Great exposé, this is why I asked, what did Enyimba do with all the monies they made? With the patronage they enjoyed, making the club private would have been easy. Traders and locals would gladly contribute money monthly to raise funds for the club apart from ticket fees. FCB is own by the people and these people contribute money every month for the club. It's not that hard to own a club if truly we want to.

Well remember that cars weren't that expensive too around that time coupied with the fact that they used to get car gifts after winning the league. Some get lands too. They got alot of gifts winning CCL twice so some of them would have gotten alot of money via that era.

Strange to me that you said players in Enyimba earned up to #100k in 2004 because Obaseki in 2007-2008 said no player earned up to #100k before 2005.

Icon4s:

1. Time value of money.
2. What was the exchange rate then?
3. As at that 2003-2004 I know a couple of Enyimba star players earning more than that. Be sides we used to see them around the streets in Aba and when they came for training, the kind of cars they drove. The least car driven by an Enyimba player then was a Mercedes Benz V-boot. As at that time this was a car driven by "big boys". Not that this tells all the story but just that it tells you that they were at least still earning something reasonable.

Note that not all clubs win the title so not all clubs get that price money.

The truth is our clubs are not run like Businesses.
Anyasi Agu then tried all he could to raise Enyimba into a team that would not be dependent on the state government. We expanded our stadium to increase revenue from Gate takings, and also to prevent CAF from moving a game like the CAF Champions league final to a more befitting stadium like they did in 2004, moving it to the Abuja stadium. There was this sponsorship drive by the Enyimba management.

But, the Nigerian economy always has a way of wearing its ugly head. Plus Enyimba lost most of its golden generation players to clubs outside the country. How much were the transfer fees then? Peanuts compared to what we have now. There was also a change in Government and our football loving Enyimba governor, Orji Uzor Kalu was replaced by Theodore Orji, that does not value football.

Anyasi Agu has really managed to keep the club afloat as Enyimba are always playing continental football. The club has a pedigree that must be respected and maintained.

Anyasi, I still call him "my big boss" any day. We are still in communication. But he is not that Felix Anyasi Agu that we used to know then that would tell you that "Enyimba is too strong for CAF Champions league, we will start competing in Europe". The club no longer enjoys the full patronage of the state government like before through the commissioner for sports. But he and the entire board have really tried to keep Enyimba afloat even despite these challenges.

I had the opportunity of being attached to Okey Emordi (Enyimba's coach for 2003/2004) after my coaching training. But Baba God answered my call somewhere else wink

Kadiri Ikhana was also a coach I so much admired his style of play. Enyimba learnt how to play football under coach Ikhana

Is Junior Ajayi a true out and out striker? If that's the case then he's likely to displace Ighalo if he performs. I have never been a big Ighalo fan but I foresee him going to Russia as he's the only true striker in the team. But if Ajayi plays more as a SS, then he's likely to replace Ahmed Musa. No sentiments!

Replace Musa?? Musa being in Russia is a sure banker, Mr

he is 29 though so he is in his peak now.
Sure bro, it's possible for ballers to fulfill their potential or develop at a late age. Hes a late bloomer, but I don't think he's reached his peak yet, his age dosent limit him from getting better as a player, besides he's at the age defenders usually play at thier best.

Thiago: Man City don't make me think 'wow' - but Lionel Messi does

Bayern Munich playmaker Thiago Alcantara has praised Manchester City's football as "awesome" and "the best of the best," but told ESPN FC he would rather see Lionel Messi in action than Pep Guardiola's side. Thiago played alongside Messi at Barcelona for several years before joining Bayern in 2013, and he said his former teammate's ability is on another level to the feats of City, who could potentially win the Premier League title by a record margin. "City are playing amazingly, "the 26-year-old said. "But I don't think 'wow.' [Only] Messi makes me go 'wow.'"

When Mikel was on rotting on d Chelsea bench in his last season there but still got starting shirt in d SE,was it on merit or quota system??

Musa's world cup spot was in danger due to lack of game time at Leicester, but that has been fixed.. so nobody is on course to displace him.. not even Mr.injury...

Ajayi has been playing from the wings at club level in the last few years.

That is when he plays as an SS which he plays in most games.

forget it...dude has been playing consistently in Russia in the last few weeks....that enough to earn him a call up. don't forget that's Russia...the venue of the forthcoming world cup....

ajayi I believe is just there to get experience...dude will likely get few minutes combo that's all....for him to bench any of the top 6 forwards barring any injury is not possible....

anyway we are already in March ..I watched ajayi in the Olympics I saw nothing impressive in fact I will even prefer sadiq umar to him...

1:0, 85mins to go.

Game ended 1:0.

Akwa united can turn this around. Respectable scoreline away.

D question is Y?....Aw can u just discard a player just like dt, wout looking at his performance 1st and its not even clear dt d present players re miles ahead of him club wise performance? So what if he replicate d same form in GWG shirt, will u still sweep dt under d carpet?

Like with every WC, there will be last minute additions and shocks. At USA 94, Chidi Nwanu and Emenalo were the late shocks.

Expect more than 3 keepers in the final 30 man list. Rohr seems very concerned with the keeping position so i do not think the position is sealed. Ezenwa is the only sure banker. Uzoho needs to have one more good performance.Akpeyi is on shaky legs. Do not be surprised if a keeper joins the team for Serbia game.

The final camp will include some of those who are shining at club level but did not make this list. Onyekuru, Ideye, maybe even Bazee can spring a surprise.

Now, we just hope that everyone stays fit.

But then a player like Uche Agbo whom we know doesn't get to play is always on Rohr's list, maybe a Samuel Kalu or Dennis Bonnaventure should at least take his spot, lol.
