I've spent one year now on Uber/Taxify. The truth is the work has gotten more competitive ... I still gross #100,000+ every week; but I have to spend an average of 12 hours on the road everyday!
It's not a lot of drivers that can do that without crashing their car one day.

#35,000 per week rental is the reasonable rental this season, with the driver handling fueling and minor repairs. Owner should take care of the servicing of the car and major repairs.

Drivers should stay away from hp. The reason is simple, driver's cash flow can't handle major issues that are bound to come up with the car. What I advise drivers to do is to set aside for themselves, a "car purchase" fund. Open an Alat account, set it so you won't be able to draw it till about 18 months time, and start paying in #20,000 every week. Even if you are dying in the hospital, the bank will not release the money to you until the maturity date. #20,000 per week multiplied by 75 weeks is #1.5 million! Enough funds for a direct tokunbo car, grade A++ ...

My 2 Kobo though ...

Let us be honest with ourselves here. A driver will do 12hrs + regardless of 35k or 40k rental. Please don't let us deceive ourselves. What do u think will happen if the rental is 20k per week . And you beg the driver not to over work the car. Chances are the driver will over work the car. Because he will see as a great chance to make more money and even more motivated.
So please let us honest with ourselves, so In that case why shouldn't I get the maximum rental I can when am aware that the driver will still use the car or over work the car. And most drivers don't care about the car. They drive the car anyhow because it is not their car. Once the cars finally breaks down, they just dump it and move on to next. Even if you treat the driver with care and caution. Sometimes you still have to remind the drivers to do the most basic things in the car. For them to even check oil of the car in the morning, they wouldn't do it. Coz it's not there car so why would I collect 35k, when am sure that they will make more than they deliver.
I said it again and again, partners that are giving out there grade A or tokunbo cars for less than 40k. Don't come and cry on the forum that a driver as finish your car. Because I will not have pity for such people. I will not even blame the driver at all. Because you have been warned and either you refuse to listern greed or common sense will not let you rest. " A word is enough for the wise"

And if a driver is not happy, he or she should go to the bank to borrow money or ask family and friends for money. Better yet ogataxi is doing hp for corolla 05 for 2m. And their terms is that you have to use their app. Than you can find out the true meaning of slavery work..

Car owner will service/maintain the car and handle major repairs; while I'll fuel and do minor repairs. Fair enough, but it has to be grade A tokunbo!

If I'm being honest, drivers are not having it easy this period. But they need to endure, surely the market will boom again. I see myself as a driver more than a partner even tho I have more than three cars on the platform because I drive full time as well.

Drivers are probably agitating because they are no longer making more than the partners but they still make good money, more than enough to survive with your family. If you can manage to make 25k for yourself weekly, thats four times the country's minimum wage. Drivers should please calm down, the business will definitely pick up again. Heck, its picking up already.

I also foresee that most of the current crop of drivers(graduates) will eventually lose the job to people that appreciate the average 25k/week more than them.

Mr Dru, no fear. Business is still very good. grin

One of the major reason we live below the average line Is cos of our believe, people spend most of their time praying for financial breakthrough without knowing what to do to be rich and just want to be rich anyhow which doesn’t work that way. My prayers are always ideas and connections to the right people. I was driving by a church on a Monday afternoon and if you see the way people were praying even the American rider was like this is f*** and to me it’s madness. Let’s change our thinking and prayer patterns. God Bless! Again, always be smart and be quick to read riders. Trust me billionaires are going to ride with you and u won’t know, millionaires will ride with you and they won’t say, it’s your personal attitude that will show you who they really are. Have met so many big people while driving UBER, it’s not just driving to me cos it’s more than that ( if you know you know) Treat people nicely no matter what and the narrative will change sooner than later. Thank God so far!

We build support that makes the driver know we care about their welfare and also that of the vehicle. We are not just about ur weekly payment, but put measures to make sure all is going smooth.

We are the partner's partner , the driver's Driver. We are different

The narrative keeps changing till we get a near perfect system

Thanks bro.. Well I just like to do my findings... a lot of people on nairaland are complaining, maybe handful so before I take any serious decision I like to see what's on ground. For now my drivers are paying 40k weekly. One car is down coz driver could not do 40k weekly . That is why always tell people on the forum to mingle with people that are either doing better than them or they should do their own research before they reach any conclusion.
And the best way to do research is talk to people that are on ground. Not just one or two and from their you can make better decision based on your reliable sources. I preach that on nairaland all the time . So I have to practice what I preach. So thanks sha ...

You said it all sir ... Grade A tokunbo car! Personally, I will do #40,000 per week rental for a Toyota corolla with mileage less than 70,000 miles. Car owner will service/maintain the car and handle major repairs; while I'll fuel and do minor repairs. Fair enough, but it has to be grade A tokunbo!

For a Toyota Corolla (2003-2006) you are barely breaking in the engine @ 70,000 miles or 112,000 kilometres if the vehicle was regularly serviced. I have read about many going well over 200,000 miles or 320,000 kilometres easy.

wheel bearings of a corrola 2003-05 wear out between 160-180,000 miles, it's not always about the engine. I could go on with examples, but lower mileage is always an extra extra added advantage

Almost Impossible, most in Nigeria with such mileage, Odometer has been rolled back

(3) Vehicle History: Through our online platform (IOS/ANDROID APPS) , you can view where your car had been between DAY X and DAY Y. A plot is shown on a map showing your car’s movement over this period of time.

(4) Remotely Stop Your Car: With our security GPS tracker, you are able to stop your car from ANY PHONE with an sms command. This function can also be carried out through our online platforms.

Story 1
During one of our installs, the client shared with us how Mr Ayo (not his real name) borrowed his brothers car, and waylaid in the night somewhere in Lagos. Unknown to the thieves, the car had a tracker in it. That same night they tracked the vehicle to a military baracks (apparenntly the thieves had accomplices with military connections). They went with the police and they were able to recover the car (THE DEMOBILIZE FUNCTION OF THE TRACKER WAS USED TO ENSURE THE CAR DID NOT MOVE UNTIL THEY GOT TO THAT LOCATION)...

Story 2
Mr Bayo was bout entering his car in the night somewhere in Lagos when he was attacked. He immediately used his phone to demobilize the car some minutes after they had zoomed away with the car. The thieves ran away when they discovered the car wasn't strating again. The car was tracked to Ajah. Apparently the thieves ran away in fear with the keys of the car grin

The Engine knock would have still happen irrespective of Rental valve but in this case he would have gotten #40000 x 4 weeks x 6months = #960,000 as against #35,000 x 4 weeks x 6 months = #840,000 or less.
Engine knocking is a function of engine health and maintenance not rental value.
