iphenon:Like most people advised, get the Land first and secure it appropriately. Be 101% sure of the title documentation and genuity before you commit your money. its a good thing you're thinking of a property and not a car like most of your peers would be. I dnt know about building at 24, especially if you don't have enough money to hire a professional to do this. You might want to give yourself some time to learn more about building and evolution of building design, no pressure. cos a few more years and a few more zeroes down the line you might come to discover that your taste has changed drastically. Idealer:LOL, na wa o. you people make it look like our beloved Nigeria is exceptionally different. I dont think the laws of physics apply any differently over there. As with any other part of the world, challenge will be a poor design or execution. |

You know I could ask the same exact question about some States in the US and I will be given challenges like (1) Raw material (2) cost etc because every where is unique. No one would have taken it as condescending. And no one would have classified me as "you people" Commonsense101: 3 Likes |

Folks, I have been trying to pull out the thread where pillar or no pillar is needed for a bungalow. Am referring to the one at the edges/ middle of the building not the extended one attached to the lintel and protruded for fancy designs. Do we really need it? I tried to check abdulwastex Suleja project to be sure. Oya my ogas! @Abdul @segzy @spyder @Egunbaba @Hajji 1 Like |

folmus:Pillar is good for bungalow, it adds to the stability, but it is not compulsory. But if your bungalow is a large one like that of egunmogaji, covering large area, it is advisable u use columns. The idea of using pillars for bungalows was born out due to the nature of our blocks, where u have a bag producing 70blocks. If u have considerable strong blocks, u can build your bungalow with blocks. Except u intend doing a parapet. |

ceelog:Were the columns not already casted from foundation to probably dpc or after dpc? |

Rubbiish: Thank you. No parapet, moulding my blocks @ a bag/35 for a 4 units of miniflats. |

Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by abdulwastecx(m): 10:50am On Mar 11, 2018 |
ceelog: The best practice is to cast the column (vertical structural member) separately, and then cast the lintel and head course separately( horizontal member), this will allow each of them to be properly vibrated and all voids removed. It is not a must to cast column and lintel at the same time, it is better to cast them separately than to cast them together 1 Like |

Sir, Can you please assist in costing the materials needed and labour cost for casting a column of 225 by 225mm from foundation (3) to roof level (12) = 15 courses.? Thanks. abdulwastecx: |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by abdulwastecx(m): 12:30pm On Mar 11, 2018 |
OtunbaLeXuS: 1. 2 bags of cement. some sand. some gravel. 4 number of 1 x 12 soft timber. 1 bar of main reinforcement ( Y12 bar for a bungalow), 1 bar of Y10 or Y8 for the ring. Labor cost: carpenter 3k, mason 3k, iron bender 3k |

Location of the site is Igbogbo - Ikorodu (I suppose this could affect transport/Production cost). Looking forward to getting all the suggestions and help i need. |

Rubbiish:The question was for the upper floor. Sorry I didnt mention it earlier. I see people insisting the pillar and lintel must be done together. |

folmus:6 inches i guess? Why not go for solid sir? |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by folmus: 3:56pm On Mar 11, 2018 |
Rubbiish: 9 for foundation and 6 post foundation. I think that solid is peculiar to East o. I haven't seen it in the West. 1 Like |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Rubbiish(m): 4:54pm On Mar 11, 2018 |
folmus:Combination of 9 & 6 inches is cool. But i prefer 6 inches solid to hollow for bungalows, if one is using 6inches from foundation. |

folmus: Columns are needed to bear the weight of other addition that you might decide to load on the building. Some roof types like the stone coated tiles with very high pitch and roof mounted tanks for water could be of substantial weight. 1 Like |
