iamdannyfc: I very well know this and I admire this about the yorubas. ...But one question, how come with all the educated and cultural cherishing yoruba people in Kwara state (Kwara south especially). How come only the Saraki family and few other Ilorin elites rule the entire Kwara state like a private family business? And promote Fulani interests in the state? |

Nowenuse: What about the marriages between Igbos and Yorubas which happens every weekend? |

DoTheNeedful: Yorubas and Igbos to a large extent share same values for liberalism, freedom, equality, education, progress and westernization. All of these which are against fulani culture. |

Nowenuse: Yeah but you are taking it to the extreme. Marriages like this happen sometimes but it is not frequent. My senior in secondary school who is a pure Igbo man married a Fulani girl. I know another very similar marriage. Does that mean that Igbos marry Fulani. Marriages between people of dissimilar orientations do occur albeit rarely. Amokachi married a muslim Tunisian. Alakija's son married an Iranian. So long as this life continue to exist, there will always be such marriages but infrequently. |

Nowenuse: My good friend letbus both share knowledge. I understand the rationale behind your consciousness about the fulani based on what you've seen around you as a plateau man but the thing is, it's a different game in the south. we have a lot of elites in yorubaland that are very much conscious of happening's around. make no mistake they will never support a Fulani agenda that will encroach their culture. Yoruba value culture a lot Their are thousands of Yoruba elite that won't even marry outside of their ethnic group at all no matter how exposed and educated that are. between, we have a history with the Fulani that we've won all confrontation from them e.g read up on jalumi war I don't want to use Ilorin, I want to posit from kwara POV. you see the Ilorin emirate doesn't go beyond the emirate as you can see the surrounding towns in kwara have oba, like the jebba town, offa, oro etc. Up till now the non illorite still clamour for igbomina state, the Ilorin people are tilting to the north because they believe not control the Nigeria politics, people like saraki tend to gain from a northern leaning than a western leaning. make no mistake its more political than nothing, that's why you see saraki with Yoruba wife, Yoruba names for children and giving out his daughter to a Christian Yoruba. this tels you of a man who still love his heritage but his ambition won't let him clearly pronounce where is loyalty lies Break Nigeria today, saraki will never cede north but join kith and kin west because he stand to gain in west than north where he's termed lesser northerner because the northerner knows he's a hardcore Yoruba man regardless of his political affiliation. the kwara ruling class are people of interest. you still see people clamoring for obaship in Ilorin till now because they still see it as a Yorubaland. As far away as the okun people of Yoruba stock in kogi surrounded by two different ethnic group still hold their loyalty to Yoruba nation. even as far as Benin republic you will find an oba there. Make no mistake Ilorin was never invaded by Fulani, it was a rebelious Yoruba general that invited a Fulani to help defeated his brother which later they Fulani topped through palace politics. if he had stuck with is brothers there even be a fight not to talk of inviting a Fulani. and when the Fulani felt they need to expand to the hinterlands of Yoruba nation they were really dealt a shameful blow by the coalition of forces of the Yoruba nation at the battle of jalumi in osogbo. 1 Like |

wink2015: The RICH will continue to marry the RICH and not the POOR because of what the RICH and POOR have in common is Capital R, which stands for RESISTANCE! So if you are interested in marrying the RiCH, just work dilligently and smartly to BREAK the barrier. But whether this guarantees a happy and enduring marriage is another discussion. |
