Wow but I strongly believe ojukwu would have a strong reason for killing a galant soldier like Banjo also I have a feeling Ojukwu just want to be a president no matter how tiny the region is,he knows he can’t rule Nigeria hence calls for another nation within a nation and he ojukwu and the rest of his lineage re responsible for the death of all biafrans...Sadly he got a state buriel, what a bunch of black brained clowns

Ojukwu never truly loved the Igbo Nation, He only loved himself, all his actions were motivated by selfishness, i must be the president of a Nation at all cost...

Col. Banjo is and remains a hero and a very great man against all odds.

If he and Ifeajuna hadn't turned back when they got to Lagos, believe me, Biafra would have won the war and it would have been good for all the tribes that make up Nigeria today; everybody would have been happier and safer.

But something in me always tell me that it was Ifeajuna that must have convinced Banjo for them to retreat from Lagos they had nearly conquered, that Ifeajuna is the architect of Igbo's problem.

Ifeajuna leaked the 1966 coup details led by Major Nzeogwu to his uncle Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe which made Azikiwe to sneak out of the country to escape the coup assassination which would have convinced northern soldiers that the 1966 coup wasn't a Igbo coup agenda but a coup planned to purge Nigeria of corrupt, nepotic politicians like Belewa, Azikiwe, Saudana of Sokoto, Akintola and co.

Ifeajuna was really a sell out to Igbo.

RIP Col. Banjo, Ojukwu ought to have spared your life, he goofed in killing you, it was so unfair to you, Igbos need to map out a day to be celebrating Col. Banjo no matter the accusation cry

Ojukwu made a lot of errors during the Biafra war. As the head of the Biafran army, he was supposed to be at the forefront of the assault on Nigerian army; but instead, he was sitting back and giving orders.

Lt. Col Banjo and his fellows were just wasted because the man Ojukwu saw them as threats.

He was fingered as part of the Jan 15 coup plotters with his marxist ideology. Abokiis wanted his head on a plate, he ran to the East, the East took him as their own, protected him and fed him.

The East came under attack for protecting him and his comrades, a war was declared against the East, all men and young adults took up arms to defend the East. Banjo and Ifeajuna were commissioned to help dislodge the Abookis who had overrun yorubaland and were throwing bomb into Biafra using yorubaland (which should be neutral) as command and control centre since he himself was yoruba and will not be seen as an agressor. Ojukwu ordered that they modified the Biafran badge too in order to respect the soverignty of those whose lands they passed through enroute to lagos where bombs were being thrown into Biafra.

Awolowo the yoruba leader was playing double agent, pro-East in the day, pro-Abooki at night. His assurances lacked principles, his words were like smokes, they held no water and evaporated immediately the words came out of his mouth.

Banjo and Ifeajuna got to Ore where Awo (now a stooge of the abookis) met them, made a deal and assure them of their safety if they bring Ojukwu's head on a plate to abookis..Sacrilege!
They made a U-turn back to the East. The rest is history.

We can't continue like this

I want a country which would make me patriotic and proud

If you love your tribe you are a tribalist aka racist. Whatever you love has power over you and will form/reform you in its image. No one is debating the life and times of the man. No one one wants to know the history of this country. They all prefer the ease of gross ignorance and convenient dialogue of racism. And as a man thinks so he is and so becomes his environment and his experiences. That is why the knowledge to make even the basic, right decisions at the polls is lacking. And yet they complain about the resultant suffering their bad decidions foist on them courtesy of their ignorance.

So to all Nairaland racists and those across Nigeria, continue. More grease to your elbows. Your suffering knows no end.

They paid dearly for Victor Banjo's life they took..

Benjamin Adekunle the black scorpion went berserk on them, killing all their men, male children and anything worth killing before Obasanjo led the final push that ended the war.

Ojukwu on a norm would have been executed publicly by firing squad but the coward was afraid to die after sending over 3,000,000 of his people to their early graves.

I'm pretty sure there were some Igbo soldiers working for the North against their people then, just like we see them doing now.

They didn't just turn back... Besides they never even got close to Lagos before they met stiff resistance at Ore part of present Ondo state. Any military man will tell you that taking a nation's capital city is not an easy task. Read history of world wars and read how Russian fought to depend Moscow. They couldn't just do anything better than retreat at Ore because the resistance was great there bearing in mind also that the leaders of Yoruba nation would not want their land to become a battlefield and Ore is the entrance to Yoruba nation from the East. All these factors made the battle to take Ore is very hard task for the invading Biafra troop led by Victor and Ifeajuna

my brother its not true, Ojukwu did not just wake up and declare Biafra, something prompted that declaration.

If we had courageous and brave soldiers and men today in Benue and other regions like southeast, do you think what's happening now is not enough reason to break away from this wicked nation ruled by heartless people only concerned about the welfare of their tribe

Major Okar saw this too and tried to end it via coup during IBB era but he failed.

What led to the declaration of Biafra is the 1966 pogrom not Ojukwu's selfish interest as non-Igbos believe.

Google: "1966 pogrom" and read, you will shed tears. Igbos (comprising of both Igbos and today Niger Delta) were about to be wiped out by Hausa-Fulani, Idoma, Plateau, Biron, Boro, etc (all northern states) and the then northern born Military head of state Gowon refused to stop the massacre of Igbos in the north, Igbos were being persecuted everywhere in Nigeria then for no justifiable reason, Ojukwu being the governor of Eastern region, summoned a meeting of all stakeholders in the then eastern region.

Professors, Kings, High chiefs, scholars, artisans, market women association, student union, religious leaders and they unanimously agreed to break away from Nigeria as a way of stopping the unnecessary killing of Igbos and other tribes in the eastern region by the northerners backed by the then Gowon led military government.

So Ojukwu didn't wake up to declare Biafra out of his own interest, it was in the interest of people of the Eastern Nigeria then.

Ojukwu did not declare war on Nigeria, please read Nigerian Civil war history books written by foreign journalists so it won't be biased okay? Ojukwu declared Biafra as an independent state after Gowon failed to implement their agreement at Aburi Ghana, but this is not the primary cause of the civil war....this is just the secondary cause....what led to the disagreement and going to Aburi Accord is the 1966 Pogrom. Without the 1966 northern pogrom, there won't have been civil war in 1966/67.

If you look at the event of things happening in Nigeria now, the Fulani are kind of repeating what happened in 1966/67 that led to the civil war.

These incessant killing of unarmed civilians for no justifiable reason by Fulani herdsmen just because their brother is the president can lead to civil war if we had courageous and brave military men from the victimized regions of Benue, Taraba, and even Southeast....history is trying to repeat itself in Nigeria and nobody is trying to warn President Buhari to send a strong warning message to his Fulani brothers but he remained silent and indifferent just as Gowon did in 1966!

Nigerians think!

You don't really know the meaning of coward bro!

Igbos against all odds, without any preparation fought against all the Nigerian tribes + Britain + Russia + Egypt + other British allies for 2 and half years, and even marched close to the then Nigerian capital Lagos before they retreated which was why Col. Banjo and Ifeajuna were executed for retreating and not taking over Lagos as planned by Biafran commanders.

No other tribe in Nigeria can dare this feat.....this is why Hausa/Fulani fear Igbos a lot...they know what Igbos can do when worst comes to worst.....Fulani herdsmen are just forming James Bond by sneaking in the middle of the night when unarmed children and women are sleeping and murder them and form strong people....let them formally declare war and watch if they won't be wiped out under 1 week!

Boko Haram, Fulani Herdsmen and all other militant groups are all cowards...they target unarmed people and they fight and run the ragtag way....they can't stand full war....if they disagree let them formally declare war and see how it goes.

Let there be a former war declaration so all Igbo men and women will stop their business and know that war has come, then you will see the full wrath and power of the Igbo nation.

Nigerian soldiers killing unarmed IPOB members who are mostly vulnerable youths without any ammunition does not show brevity on the side of the Nigerian army, declare war and watch who will win and who will loose....only Igbos fought against all other Nigerian tribes in 1966 and held the war for over 2yrs, that was then o, imagine now, I pity you sha.

Don't ever call Igbos cowards in your life again if you don't know what cowards mean, look at FULANI HERDSMEN that kill only unarmed children and women at midnight when they are sleeping and they do it and run away, those are the REAL COWARDS!
