In my book 1HorsePower is 746watts so your 1.5HP pump consumes about 1.5 * 745watts ~1,119watts per hour so in 1 hour your pump would have consumed 1.119KwH. At first glance it would appear your 4.8KwH battery store would do this load with plenty to spare but then your discharge rate is about C4 and your battery bank is likely a C20 rated battery meaning the battery bank is being discharged far more aggressively than it was designed for and may therefore die an early death.. Remember inside the batteries it is a chemical reaction that generates DC electricity so the gentler the better. earthrealm: 5 Likes |

Please take a look at what a 1.5HP was drawing. 1.4Kw. Any explanation for the difference compared to your calculation? NiyiOmoIyunade:

SolnergyPower: Solnergypower, Yes , you may be right . Makavele once said that "theory is theory whilst practical is practical".. 1hp split AC consumes approximately 800-850w on the cyberpower display screen below ; I will come up with 1.5hp consumption soon at my free time ! Cheer's 4 Likes

The design and real life efficiency of the pump motor Sir. 1hp is 746 watts but most motors will not achieve their theoretical efficiency in real life - age of pump, worn/rusty bearings and brushes, shorts and kinks in the coil windings, blockage or flow restrictions in the water pipe e.t.c may also be playing a part. This is why I always look at the name plate specs then take a watt meter or amps measurement to measure the actual power draw for all equipment. I really hate to guess because expectations and real life often do not align. SolnergyPower: 5 Likes |

earthrealm: With @Niyis' 745w, let me round it up to 1200w draw. This is about C4(50A) draw, using peukert number of 1.1( which is about the least). Ur 200ah capacity will drop to around 135.25ah!(this will be ur new battery capacity not 200ah). So pls re-do the math and see what u have. Note: u will still be above 50% dod, but that battery will die faster(~4times) than the one discharge with C20(which is d manufacturers' recommend). 3 Likes |

YEAH, THANKS @ALL, NIYI AND OSHOMO, i knew something was off, the calculation was just too good to be true, i forgot about discharge amps. the problems of excessive battery drain may be countered by running the sumo during times of good sunlight, so the solar panels might be bringinging in more than 70% of the consumption, with the battery making up the rest..and thus still follow the c20 rule? 2 Likes |

makavele: Negative, should have stopped at struggle to start. My first inverter was a 1050va (about 840w) and yes it did struggle to start the freeze but it did start it and once started the freezer ran fine. The freezer is a 175L chest mode from LG. Freezers should generally be given some time when turned off.. (like 5 minute) before turning them back on.. this would allow the compressor to reset (you will hear a click sound when this happens) doing this reduces the start up surge. I eventually replaced the inverter with a 1.5va (1300w) inverter and the latter started with freezer with no hassle at all. But Inverters are from sukam |

earthrealm: Yes, if ur solar can give u 45a at the time of pumping, the remaining 5a will be sourced from d batteries. |

My system and yield. I am a DIY person with multiple solar installations for personal use. This is a 24v setup with Prag 2.5kva inverter, 4 Monbat 200amp batteries, 60 amp EP Solar CC and 6 solarworld 255W mono panels. Good yield for a 1.53kw setup. Location Ogbomoso. 5 Likes

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by kiekie1(m): 5:29pm On Mar 16, 2018 |
NiyiOmoIyunade: Yes it powers my tough load without stress . it has solid copper transformer and components which I can attest to ! Its transformer is as rugged as the 6kw power star you recently acquired k ... We power bigger loads(1hp submersible pump, steam iron, hair dryer, microwave, 1hp & 1.5hp split AC ) one at a time with mine and no issues for the past 8 years . The only serious maintenance I seldomly do, is just to blow off accumulated dust in system and also change any worn out cooling fan to avoid high temperature alarm . Cheer's 3 Likes |

earthrealm: Hmmn quit suspecting as I get above that figure displayed today most days when I drain my 14400wh battery bank a bit before dawn .. I have posted about my ground mounted PV array in the past. My 60a mppt has been operating at peak(1600w at 24v) for years as my batteries float daily before dusk"observing 50-70% DOD rules" ! I can't remember when last I turned on the 7.5kva gen even on rainy days 3 Likes |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by NiyiOmoIyunade(m): 8:03am On Mar 17, 2018 |
These are great results KieKie The question you seem to be so cleverly dodging is what is the exact size of your PV array that is very similar to @Durodee's? 1.5kw? or 1.6kw? or 1.8kw? or 2.4kw? that routinely generates 8.9kwh daily yield ? If you have a 1.53kw array like @Durodee then we are looking at a superlative 6times PV array size daily yield which is superior even to the best known routine results from high sun intensity and long solar days areas like Australia. I am asking you to tell us the exact size of your PV array not to throw shade but rather so we can put the yield results in perspective and any newbies can set realistic expectations. If you are daily generating 6 times your array size on a regular basis then we all need to come learn at your feet and pick up pro tips and tricks to use in our own installs kiekie1: kiekie1: 4 Likes |
