Gooday everyone. I am not so knowledgeable about stocks just basic understanding, But I want to ask a question that I can use to discover some Undervalued/Overvalued assets by using Outstanding shares vs Market cap ALONE - When a stock has an outstanding shares of say 100million units and was issued at its IPO at 1naira per share. When does the market capitalization becomes too much or still low? Is it when the market cap has hit 1billion naira (10x of its outstanding shares) or when the market cap has done 100x of its outstanding shares (10billion naira market cap). I know you guys use a lot of metrics (P/e ratio and co to determine undervalue stocks and over valued stocks). But using just Outstanding shares alone, when exactly can you say so so company's market cap is now Over valued when put in comparison to its Out standing shares? Is it when it has done 100x , 10x or 200x of its outstanding share. Please gurus help reply me. Your various contribution will help for my research :-) Thanks in advance

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) on Thursday took over UNIC Insurance Plc. The take over is coming on the heels of the Commission’s drive to sanitise the sector and ensure safety of policyholders investment in the sector. Although, UNIC Insurance has been unable to pay claims to policyholders and had weak financial result, the Commission is yet to state its reasons for taking over the firm. Sources within the sector said the board of the firm has been sacked while a four man interim board to pilot the affairs of the company for the next six months has been contituted. The interim board is chaired by NAICOM’s former Director of Finance and Accounts, Chief Samuel Ordu while Theophilus Eke will serve as its interim Managing Director. Other members are Ifeyinwa Ann Momah and Nicholas Shaiyen. The interim board has an initial period of six months to do a forensic audit on the firm’s financial position as well as point out the corporate governance failures observed in the course of reviewing the financial statements of the company. It was also learnt that the Commission is prepared to intervene in more companies. Few days ago, the Commissioner for Insurance, Mohammed Kari said there is an urgent need for consolidation between the firms. He said aside the underwriters, all other insurance operators especially brokers would also need to consolidate. Kari said the resolution to consolidate was reached and agreed upon by the regulator and operators at the Insurers Retreat held recently in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He further advised operators who are seeking or may want to seek for a new operating license to acquire some of the existing weak companies. He said consolidation will enable the companies to strengthen themselves financially. He stressed that the Commission found that out of 27 companies, only 6 or 7 have paid dividend in last 3 years. https://trwstockbrokers./2018/03/09/naicom-takes-over-unic-insurance/ 1 Like |

chukzyfcbb: Market capitalisation= outstanding units X Price. So increase in the cap is due to increase in the price. You can't look at these in isolation. You need to bring other metrics together and compare. Since price is the part that changes your Capitalization, so you need to find other parameters that you can compare with , either singly or in combination with price. Also what you think is overvalued today may be undervalued in 2 - 3 years time. Hence investors don't always look at NOW. They try and project the performance they see now into the future and made a decision based on that. 2 Likes |
