achiever12: Abeg, shift! So because he wrote 'round up', you're equating him to that illiterate English teacher. I can bet you that more than 30-50% of Nigerian graduates still confuse 'round off' and 'round up' which to me is very pardonable, but for an English teacher to make such grievous grammatical errors while teaching her students, it's both shameful and disgraceful. Moreover, the OP didn't tell you he's an English teacher. Grammatical errors from him are more tolerable than from an English teacher. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Sabiubari: I can't risk that , m in a school where religion is the backbone. Am a Christian ,and the teacher is an hijab all over teacher.. Talking to her or correcting will lead to war, cos they will assume u are asking her for a date or preaching to her |

Kennydoc:This Guy Is Mischievous. If Someone Is My Colleague, Can't I Call And Correct Them? This Will Benefit The 'English Teacher' And The Students. It Is Better Than Taking PAS To Tell The Whole World What A Colleague Has Done Wrong. It Is My Opinion On The Moral Consideration! |

Re: See What An English Teacher Wrote On The Chalkboard by achiever12: 12:19pm On Mar 08, 2018 |
lowaist101: Round up in that context is not applicable. You round off a talk, program, etc. You round up numbers and criminals. |

MissJoy29: It doesn't matter na. After all, reporting the matter here makes no right of the error committed. But calling the teacher's attention may save him/her from committing same error in future. Or what do you think
|
Re: See What An English Teacher Wrote On The Chalkboard by achiever12: 12:21pm On Mar 08, 2018 |
Kennydoc: Because it is pardonable to you doesn't make it pardonable. It is your opinion based on your limited scope. You must be limited a lot to think round off can be replaced with round up. They are distinctively different. Stop disgracing yourself |

lowaist101: Correct the colleague? Are you for real? Imagine someone approaching and correcting your grammar as an English teacher. That alone is enough to cause animosity between the lady and him for the rest of his days in ghat school. People don't like being corrected, more so when it borders on their inadequacy and lack of proficiency. Also knowing the teacher involved is a lady makes it more risky to try correcting her. Talking about exposing his colleague, he didn't reveal any personal details here – neither his nor the lady's. Nobody will ever get to know who the teacher is, so what's the big deal? 1 Like |

Bossontop: You captured it! I know a lot of people employed to teach English in public and private schools who do not have a qualification in English. The erroneous belief that anybody who speaks English can teach it is one annoying cause why situations like this will not end. |

achiever12: Just stop already! Who told you my scope is limited? Nairaland is a funny place mehn. People come online and be forming what I don't know. Can I post a shot of my IELTS result to you so that you will understand I am not a novice when it comes to English speaking and writing? Have you communicated with native English speakers before and they told you you speak well? What's your problem? Most of us used to call it 'round up' when we were young until we learnt the right thing. Many graduates still use that term today, cos they haven't learnt. But as far as the Nigerian parlance is concerned, using the term 'round up' instead of 'round off' is never a big deal. Even the sounds of the 2 are nearly alike. Guy, behave yourself o. 1 Like |

adekhingz:It's not as if it's reporting. This is a very costly mistake. It should even be reported. But the sad truth is that, there are lots of worse cases than this. The standard of education in Nigeria is just too low for comfort. I fear for this generation |

Am very sure it was one those NYSC members serving in that particular school that wrote this horrific disaster. I pity the children. Please send your children to good private Schools. In case you are in Kaduna, Obadiah Schools is a right choice for your children. |
