy to be associated with !!

Kudos to the management team !!. ...I think they sure do know their onion well.

They should do cost cutting. They will save more when they reprice services, localise some training and trips, asset review and sales etc. This is the only way to lower your costs. Check Total result.

They rewarded themselves with 25m shares worth close to 17b. They increased their salaries too. 2 years without dividend is an issue BOSS[B]

Bigger hype was given to AFREN trading on the main board of LSE with operations in Cote D' Ivoire, Nigeria etc. Where is AFREN now? Seplat is just riding on Nigerian investors' perpetual thirst for any company into oil business especially UPSTREAM.

This is what killed and is killing many bank's loan books. Keep getting sucked into giving loans to companies with businesses dependent on hard commodities and shunning soft commodities. The irony of life.

Seplat is a complicated company: the books, transparency, operations, ownership and liabilities.

My Oga is'nt it obvious that one of the factors that boasted their return to profitability was the lowering of operating cost?
...is'nt that also a cost cutting measure?
Though I admit that Total might have done better in that regard. ...so like u said, they still need to do more. ...and given past precedence, I think they will.

With SEPLAT, I believe it was a case of a large chunk of earnings coming from defered tax credit. ...this is one of the 2 small concern I have.
However, I think that overall the company performed exceptional well when u consider there position as at last year.

25m units for N17b. This is like N680 per unit.

They could have given their employees at 20% discount rather than selling at close to market price. They could have gone to the market to buy it.

Me thinks it is a strategic investment o from outsiders.

Every company that made a loss in the previous year always look to perform better in the following year even if they made $10 to 20m PAT. Na reset. I'm not moved by such reset. It is bound to happen.

Please who can recommend a good online platform for trading on the NSE? I was told that some platforms do not actually enable you to buy real time but they only use it to receive orders. Then the platforms brokers now execute.

I will also appreciate advise on the website that can provide analysis and review of stock performance. Finally, abeg what is the recommendation on FBNH and ACCESS bank?

To the best of my knowledge, all trading platforms right now are connected directly to the NSE. There is nothing like platform brokers, maybe you are talking about backend officers who helps if you are having issues.

MeriTrade, iTrade, EazyTrade are highly recommended.

To get information on stock performance, you can check Nairametrics, Proshare, FT, Bloomberg
