sweerychick: Is any of the countries in that list upto 15million people? NO Nigeria is 150million as at 2014, so wake up Nigeria can't make the list. |

dam1l0la: You are right. What most of those countries have in common is that they are small countries with a small population. This makes distribution of wealth more evenly. |

drakeli: You're right. The purpose of posting this article on nairaland however is so that people here will realize subliminally that the problem of Nigeria is not just bad leaders. Over population is by itself another problem. Take a look at it like this. The country can improve the economy considerably but if the population keeps increasing exponentially, it will be really difficult to get the GDP to something impressive. 1 Like |

internationalman:sub standard as in how there is a difference between being rich and powerful or great. These might not be as powerful as the countries u listed cos being powerful is a combination of different things and not just being rich. Like your influence and the size if your economy but that doesn't change the fact that these countries have a higher standard of living compared to the countries u listed. |

sweerychick: Impossible. And this your assertion is one of the reasons why. You just speak out of emotion and not analytically and this lack of critical thinking is why we are where we are. The average Nigerian is too ignorant to be in that list. First and last of all, looking at the list you immediately observe that all these countries are sparsely populated so the revenue generated is not spread thin as in Nigeria but more concentrated. None of these countries is heavily industrialized so just don't go the way if work ethic or technology. They are just better managers ond keep their loins in check and their borders tight. They are all very introverted countries and territories. The US has incredible productivity so has China but they are all weighed down by huge populations so are not there. Nigeria on the other hand has every possible bad index. Highly ignorant, poorly educated, sexually indisciplined, lazy, corrupt. No amount of natural resources can overcome these debilitating challenges. Our population however is the primary reason why this country can never become rich. It is the same for a family, a community, a state and of course a nation. 2 Likes |

internationalman:There is a clear distinction between richest economy and rich nations. If you consider Keenly, all the countries mentioned have very low population. The volume of what a country produces when divided by the population gives the GDP. Consequently, a country with a high population is bound to have a low GDP. That a nation is declared "rich" does not necessarily mean every citizen there is well to do. How the wealth is distributed matters much. Well, now am thinking seriously about living in Singapore 1 Like |

kelvinklein219:180+ million people but poor human resources. Nigeria has lots of natural resources but lacks good value system that would have made this Country great. Some years back, Nigerian comedians made jest of the Ghanian cedi but today...(I reserve my comment). Look at how Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) transformed Singapore from a 'third world' country to a 'first world'. The general populace is playing the blame game while the ruling class is using us as pawns...smh. It's high time we overlooked our ethnic and religious differences and do things differently. My 1kobo thought and advice. 1 Like |

miguel4suee:if i hear? You don't sit down and dream things to happen. For example when ambode said he was going to ban the yellow buses, people were arguing on tv, radio and online about how modern and civilize it'll look. Some were saying it will increase crime.but i never hear anyone argue about which nigerian company is going to produce the new vehicles. 5000 vehicles is no small number. If we commission a nigeria company to produce them, little by little we'll get there. Benz and others started same way. |
