I don't know why Nigerians are so ignorant about the state police issue. In my opinion the police is at the service of the people. It is the people who are presently fighting to have policing come closer to them and not the Governor's forum or other such interests. Thus it will be a pity if the people wrestle law enforcement power from the autocratic centre only to hand it over to yet another autocratic state system. I don't understand what will make it imperative that the people should hand over the police to a Fayose or a Wike or a Ganduje, or an El-Rufai when thwy have tirelessly complained about the handling of the Federal police by Prwsident Buhari, Jonathan, Obasanjo, Abacha, Babangida and all before him. When they seek to change the Constitution to restructure law enforcement in Nigwria they can and should make sure it comes with all the safety systems possible and they, the people should be firmly in charge of appointing the head of their local police to do their bidding and not just that of the governor. Nuff said. Nigerians afw too ignorant and lazy to have a etter country. Citizens of other nations we envy fight tooth and nail, day in, day out to have a better society by controlling the outcomes of their power output via the polls. We on the other hand think democracy means elections only as a means to the end. Vote a liar and get el-dorado. The senate/National Assembly is not a holy ground but it remains about the only buffer against the madness going on this country since 2015. If the objectivity you were alluding to yourself is worth the energy you dissipated in typing on whatever platform you are operating from, then channel your energy to the right quarter/problem... direct your angst, if it is of considerable relevance, to the very issues/matters that threatens the existential survivability of Nigeria. If these 'democrats' continue plundering our resources and encouraging banditry I will gladly say 'welcome' Nigerian Military. 1. The number of administrators will be less and cost of governance curtailed 2. Infrastructure growth - IBB did the 3rd mainland bridge. Cross country dualization. Abacha's PTDF upgraded our hospitals and roads. Gowon and IBB built the bulk of Abuja 3. The military built the airports and formed almost all the 36 states from the region's to make govt reach the people 4. Obasanjo was able to achieve alot during his civilian presidency because he conducted his govt like a military admin by punishing/removing thieving state governors (Alams) and legislators (Salisu Buhari, Ghali, Senate president etc) Let's rethink our approach to development. If democracy in Nigeria is equal to nepotism, tribalism, religious bigotry then military it is. Nonsense. |
