Re: Ubuntu Linux by Fulaman198(m): 3:31am On Mar 14, 2018
I am also using Ubuntu 17.10 but I have used Mint before (which is good) but Mint is definitely more difficult to install on a system with Fast/Secure Boot (UEFI-based systems) than Ubuntu 17.10 which comes with native support on secure boot.

Personally for anyone who is a developer, software engineer or Computer Scientist once you use a GNU-based Linux system, it is very hard to go back to Windows.

MacOS is ok, being a BSD-Derived form of UNIX, but I just like GNU-Linux (debian/Ubuntu/Mint) flavour the most.

Well, that's if you are not really using your windows well... if not, would advise to still keep your windows. I partitioned mine, so am enjoying both windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux

people stick to Windows cause its easy to learn and doesn't require long term support

It is also the mainstream. For me as a programmer/Comp Scientist, Linux is the only way to go. I will give MacOS a close second, but their hardware and OS are only limited to Apple (unless you get a Hackintosh).

Aha, many thanks for the links. At first, I struggled to rationalize the $1/month offer, only to see the small print that says the price in fact jumps to the minimum $11/mth after those initial three months at $1/month. Thanks again.

My own search continues for an all-in and reliable like $2/mth, ≥ 99% uptime VPS package on which I can host my own OpenVPN-based server, solely for personal use. The closest to that I have experience with, is offered by Digital Ocean, at $5/month minimum.

to convert gpd to mbr you can use gdisk

I think this might be helpful to Rookies like me venturing into the magnificent yet complex world of Linux.
There is a course on edx.org by The Linux Foundation that teaches the basics of Linux.
If you are like me who doesn't have anybody to put you through on how to setup and use Linux in your field of specialty, I'd strongly advice you take the course.
N.B. The course is free to audit except you want a certificate which comes at a price in dollars.
I would have placed the link but I really don't know how to, just search the website using Linux as keyword.
Peace!
