I use a Honda Accord 2004. Suddenly I noticed the car won't take off instantly anymore. When I try it is like the car is very heavy. I was told to check the Exhaust, Plugs, ATF and fuel pump which I did. But the problem is still there. Although it runs well when you just drive it normal. But it doesn't allow instant take off to overtake. Please what could be the problem?

Hello,
I have been having this issue with my 2007 Honda Accord I4 for a very long time now, and it is getting worse.

1. The car auto revs on its own in park and neutral . Once you start it, goes Voom! Voom! Voom! With the tach going up and down continously.

2. It jerks with a thud, when changing from park to reverse or from neutral to drive.

3. On motion, the vehicle drives itself as there is no throttle response and does not exceed 40km/hr. There is also a slight thud when it shifts from gear 1-2 and when downshifting too. I can only control it with the brake at this point. The engine sound is also very high.

Initially, this issues happen intermittently , in that, the car would drive well for like a month, and then the issue will come up suddenly, say for 2 days and everything becomes normal afterwards, but it has been very consistent recently and the car is beginning to stall on motion.

Overtime, I have scanned the car and got codes related to throttle body, throttle position sensor, and online checks suggest the culprit could also be a vacuum leak.

I have replaced about 3-4 throttle bodies, the latest being a brand new one I ordered online.I have also replaced my intake tube,ECU, replaced sensor plugs,e.t.c, still the issue has persisted.

Presently, I have codes P2135 and P2176.

I have been going about this diagnosis myself because I stay in bonny island,Rivers State, and here, there are no competent mechanics or auto electricians that can tell me what the problem is.

I would appreciate if anyone with such experience could point out what I could do to resolve the issue or refer me to a very competent auto mech or electrician in port Harcourt that could help me resolve this issue.

Thank you.

A dirty idle air control valve could be the cause of this. Especially if you have tried cleaning your throttle body previously, some carbon particles might have been dislodged into the IACV to worsen an aleady likely carbon build up in the IACV.

It jerks with a thud, when changing from park to reverse or from neutral to drive

Torn engine mounts and/ or transmission mounts can give you this. Inspect these mounts.

You can also feel a thud when changing from park to reverse (but not from neutral to drive) if your car is parked on a slope and the e-brake not properly engaged, such that the car relied on gear braking.

Again you may feel a thud while changing gears if your transmission fluid level is low. Inspect your transmission fluid level.

Yes, sounds like a throttle position sensor/ throttle body issue. Did you do a relearn procedure after installing your new throttle body?

Since you have changed your throttle body, check the harness of your TPS to see if properly connected. You might need to replace TPS in the worst case scenario, if it turns out that TPS is faulty.

Generally, follow this stepwise approach:
1) Remove IACV, clean and reinstall
2) Check TPS harness for proper connection
3) Check transmission fluid level. Top if needed. Be guided by your owner's manual please.
4) Do a throttle body relearn procedure
5) Inspect your engine and transmission mounts. Replace if necessary.

Cheers!

Your vehicle should be using a drive by cable and as such, you may have to replace the actuator mechanism alongside your damaged engine seats.

please what do you mean by the actuator mechanism? If it's that mechanism that has a sensor and wire that goes to the pedal, I have changed that too. Are you referring to the accelerator pedal position sensor?

What can cause a vehicle not to rev beyond 5,000rpn in park? The vehicle seems to cut off just at the 5k rpm mark.
2004 Honda Accord V6

That is normal sir, It a protection against spoiling your engine? Its not a racing car so you don't need to rev that high

How can someone see the yellow label written HCF-2 on the dip stick of his transmission and ask a mechanic to pour in ATF-DW1 inside a 2014 Honda Accord transmission for him?

The guy was seated with a cold bottle of Aquadana water while the mechanic was busy and sweating pouring in the fluid alongside a 5W-20 Castrol engine oil into his vehicle.

I shook my head and walked on at our area, Willoughby here.

If you try telling them, they look at you as if you are desperate to sell your own items, so i don't bother.

Better stock up with a replacement gearbox and give him your card. Tell him he'll need it sooner or later.

4 possible sensors in the V6, 2 in the 4cylinder.

For a question as such, we need engine size and position of sensor on exhaust system
