Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by PDPGuy: 10:54pm On Mar 15, 2018 |
tbaba1234: I’ll only replace Mikel with Joel Obi, in the last group game, if the team has already secured qualification to the round of 16. And if the team is chasing a goal, I would bring in Ighalo, and take off Ndidi, switching to a 3-4-3. |

PDPGuy:One option is to swap Mikel and Etebo in order to help with build up play or Ogu/Joel Obi (if he makes the team) for Etebo. |

First of all, thumbs up to everyone keeping this wonderful thread alive. I think there is a misconception and I am also part of it. The term World Class should be reserved for those who have done remarkable things in the game of football and for a long time. With this, we can see the wonderkid Wilfred Ndidi is not yet World Class. The right term is a high quality talent with the potential of becoming World Class. With this, Nemanja Matic is not World Class. Mbappe is not World Class but like Ndidi, has the potential to become World Class. So he goes into the bracket of High Quality talent. Casemiro will take the Top Quality bracket while Neymar, Messi, CR7 and Aguero will take the term World Class. Potential - Iheanacho, Gabriel Jesus, Ousmane Dembele High quality - Ndidi, Matic (with time running out might not be tagged top quality, let alone World Class), Mbappe, Lukaku Top quality - Pogba, Casemiro, Harry Kane, Suarez World Class - Messi, CR7, Aguero |

edi287: Taking Mikel behind will cut off supply to the striking players. It is better he plays behind the strike force. |

andrew444: No mind those myopic English fan boys. Once you don't cut it in England you don't know how to play football. But they will never see that what they parade as stars are waste product!. See how they almost finished Musa's career, but thank God for Rohr, now the guy is back inform and playing in the Europa league! 2 Likes |

England has tagged behind due to their illusion of believing that huff, puff, Kick and follow football was their identity. However, with the step up in promoting good technical football in the EPL, with the likes of Guardiola, Klopp, Conte and others, the English team will get better. The challenge they have is sticking to managers that play the old English brand of football while lots of their top players play under possessive managers. Their academies are also promoting good football and with time, England will produce better quality players. 1 Like 1 Share |

tbaba1234: Honestly, at least there are no Olympic qualifiers this year. Why not use that budget on an U21 team. (The current Flying Eagles are 19 years or less). The U21 team would be for players who are not eligible for the next U20 WC but are not yet in the Super Eagles. Same team can easily be progressed into the 2020 Olympics team. We have so many talented youngsters every where, both home and foreign born, and if we don't start going for them we will lose many of them. Nothing should stop the NFF from organizing a friendly, during the FIFA window, for these players. The Super Eagles is in an evolving stage and so we need a continuous injection of new blood into the team. We need a reservoir, not just a pool, of young players to chose from so as to sustain the development of the team. There should be little or no room for experimenting with an untested player in the Super Eagles. The U21 team would serve as a platform to test those young players before we ascertain they are ready for senior team action. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

Yessssss. The much maligned Musa has shake to
the net in the Europa league against a backwater
league team named Lyon. This goal definitely rules
him out of the wc squad, had my doubts before but
this boy is getting useless by the day.
Unacceptable.

As for Iheanacho, Gabby Jesus and Mbappe discussion. Iheanacho proved under Pellegrini that he has the potential to do a lot of great things in the game. Iheanacho deserves a better run of games with what he did. I guess this is a true explanation of the Nigerian factor. Also, the demands of the game today favor players like Mbappe and Gabriel Jesus. However, when it concerns finishing, Nacho trumps them. Nacho needs more game time to show how good he is before deciding who is better. |
