Okowa Commissions Multi-Billion Dollar Steel Company In Aladja ...Calls For Steady Efforts For Technological Growth MULTI-BILLION Dollar Premium Steel Rolling Mill was commissioned today(02/03/18) by Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to commence full operations after years of inactivity. Formerly known as Delta Steel Company (DSC) Plc, Ovwian- Aladja, Governor Okowa observed that functionality of the steel company was very vital to the technological development of the nation. “This is the right step if we must develop in Nigeria, as a nation, we must encourage development of infrastructure,” Governor Okowa said, adding, “it is sad that this place was abandoned for years because, there is no doubt that if we must grow technologically, we must produce our own steel.” He continued, “the reopening of this structure has brought excitement to Delta State government, government and the people of Udu in particular, we are very hopeful that their production output will surpass their previous ouput.” The Governor disclosed that the management of Premium Rolling Mill would harness the huge oil and gas deposit in the area to also, establish a petrochemical company in the area. He commended the Federal Government, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria and other stakeholders for the different roles they played for the company to be back on stream asserting, “obviously, there is a lot to be gained as a people and government, we will remain peaceful and the company should take note of local content in their activities.” Minister of Mines and Steel, Mr Kayode Fayemi and the Managing Director of AMCON, Mr Ahmed Kuru who spoke through Mr Okoronkwo Onwukwe thanked Governor Okowa’s administration for the roles it played for the steel company to be back to life. “We sincerely thank Delta State government ably led by Dr Okowa for all his supportive roles, without which, we would not have been here for this commissioning; we must do everything under our power to protect this industry,” Mr Kuru said. In a welcome address, Chief Executive Officer of Premium Steel Rolling Mill, Mr Prasnata Mishra said, “it was shocking to be confronted with the fact that the legacy of the erstwhile Delta Steel Company originally commissioned in 1982 was left in terrible state as the plant was in total shamble and deplorable shape when Premium Steel acquired it; we therefore retooled it with state-of-the-art equipment for competitive production.” “The company's one million ton liquid steel capacity plant responsible for reinforcing Nigeria with steel and allied products, we are targeting at least 5,000 jobs directly and indirectly, we shall touch the lives of over 30, 000 Nigerians in the first instance before we start calculating the secondary opportunities it creates,” Mr Mishra stated. 6 Likes 2 Shares

Wow...my place of birth. Delta steel company was once one of the biggest organization in Nigeria. Hope things pick up quickly I won't be surprised if these indians turn that place around in less than two years. After seeing how they've successfully managed eleme petrochemical which was in shambles before taking over, things may work after all 6 Likes |

It's a good start..... industrialization starts with steel. If the plant is not mismanaged, it'll mark the beginning of heavy industry in d country. |

Do you mean Dr Kayode Fayemi, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development spoke thru Mr Okoronkwo Onwukwe and thanked Governor Okowa’s administration. Why was he not present?. He was also absent at the invitation of the House of reps recently This is not good enough He is busy doing what?? By the way, who owns this facility? Sold to a foreign company? Destiny of our children sold out Although I appreciate the project, It is a colossal shame to a nigerian state that cannot manage and maintain its resources 1 Like 1 Share |

No country who's SERIOUSLY into the metal industry can ever be poor. The metal industry, especially the steel one, was one of the world's largest makers of billionaires before the advent of the ICT era. The US became rich today partly owing to the wealth gotten from steel (and private citizens such as the likes of Andrew Carnegie, J. Pierpont Morgan and of course car makers Henry Ford were even the ones in charge). Same with Russia, UK, Japan, Australia. Etc. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

I did my IT here in 2010. At least this company was taking over 80 IT students then. And this experience changed my life as my software dev started here. As at then, this company was crumbling aa OBJ leased it to Mittal Steel from India then. Indians crumbled the company in connivance with Nigerian Govt. Salaries were not paid etc.. Good if the company comes back though |
