so how is that relevant 2d question i asked u?it seems my questions bring u face to face with reality. u clearly don't have answers 4 simple questions. there are legal frameworks within which a govt must operate while discharging its obligation so far d akwa ibom state govt isn't operating under any legal framework by "eliminating" excuses. Akwa ibom is the safest state in Nigeria.
Lagos where they are located is the most insecure state in Nigeria. Fact, Lagos is the only state in Nigeria where school kids are kidnapped in their schools outside the North east.

Wake up from your dream.
The lazy youths of the Niger-Delta won't let oil companies rest, always demanding for more compensation.
I haven't seen any youths block the gates of a company in Lagos while demanding for their "rights".
NLNG is situated in bonny island, rivers because the place is isolated from the madness going on in the state.
Moving to Akwa-Ibom isn't just about paying tax to the government but it involves paying tax to all Akwa-Ibom
youths who would seize the opportunity to start extorting the companies.

Ask yourself why a company that operates in many states of the Niger-Delta should relocate to Akwa-Ibom and
exclusively pay tax to the Akwa-Ibom government?
Are Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa inferior?

Given that some of the oil companies operate in many states in the Niger-Delta, how do you share the headquarters?

Oil companies left because of lack of safety and security, violence and kidnappings.

You can not guarantee their safety and security with office building..

You yorubas are very much despicable. The last study that actually analyzed the crime rates of your niggeria using your own government stats, southwest ranked higher than south south in kidnapping. People gets kidnapped more in southwest than south south and especially Akwa ibom. Everyone knows AK is one of the safest state in that niggeria yet you clowns are condemning this move that is actually good based on the sole claim "they'll be kidnapped"? Are you fucking serious?

Why are you yorubas so hypocritical? Just why? It's funny the set that claim to be fighting for resource control are actually antagonist against a state attempt to actually achieve that reource control. Everyday you people prove to us that your so called resouce control fighting/agitation is nothing more than a show. Any time there's an attempt to fix this obvious wrong and daylight thievery, the people that oppposes it are always una that pretends to be fighting for "resource control".

Well una better get prepared because others are waking up for the thievery of this. It is highly disgusting that a company would take resources from a region, destroy the livelihood of the indigenous of the people as well as expose them to possible chemical waste and potential mutations of their future offsprings but yet barely compensate them for it instead give it to another region that isn't the one dealing with the danger of their works. You guys better get used to it because Akwa-Ibom isn't the only state fighting for their right. River state is also in the back doing the same and i bet you and you can quote me on this anyday, sooner or later, other states will join in that fight. If exxon refuses to to relocate then they should drop their work in Akwa ibom and drill the so called oil that Lagos claim they found.

Wild geese chase or white elephant project, either of the two. After building it, if Mobil refuses to become a tenant, what happens? Big question and I am just wondering. A typical example of a government by men with little or zero idea.

They have no choice but to relocate. You can't be destroying others but yet compensating another. It's highly stupid. Let them continue making any excuses they like; soon they will have to decide whether continue working or relocate everything including that their drilling to the location of their hq base.

I remember in 2003/2004 when Gov. Attah brought the Congressional Black Caucus of the US congress to Uyo to persuade Mobil to relocate its HQts to AKS.

the then MD gave reasons like
No good roads, Hotels, Airport, etc.

AKSG has gone to work to eliminate those excuses, the current one is, no Standard office accomodation.
by Gods grace that will be eliminated too. and the truth will emerge.

Akwa ibom people are smart, inteligent and patience people, It took our forefathers 1928 to 1987 to achieve the creation of Akwa ibom state. with hard work and persistence it was achieved. Our ancestors started the agitation for state creation in this country that everyone is enjoying now, others got it first we were denied for a long time, but we persisted.

We agitated for abrogation of onshore offshore oil dichotomy for a long time, It was denied, finally we got it.

ibaka deep seaport has been on the works since 1957 with hard work it is slowly coming to fruition despite opposition from the usual sources.

We will get it done as usual.

I told you under what conditions Exxon would change mind but you guys are betting in a skyscraper being answer to everything.

Governor Emmanuel who reacted to the current state of the existing Governor’s lodge in Lagos wondered if the opposition elements wanted high profile meetings with consular generals and international business executives to be held in such a dilapidated building.

In a 2005 letter addressed to a U.S-based Nigerian environment activist, Tom-Mbeke Ekanem, the oil company said, “Mobil has three businesses in Nigeria which are managed by one Lead Country Manager. It is essential that the headquarters of each of those businesses be consolidated in one office where support services can be shared.

“Lagos offers each of those businesses a convenient and well-suited hub from which all three businesses can be efficiently conducted and coordinated by that manager.”

The company said another reason why they wouldn’t relocate their head office was that their “primary federal government contacts in Nigeria” were based in Lagos.

International companies are not easily bullied.

If they don't like it, they should seize to operate here then.

Other companies would be glad to take over.

Let's stop sucking up to these multi-nationals because of the love for 'forex'.

We give ourselves over to neo-colonialism and exhibit such lack of self-worth in our national identity.

You can't go to the US/a European country and dictate your preferences to them.

Are request laws? If they didn't pass a law then their request means nothing. There's no ground to sue them on or tax penalty for non compliance. Think about this for a second of there a law in place why would state bother building them a building?

How exactly can they tell any firm where to locate their HQ. Should they have right to tell you were to locatate your business HQ?
It's the most appropriate thing to do... Almost all Oil Drilling Companies are located in TX or Louisiana, not Washington DC or NY. You cannot drill resources from State A and then pay taxes in State B. It's just not right.

......and they told you Mobil (or any oil producing company for that matter) is not paying tax to Akwa Ibom State (or state where oil is extracted)?

Every State Government has a lodge in Lagos and/or Abuja.
It's been on for years.
Lagos is more or less the gateway into the country, so I think it's only reasonable for them to have a suitable place to lodge visitors or dignitaries in Lagos before going over to the State.

Bros,

You speak too ignorantly on this matter. You are better off finding out what Oil states have done with the billions they've received over the years from the Oil companies, also find out how these "youths" had opted cashed out instead to infrastructural development in their localities.

Let the descendants of sabos enjoy their fathers sabo results.

You are aware that Akwa ibomites fought for Biafra than they did Nigeria during biafra war?

You are aware that it was an Akwa Ibomites that spoke up and still very much active on discussing how the 3rs after the war was never implemented on the regions that was affected by the war instead it was implemented in sw and North. Something even the igbo leaders are highly quiet on.

You are aware the first non igbo to speak up in the senate against awera quit notice to igbo

You are aware the set who started and motivated a reprisal quit notice by SS to northern over their quit notice to igbos was started by an Akwa Ibomites. Likewise the most endorsements of that reprisal was Akwa ibomites and CR.

You are aware the only non igbo senate that opposed ipob and biafra but never asked for their death, instead called them "our children we should dialogue with" unlike the rest was an Akwa ibomite

You are aware an ibibio was killed by NA for protesting with Ipob likewise, some of them are currently in jail for engaging with ipob protest.

You are aware the only non igbo governor to honor biafra war heros was again an Akwa ibomite.

If there's people not to call a sabo, Akwa ibomites are those people. The biggest allies of Igbo have always been Akwa ibomites and I'm not saying this because my best friend is an Akwa ibomite but because your own damn history teaches you this. Infact, if you check your dna there's no fucking doubt you have an Akwa ibomite blood running through your veins. We have been intermarrying with them, well technically the ibibios..idk about the others, the most even before Niggeria was ever created and before oil was discovered. The only reason you may not be aware of this is because Akwa ibomites, well technically the ibibios idk about the others, try and assimilate within our community hence you more likely find an akwa ibomites that speaks, read and write igbo but yet you rarely find igbos that does so instead you see more igbos speaking yoruba or hausa aka the tribes that does not even like us. In my opinion, I personally think they have more right to call us sabos than we do. In my honest opinion, I personally believe Igbo are not replicating the same love they give us as much as we should. I personally believe we're being selfish on that aspect because I cannot for the life of me understand why igbos try to please or care the opinion of North or yoruba (people that repeatedly shown their disdain for us) yet neglect to care the opinion of the ibibios ( a group that's always stood by our side since God knows how long now). I can't speak for other Akwa ibomite groups hence i didn't mention them. And I'm not saying this because of my bestfriend...na noone directed my opinion towards that direction. I'm saying it because i read our history. We should do better in regards to them. And you calling them sabos is wrong. Go read your history girl.

GEJ should have fought for resource control when he was the president, if he did that, then ExxonMobil might relocate to akwa ibom

It's not impossible with right deal. Tax incentives, saftey and OGFZ could sway their opinion. Building stuff nobody asked for is just dumb. Only Nairaland clowns and Akwa Ibom state governor try to bully people with non existent directives.

My first.....and repeated impression each time I read the piece. It seems dumb people just emerge in govts these days. Instead of the guy to address the building as a state's govt investment in real estate business, he simply showed his naivity thinking a 21 story building will be an incentive to Mobil.

FYI, many of these Oil majors did relocated their HQ to ND but beat a hasty retreat, due to insecurity (kidnappings and killings). Think about it, what it costs Mobil to engage Bristol Helicopters to fly their engineers from Lagos straight to oil platforms and back is nothing compared to losses incurred to insecurity
