Nemanja Matic Tops List Of Serbian Players Invited For Friendly Tie Against Nigeria

The coach of the senior national team of Serbia have released the list of players who will be in action when they take on Nigeria in a friendly game later this month in Barnet.

The list consists of three goalkeepers, ten defenders, nine midfielders and two forwards lead by Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic with Aleksandar Prijovic of PAOK Salonica, the other forward named in the squad.

Former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic who now plays for Russian side Zenith St. Petersburg tops the list of defenders which also has Dusan Basta of Lazio and Roma defender Aleksandar Kolarov, who was once on the books of English Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Bar Matic, Southampton midfielder Dusan Tadic was also listed alongside the likes of Sergei Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio, Adem Ljajic of Torino and on loan Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic who is with Cardiff City temporarily.

Keshi was not going to play Nosa in the DM role. He played Azeez as a deep lying player.

What I am saying is Keshi had his tactical approach to games that got him results. In the confeds, we matched the World Cup Champions Spain in play. Our finishing plus their quality tilted the results in the Spanish favor.

We did not have quality players then and Keshi relied on tactical innovations to match quality teams. Same goes with our 2-2 game with Italy. The highly criticised Ameobi was the man of the match.

When Oliseh came on board, he noticed the so called criticism was unfair when he found it hard rallying quality players for the Super Eagles.

Against Iran, Azeez played behind the striker and was not very good.

With Aluko, Igiebor, Mikel could have played a deeper role and we would have not lost much quality.

We played well against Spain but our lack of quality is why we could not score. Place Otigba instead of Egwuekwe and a better striker than Ideye and we could possibly have a more respectable result.

The 2:2 draw against Italy exposed huge flaws that we did not take on board. We were terrible in the second half.

Remove Ramon Azeez from the list. Except you believe Etebor and Ndidi are useless and don't deserve to be called up for this coming WC.
Forgiveness--Azeez should be removed

Icon4s--Nwofor and Uzoenyi should be removed

Kog45-- Kunle Odunlami should be removed if Egwueke is not on the list and i think Odunlami replaced Echiejele and also had wonderful CHAN and made CHAN all star team as best CB

Thegoodjoe--Shola Ameobi, gave good reason why Shola merited his place,Keshi like big striker and his MOTM against Italy was a class.

Michael Uchebo?

Honestly who to replace these players.

We lost the midfield battle immediately Onazi was injured. From there, we were under serious pressure and it was only a matter of time.

The game would have remained balanced if Onazi stayed. We could have had a chance to equalize if they scored us. Immediately he left, there was only one winner.

With a quality replacement, the game could have remained balanced.
Yes Onazi injury affected us but i don't shared that popular belief that we lost due to it.

Enyeama failed us when it matter most and Keshi said it.

Sir we lost to a superior team beating France would have been one of the greatest upsets at 2014 WC.

Keep in mind Ambrose was playing with a knock too. Also Keshi could not bring in Azeez because of the physical game the French relied on to weaken us.

The quality replacements for Onazi you talk about are definitely not Aluko or Nosa.

We were a team that did not have options and Keshi was able to make something out of it. He deserves credit for his achievements than picking players you feel did not deserve call-ups

I am not so optimistic of our chances of beating Poland especially as the game is in Warsaw, but we should be able to beat this Serbian team.

Precisely, we lacked quality options. Even Oliseh said Keshi should have stuck to our players playing in top clubs. The question was, could Oliseh list these players and was he sure if they would suit Keshi's tactical plans?

When Oliseh became coach he started talking of players from the moon.

This was a regular occurrence with those who repeatedly criticised Keshi's selections. Keshi got criticised on people's yardstick and not on the yardstick of the manager.

For instance, the criticism of the inclusion of Azeez and suggesting Nosa and Aluko when Azeez can play as a defensive midfielder while Aluko and Nosa do not play that role.

Some criticised the inclusion of Shola Ameobi, forgetting that Keshi liked big strikers like Bright Dike, Emenike, Ideye etc.

Keshi liked to make gambles. Lot of times came out right. Like the case of Mba and Babatunde that drew criticism but showed quality in tourneys they played.

Keshi deserves praise for impacts for instance despite the lack of quality players was able to match a star studded French side and the French resorting to injuring our players to get Keshi's team knocked out.
Keshi is quite tactical though. Remember he took a relatively unknown Togolese team to the world cup.
With Nigeria(in friendly games for the nations cup), he also drew with the star studded Catalans as well as the ltalians.

We did not choose active or inform players.

Oliseh did not know what he was saying and when he became coach, he noticed how much we lacked quality options too. Keshi was flexible and has his tactics that sometimes worked or failed. This was due to lack of options.

Gambo Muhammad might not meet what we expect but I keep saying, do you know if he met the coaches expectation with respect of meeting his tactics?

I remember the outcry for Osaze but in one of the games, Keshi highlighted that Osaze was not playing to his instructions and tactics. So it is not always about our personal preference but what the coach wants.

If Michael Babatunde had flopped, you would have written his name among poor players Keshi called but the young man excelled.

That was Keshi. He relied a lot on his tactical tweaks to cope with our lack of options.

Ogude was in great form before the WC. He was terrific for his russian club. He should have called up. Igiebor was not a bad player either.

Reuben on the other hand was getting invitations even when he was not playing football.

Ruben was not a passenger. The challenge he had was getting in tune with the game and he was not a likely replacement. Keep in mind, Azeez was the one to come in. The violent nature of the French team made that substitution unlikely. Also later in the game, Ruben improved and even made two tackles.

He was not a flashy choice and as I said, you do not know if the names you wanted would have suited the tactical plans for that game. We also lost Michael Babatunde to injury before that game. Losing Onazi and then Azeez not coming in reduced the options further.

As I said, unfair criticism.

Our goalkeeping position lacks options so Rohr is kinda stuck. It is either he stays with Akpeyi or invite young novices like Uzoho, Maduka or Ogenna.
